Another episode with festival stuff but didn't expect gold fishing to be part of its main event.

Poor Ranma getting himself into trouble again with himself. This guy just can't a break not matter what this season lmao. We did at least get somewhat of a flashy fight this episode though.

Ranma just can’t catch a break lol, soon as he thought he had got a way back to being a boy, there’s shampoo’s grandma to turn him back into a girl. Good on him for overcoming Mousee, but seeing the entire school happy celebrating him getting naked had me dying lmao.

Akane not trusting Shampoo about the Phoenix pill makes sense since it was Shampoo fault all this happened anyway, but it looks like she was actually right. Can Ranma actually conquer the open air roasting challenge? Hopefully it’s easier than the Piranhas lmao.

Ranma and Shampoo’s little matching outfits today were sooo cute and Akane in Yukata was adorable as well! All my babies looked great today. As usual, funny as hell and nonstop absurdities. There’s just nothing like Ranma on Saturday afternoons

I think one thing that’s important from this episode is that shampoo only helps Ranma with the Phoenix pill info because she only likes him as a boy. She doesn’t actually care about him on a deeper level. She sees him as a prize rather than a person.

There's something refreshing about getting to see Ranma in his girl counterpart rather than his usual boy one, don't know what it is.

Anyways, really nice boards here in this episode.

I know this is a ref. to Journey to the West, and not the Dragon Ball franchise, but all I could think after this little bit was: “Well, I guess we can say that Ranma could beat Goku in a fight! 😏”

Man, the episodes fly by, it's a lot of fun and non stop energy. Mousse has been defeated, I thought he would pose a bit more of a challenge but not for Ranma. Grandma is quite the troll, but the funny thing she is not even the worse old troll Ranma will have to face.

And the first big technique, Kachū Tenshin Amaguriken, is here. Will be featured in many episodes in the future. It seems next episode is a beach episode, will Ranma finally be healed? Loving the remake so far!

So fricking hilarious. I can't stop laughing while watching Ranma suffering from all these things. His fight with Mousse was amazing, but he needed his boy form to beat Mousse. But then he went back to female Ranma, who's trying her best to get herself back to her boy self.

Everyone is funny in this show. LOL. I loved how Ranma didn't want to go and enjoy the festival, but was having the most fun out of all. LMAO. And, schoolboys stopping Akane and others from turning Ranma back into a boy. They were drooling over Female Ranma. But, can you blame them? LOL. I love it so much. Really strong direction and storyboard this time around as well.

The gimmick of this episode is the manga/comic book style. I think other episodes did it too, but not quite like this. I like it. I want Mappa to do more unique stuff like this in this anime. It's cool and makes the anime feel fresher compared to others.

Lmao Ranko in disguise with black hair almost looked like manga Ranko where she has black hair. The red/pink hair is an anime-original addition. I wonder Mappa will do any episode where she has black hair by default. That'd be so cool even if it probably won't make any sense.

So, it seems like everyone at the school finally found out Ranma can shift from boy and girl. Well, everyone EXCEPT Kuno. But they don't care cause they just wanna see a chick nude lol.

The second half of this episode was pretty entertaining too. Ranma was able to wear a yukata which for some reason was changed in the OG. Cool. He was able to master the chest nut technique but Shampoo's granny switched out the pill. That's so scummy. At least now we know who Shampoo takes after.

Did I just forget the reveal in S1 or does everyone in the school just know he transforms now for some reason? Or are the comments about him not turning back meant as they think it's still a magic trick he does?

Good wifey Shampoo, "I have some fantastic news for you. I found a revolutionary new pill you can take to cure Full Body Cat's Tongue. Would these eyes lie to you? It's the champion of heat resistance. My great grandma has it. For my one true love... Ranma in his male form. Love Grandma push Ranma for marriage,
"Are you finally ready to take Shampoo's hand in marriage?" Shampoo," She's no match for Great Grandma."

Grandma teach Ranma lesson "You've gotta hold it firmly, kid. Better take 'em out quick. You don't wanna spill hot ramen on yourself." Grandma chestnuts trick testing Ranma, "I have in my hands a bag of chestnut. Think you can do that too? Master that technique, and snatching the Phoenix Pill away from me will be child's play."

More cute playful Shampoo, "Welcome everyone! This haunted house is operated by the Ramen Restaurant Union. Huh? Ni Hao." Grandma Challege Ramna, "If you want the Phoenix Pill then all you have to do is cross the water. Your hands are too slow. Wow, look at that speed. Not fast enough.
Ramen out smart Granny, "Not fast enough, huh? Then what am I holding?" Upset Granny, "Hey, when did you manage to...

Mousse is also one of the character that has the same voice actor as 1989 version. This reboot is quite a miracle to get the majority of the cast from the 1989 version. I haven't watch the old version yet I still think it's a nostalgia.

Looks like he'll be stuck as a girl for a while. Atleast he mastered a new technique. Akane looked great in sailor fuku, long skirt at that, lovely. Shampoo adorable as always. Also guy really brought out piranhas to stop Ranma.

Ranma did his best to fake his woman form.
The guys were so blessed to see bunny girl Ranma and they would have been happier if Akane didn't cover Ranma with the clothes lol
Ranma mastering a fine technique only to get fooled in the end. Poor dude.

I looked it up and apparently in the old anime there's a big reveal much later on, and in the manga it's kind of just slowly found out instead, so I guess the remake is doing like you said? Seems like kind of a letdown after they make a point to try so hard not to be found out.

