GIANT KILLING #6... Coming soon.

Wish they'd show more of the actual game than people's reaction to what's going on. Murakoshi is a beast.

This show is fucking magical. That's really all I can say. It starts slow, builds to an awesome climax, and then drops us off with an otherworldly buzz. It must continue this way. And poor Tsubaki. Also, what's his name has balls to just walk around.

As a football fan, I must say I miss seeing the actual game in this anime. The football scenes are the less interesting ones since they're unrealistic and barely even animated and that's a shame. The rest of the episode was very good and interesting though.

Tsubaki is a major work in progress. Short of chopping a limb off, they couldn't have thrown him more difficult obstacles to overcome. With his talent, the payoff will be huge, but there looks to be a good deal of suffering before we get there. Gotta give his teammates credit for trying to keep his spirits up.

Gino is an interesting fella. There's much to dislike about his attitude, but he's got incredible instincts.

Murakoshi is a monster. Even at his advanced age, it's scary to think that he has yet to peak. Maybe he's starting to see that too now. Loved his post game chat with Tatsumi, much more than the game winning drive and score which lacked the impact I expected.

Well, Murakoshi is back to being the captain. I knew that was coming eventually, but I thought maybe they'd allow a few more games without him as captain.

Gino is amusing a bit. I dunno why I thought it was funny when he was just kinda lazing about.

Tsubaki will be good once he matures completely. Too bad he thinks the mistakes are his fault. He tries hard though.

Indeed the guy has potential but still has to mature his abilities and that crappy attitude of his.... Well well... what a wonderful episode my dears!!! I really loved the outcome... It still has the magic the manga and it really looks like the manga... Dude that Goal of Murakoshi pretty much show us that he's a beast... and just as I said at GK Chapter 21 RAWWWWWWWWWRRRR Mr. ETU!!!! Gosh he's the best of the best.... I do agree that he has to think for his well being as well, but being the soul, the color of the team really fits him nicely!!!

So then Mura has the captaincy back, Tsubaki has to deal with his problems, Tatsumi has to deal with Gino's laziness and they have to build the perfect team to pull out a Giant Killing every chapter... Wonder what will happen from now on... And who was that funny old man... looks like PR lady grandpa hahaha... So I'm as blind as you people from now on!

Only thing I don't like about this anime is, it only airs for 13 episodes. : (

For an anime as good as this, this might go up to 26 or 50. Shame really.

I was thinking the same thing. Tatsumi keeps telling him to develop as a player and I feel like he is in his 30s (or late 20s) so find it hard he hasn't reached his peak yet. Always kept thinking that he was on the downslope of his career while Tsubaki works his way up to become the future "Mr. ETU."

Just wish they showed more game action and an overhead view of the pitch than a closeup of each player. Hard to get an idea of player positions during attacks and when passes are made.

The animation in this and The House of Five Leaves this season are so refreshing for me, it's nice to see some very noticeable unique styles.

Man, Tsubaki's attitude is starting to get on my nerves, not that he's a bad character, he definitely fills that much needed rookie role associated with most sports (if not all) anime, but it bugs me how he makes everything seem like the end of the world. I know that's just his personality so it doesn't really matter to me in the long run I guess.
It's like when an author writes a book and you hate some of the characters, not because they aren't realistic or have no character development, but when they seem real and are totally believable. They piss you off because of how human they act and you hate them just like you would hate any real person. Half the time the author ends up making you care for the character. A hate to love, love to hate sort of thing. That's how he is for me right now. Actually I feel this way a about a lot of manga/anime characters, I believe it is a sign of talented story telling

And damn, I want to see why Tatsumi left. I bet they won't show that for a bit though.

Another good episode. Eventough they conceded because of Tsubaki's blunder. It's not completely his fault. I'm glad that the goalkeeper didn't blame him.

Yeah i miss that too, focusing on psychology and the players thoughts is good for keeping interest but when they put the element of strategy and since you have the manager as basically the main guy you kind of want to see that strategy unfold in the cord. I guess it's too hard to animate the actual working of a game.

