Just wanted to ask, seeing as how I've heard they're set in the same universe.

I think there are two probable options. The first one is that they'll do some brief references to the original, but nothing of too much importance, but you wouldn't probably enjoy those bits as much as if you had watched the original. The second case is that they're both fully related, in which case you'll either spoil yourself or simply don't understand this one.

I mean, they obviously are aiming for the fans of the original, so in any case, I think you should watch the first one. It's a really good anime on its own right either way :)

I don't think you need to watch SSSS.Gridman but I don't get why you wanna watch SSSS.Dynazenon if you didn't watch SSSS.Gridman

Well first I don't watched the gridman maybe I even dropped after one or two episodes. But I don't had anything left to watch so started it aigan but only I only remembered it because is a studio Trigger anime. And not because I don't like the mecha genre (for me almost anything can be if the story entertain me.) but nowdays the mech it's not that popular like back, so there is less anime.
But the op won't lose anything if he watches it because if both anime got ssss "universe"
Than there is a chance we got similar story (I don't remember anything worthy to remember about the world itself (but there was some gridman shinengan what I already forgot ))
But hey a trigger anime is a trigger anime.
Sorry for the rant.

Since this is a work by Trigger maybe something like how Promare references Guren Lagaan's story.

Based on replies in this thread, I’m assuming it’s something similar to that of how Steins;Gate and Chaos;Head and Robotics;Notes are part of the same universe/development teams but not the same story.

I can't find any information about SSSS.Dynazenon, so I'm not sure, but personally i recommend watching SSSS.Gridman, it's a really great show, Triggers love letter to Tokusatsu. This show is probably going to be something like that as well, so just watch Gridman and if it isn't your thing, Dynazenon probably won't be for you as well.

It's marketed as "Gridman Universe" in its own logo:

People should ask why would anyone want to watch this without SSSS.GRIDMAN instead of "do I need to watch SSSS.GRIDMAN first?".

There have been minor connections so far, but you all won't know how the shows are definitely connected until this one has finished airing (and at that point, any such connection would be spoiler worthy), so watch the first season.

Novels I have read/am reading pending approval: since November 10 2022

Personally, I would recommend watching Gridman first. Sure, it's just a spinoff but I'm expecting Gridman to be referenced near the end.

You clearly don't, much like you don't need to have any knowledge of the original Gridman to enjoy SSSS.Gridman in the first place. I certainly didn't, and any prior knowledge only served to enhance the experience, naturally. The story is self-contained anyways.

As some people mentioned here, Gridman might be refereced, maybe, who knows. But the way the first episode is structured, it's not expecting you to have any prior knowledge of the universe.

But of course, Gridman is highly recommendable, so since it's finished airing, you can check if you enjoy it before deciding if you wanna continue Dynazenon or not :)

While you don't need to have seen SSSS.Gridman yet, it set up a lot for this world. Since these two series are based on Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad (SSSS) and the original Gridman series, they are obviously connected. In SSSS.Gridman we were introduced to Zenon (God Zenon in the original Gridman) and Gridman (who was known as Servo in the American TV show). The absence of Drago (originally known as Dyna Dragon) was a big problem I had with SSSS.Gridman, but now it makes sense as they gave it it's own show.

It should be expected that the next season will include the cast of both shows, bringing all three of the fighters together and completing Team Samurai.

I don't think so, but I think you'll enjoy Dynazenon more if you do. There were LOTS of Gridman references in the first ep, from the direction to the character designs to even little details like the sandwich.

I don't even get if they're supposed to be the same IP or not. I mean, SSSS Gridman already came from the "Gridman" world, that of a sentai tv series. But this one doesn't bring the "Gridman" in the title... So, it's confusing.
It's as if SSSS Gridman was a Gridman spin off, and SSSS Dynazenon is a SSSS Gridman spin off. Wtf.

It is the same logic as why people ask "do i need to watch Kengen Ashura before watching Dumbbell Nan Kilo Moteru"

So by now, you should get the hang of it.

I haven't watched Gridman but I have started with Dyna and I love it.

Edit - After the ending of episode 6, guess I'll put it on-hold and watch Gridman first.

The "Gridman Universe" byline is presented so prominantly in the OP sequence it makes me worried we're gonna get to the point where things will straight up stop making sense if you haven't seen Gridman.

TBH I'm surprised people would skip out on SSSS.Gridman before seeing this - because even if they aren't directly connected, a lot of what I'm enjoying about SSSS.Dynazenon is how they're playing with the expectations set from the original series. It's different but similar in all of the best ways possible, at least so far

When two series is in the same verse it's always better to watch the previous instalments first.

Watch the original Tokusatsu too, it's on Tsuburaya's youtube channel subbed every week.

EDIT: As of episode 6, SSSS.GRIDMAN is absolutely a requirement to watch SSSS.DYNAZENON.

So far, no. But if you're interested in this, you'll probably enjoy Gridman too, and that one's already finished airing. So why not watch it?

There was a clear reference to Gridman at the end of episode 6 of Dynazenon. It might secretly be a sequel.

I dunno, but considering what happened at the end of episode 6, this may be a parallel sequel of sorts, with both shows happening in-universe, but in different worlds/timelines.
We'll find out soon, I guess.

Given Ep 6-7's events, yes Gridman should be watched beforehand since 2 major support characters from there show up here (albeit physically aged up).

Episode 6-7 had characters from Gridman, but it's done in such a way you don't really need to know for sure who they are or what they did in Gridman.

But going forward? Honestly, who knows. So far I would say "No" but it's still kinda unclear how much this show links in with Gridman.

Yes I think people should watch Gridman first.
So that you can get as much from Dynazenon, as it offers you.