This is even worse for Ranma because he could get back to his male body just for the fight and now he's stuck in the female one even though he got the phoenix power but was replaced by a candy xD

@WestOnAndrewAve it's like "it is sconvenient if everyone know about it, but if it happens... whatever". The true point in this story is that he had to face Mousse as a man for their promise.
In the Old anime they discover it later so they had to manage in a different way several stories

Tricking Mousse into thinking Ranma was wearing a custome was quite clever. Still, it seems like the crowd was chanting for his female version to be stripped rather than him winning at all. Also, the grandma is still quite abusive and while Ranma was able to master that technique that doesn't make her any more endearing at all.

It’s good to see character development in action from S1. Was still expecting Shampoo act aggressive to female Ramna, but her calm demeanour is nice change of pace.

Increased Shampoo screentime -> Increased entertainment. The VA (Sakuma, Rei) is absolutely killing it.

Poor Ranma, even after putting in all that effort to learn Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire, the cat's tongue pressure point still hasn't been overcome.

At least Dr Tofu showed up with a temporary fix so he could beat Mousse. We love it when Dr Tofu makes an appearance.

I remember the Mousse fight being a bit better in the OG but this was still a really good time. Mousse showed off the extent of his hidden weapons, like he can still use them while being shirtless, it makes you wonder where those weapons are coming from lol, and Ranma managed to make his perma-girl situation work with the disguise paired with the “girl transformation” thing, Tofu Sensei ended up saving the day with his temporary fix, but it’s just that, temporary lol, so girl Ranma is permanent for a bit longer, but at least Mousse has been dealt with for now.

And all of this Cologne stuff with the “chestnuts roasting on an open fire” technique actually came before the Mousse introduction in the OG, so it’s interesting seeing it in a different order here, it worked just as well so it’s not a bad change. Unfortunately for Ranma, learning the technique did not get him back to being a guy yet, but hey he at least got a cool move out of this, the summer festival bit was fun too.

@TheColonel76 So, the "OG" is actually the manga, and this was pretty much a panel-by-panel adaptation except for some little extra dialogue bits with Shampoo (and a single line change that still says the same thing, but without a certain dated joke heh).

The first adaptation changed a whole lot in this arc, particular towards the end (yup, next ep/manga does NOT take place at a snowy mountain lol).

Thanks to how they did it in there, in the old anime, the school students don't know about Ranma's secret til an arc faaaaar later down the line, at the very end, by episode 156 (unlike in here, where Ranma's secret is out of the bag from this point onward... for everyone not named Kuno, a recurring gag lol).

@Danpmss When I refer to the OG, I mean the OG anime, I’m aware this remake is actually sticking closer to the manga, but my first experience was the original anime, so to me that’s the OG if that makes sense lol, sorry for the confusion.

Very similar to the episode from the 1989 series. I remember it quite well. He battles Mousse as a girl, and has trouble because of his shorter stature. Dr Tofu uses a pressure point to allow him to handle hot water, but only once. He then defeats Mousse as a boy. Ranma is still stuck as a girl, though, but the Phoenix pill will cure his condition. Cologne has it. He needs to master the Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire technique to get it. At the festival, he actually masters it in a goldfish catching game (later becomes piranhas), and steals the case with the pill held by Cologne. But it's candy. Turns out she did that just in case he did master the technique. And we end on that.

Here's the thing about this episode: everyone seems to know that he can change into a girl now. When did they find out? Why aren't they surprised? I didn't miss an episode. But it seems his secret isn't a secret anymore. Regardless, fun episode!

Guys, him being able to change male<->female was literally in the news in S2E1 :D I know it was just like thrown in at the beginning and I myself wasn't sure what it means, but I expect them all to know in a way that both Ranma's are the same person except for characters that need to confuse them two ^^

Loved the episode. I feel like the anime is blazing through the manga’s content without rushing or skipping anything. I can’t believe we’ve already reached Ranma’s signature move, Roasting Chestnuts on an Open Fire. Can’t wait for him to turn back into a man though.

This episode was so fun!

I thought the fight against Mousse was great! The man has a really nice body, Shampoo should reconsider. ;-)

The second half was really entertaining as well. Of course Ranma would master the technique in a few days! And watching her work as a server was nice; she was so cute in her Chinese outfit!

Mmmmm im enjoying it but i have LOTS of issues with this episode and season overall. For starters the pacing is all over the place, just way too fkin fast for all the things they trying to show. I understand thats the mayor reason for the manga like frames; which i do appreciate by the way, i do like they're taking interesting visual choices.
Then there's the lack of breathers to give some weight to the problems Ranma is facing right now, just a little slice of life scenes seeing him struggling with her everyday stuff would do actually.
Also the chemistry between Ranma and Akane is pretty much non existing so far in this season. And of course is getting really crowded which could be fun but right now it came as just disorienting.
None of which i mention take away from the show still being funny as hell though but i hope it will get better moving forward. Season 1 proved they could do everything i just mention so much better.

PD: i forgot: THEY ALREADY KNOW HE CAN CHANGE JUST LIKE THAT? wtf? like.. WHEN did that happened?

Wow, so many perverts were having the time of their lives when girl Ranma was revealed "transformed" and was losing all her clothes. Yeah, girl Ranma is cool, but calm down. Obviously i recalled there was a one-time "button" to briefly make him back into male form, but it just didn't last. Too bad the "being hired at the restaurant and making customers applauding her" was so short, but i obviously enjoyed the summer festival in yukatas part. And Ranma is already enjoying staying in girl form more than he / she likes to admit. And not gonna lie, this is making me want to rewatch the exact same arc in the 1989 series too and see all the differences.

Oh, yes, the "Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire" episode. This one is among those I most fondly remember from when I watched the original some 20+ years ago.

The goldfish fishing challenge with piranhas was so fun, what a crazy idea.