Well the reason Murakoshi never developed to his full game potential is because he had to take the role of the captain and coach when the team was in troubles and in the end he ended trying to keep the team together and not focusing on his own abilities as a player.
When Tatsumi left the team Murakoshi was a rising star with attacking abilities and strong shooting as it seemed in his menu, but after the team collapsed they were always on the defending and playing hard to keep it together with him handling them and the resold of never having the freedom to just play his game. The kind of game he could play as a young gun was destroyed because he had other responsibilities. Now that they have a guy on the bench that knows what his doing he only has to do what his told and Tatsumi wants to give him the freedom to go for it like he was free to do in the past. So now he can unlock his potential as a player and stop being a coach.

A lot of male athletes in team sports tend to peak at 30-35, that's when experience starts to really pay off. They may not run as fast as the youngsters but they make up for it with better technique and superior understanding of the game. This, of course, is assuming they can escape injuries :|

Now I've probably jinxed it and we'll see Murakoshi get injured.

which one is unrealistic ?
well I think field scene on eps 4 is horrible, but on this eps the field play is much much much better. The scene where Mochida, dribbling past tsubaki amaze me.

Mr. ETU was a beast there. That made the whole episode. As for Tsubaki i don't understand how he ran into the goalie...

While the animation is pretty unusual and seizure inducing, the content itself doesn't fail to deliver.

There is only so much football that can be showed without seeming boring and repetitive in this form.

Another good thing is it hasn't got unrealistic yet, there is nothing worse than if they suddenly turned to superstars. It will be interesting to see what happens when the league starts although the pacing seems kind of slow if it is going to cover a season.

I agree with you totally here. Certain types of anime, and particularly sports ones when done well, can be incredibly emotive, and thankfully this is one of them. They managed to capture a real life moment of passion, and credit to them. Sport can be drama of the highest order, and this manages to almost top that!

The buzz from when Murakoshi scored was the payoff, and I even got some chills when I saw Tatsumi's plans drawing together, how he had tested and cajoled the best out of Murakoshi, until it all clicked ... and then ... GOAL! Hehe, best not get too carried away but I guess the buzz hasn't worn off yet.

Quite amusing that an animated, friendly football match between two J-League teams is currently more exciting than the group stage matches of the World Cup. Lets hope as the World Cup progresses and the matches get tighter and more involving, so this anime manages to build up the tension throughout the season until a spectacular dramatic ending.

5/5 - sports drama (if not sports realism) at its best!

So the "slow lump of meat" is captain now. He might not be as fast as Tsubaki, but he helps to unify the team and he is more emotionally stable than him. The current Gino was obviously not going to last long because he has practically no motivation.

this and this. I'm finding it hard to get engaged in the game. :X I want to see strategies! More teamwork! More assists!

I kind of understand what roles the characters play now. Gino is the ace, Tsubaki is Gino's successor and assist, and Mr ETU is the captain//playmaker kind of guy.

Alright match, though it wasn't that much of a competition since the opponents got their points through cheating their way through. :/

I'm starting to really like this series. I mean yeah it's slow sometimes, and it would be nice to see more in-game action. But it's only the fifth episode and already I find myself cheering hard for ETU.
The art style is starting to grow on me too. Not the noses, though. Still not the noses.

Not because of Murakoshi, the game ended in a draw thanks to Tatsumi. I really hate the way Murakoshi threatens his coach. :/ I wish they could focus on animating the action scenes of the matches much more than the characters' reactions, that's my only problem with this show.

Poor Tsubaki, despite the tie he lost full confidence in that second Tokyo goal. I wonder if Midorikawa would have saved the ball had he not bumped into Tsubaki.

Murakoshi omg what a goal. He kicked that ball like there was not tomorrow. I wouldn't want to be in the path of the ball, probably as fast as those fast balls in Major League Baseball.

Football is one of the hardest sport to animate as an anime unless you're going completely off realism with the superpowers and stuff. The game isnt animated enough but they still managed to make it epic by giving these character developments and build ups leading to passionate moments. I got goosebumps when Murokashi scored. Anyway its just a pre season game so they didnt waste their time on it. This has been great so far. Football fan approves.
