Hmm, the plan to take cities is a risky but sound strategy.

It's kinda hard to imagine how everything would play out in real time but every move has consequences. This episode still had talks about strategies and tactics involving the castle. Everything had to be considered including movement and using natural environments.

The strategic battle of wits between Wang Jian and Li Mu takes me back to watching Death Note for the first time. It's very thrilling and knowing that neither side is evil or insane makes the drama all the more intense.

I thought it was pretty obvious why Wang Jian was letting the civilians flee, but perhaps back in those days the idea of starving out your enemy wasn't as well known. The king of Zhao is really a scumbag, so I hope he gets killed soon.

See when they drove out the citizens of the first castle I already thought of the reason why - so that they'd go to Ye to seek food and shelter there while Wang Jian snuck a bunch of Qin soldiers among them to ultimately open the gates of Ye from inside while the siege was going on. But that theory was before it was revealed that there's another 8 more of this castle and they did the same thing with them. So while it was revealed that the strategy was to actually use the displaced refugees to starve out Ye, I am still 1000% sure Wang Jian snuck soldiers inside that castle. But goddamn another banger episode. It's almost worth it to wait another week to see something of this quality again.

I'm not even 1 minute into the episode and IT'S HAYAMI FUCKIN SHOW!

Edit: Alright, I'm back here after watching the whole episode.

Is it me or the pace is a bit fast? Like they are trying to wrap up the battle before the season ends?

Really loving the strategic back and forth going on between Ousen and Riboku. Its episodes like these which make the battles that come later even more spicy and worth it.
Another great episode.

@PushpakTrimale

At this pace ,each episode cover 4 chapters,
It means the anime should reach 37~ episodes to cover this arc.

I don't if it will be like first 2 seasons or they gonna split it to cores

The idea of sleeper agents among the refugees is quite a good one. I didn’t even think of that however, they said that they won’t let people in who are not on the list so unless they kill somebody and took their identity, I doubt he would put sleeper agents in there, but that would be a good plan, though I don’t know why he didn’t think of that.

Oh no, this is gonna be a long battle trust the taking of zhao will probably come one episode before the end of the season

@PushpakTrimale We don't know for sure what it will be, but it's pretty easy to calculate that it should be a 3-cour (so 36-39 eps or so) considering the length of the arc it's covering and their usual pacing

It's possible they could make a cut somewhere in the middle and make a split cour out of it too but that really wouldn't be as good of a viewer experience so I really hope that's not the case

Because one episode covers four chapters so you could get 37 episodes out of the source material but I don’t think they’ll do a second cour so they have to cut corners somewhere

@zooker That's what I felt like, too. Because we shouldn't have seen Kai explaining the locusts plan in this episode. That came on too quick.

Edit: I went back and checked they are in the same episode, hmm. I am so confused, maybe it's because I read the manga before and it has a really good pace.

I went back and checked again, how many chapters did last episode cover and they are

#514, #515, #516, #517.

I hope they don't omit every possible scene to keep the pace. Because I'm still annoyed that they omitted one of my favorite moments.

This is chapter 344 of the manga, I don't remember which episode was it on anime, but if you are up to date, you're okay.

They omitted the first part of this page.

This episode has been such a fascinating chess match between Ou Sen and Ri Boku and their decision-making to try and predict the others' moves and outdo them somehow, whether it is a clever idea to make Gyou the stage for a battle of provisions by forcing tons of refugees to stay at Gyou for safety with Qin taking those mid-size castles as well as preparing for battle in different areas anticipating how their opposing key generals would be located in the respective areas they are targeting in Atsuyo. I always found Ou Sen to be a compelling character in how he approaches strategies and ideas when it comes to war and how different and somewhat nuanced he feels compared to more straightforward generals seen throughout the series in Qin's side (even Kan Ki despite being morally twisted). He gives off such energy of unpredictability and it makes the struggle here with Zhao against Qin a more fascinating watch for this arc. It is one that should go around 30+ episodes more at the pace they are going at so time is there to build this up. Even like the internal struggles at Zhao itself with how detestable the King really is and basically not giving a shit about any of its people to protect the country besides his own self-interests as long as he is alive and kicking, even being unwilling to give any additional army members or resources to support Ri Boku, but still more than willing to promise him punishment for failure regardless. Quite the role model of a king to say the least, which makes the appearance of the more just and morally-upright Crown Prince to be a fascinating focus to Zhao's political dynamics.

@anime-prime It took me a few seconds, then it hit me when he said he couldn't send any provisions. It's not even a new tactic. A horde of refugees causes all kinds of problems.
