I can't believe Riko committed terrorism in the airport lmao

Officer my goat, trolling the entire fucking city lol

I loved this show, of course the animation is 10/10, but I still have to give it a 8/10, as fun as it is, not all the jokes landed, some plots are straight up boring (like Matsuri and Ecchan, or that actor dude with his animals). To make it simpler, I wasn't expecting this to be better than the absolute masterpiece that is Nichijou, but sadly it ended up being even more boring...
It's actually hard for me not being able to give this a 10/10 😭, but I really hope that with this they decide to finally continue adapting Nichijou since the anime didn't cover everything, and there are new manga volumes.
Sorry if my english is bad (っ˘▽˘)っ~~~
Btw, cry about it.

I don't think I've ever seen something as over the top in animation as the musical section. Absolutely incredible way to end.

The fake horse was too funny. I cried when Matsuri and Eri were saying goodbye to each other. 😭 Wako laughing with the gas mask on while everyone was sneezing. She doesn’t have a care in the world. 😂 The musical number was a perfect ending.

I’ll miss this anime. Wish it was longer than 13 episodes. There were so many characters but they did a good job showcasing them all. KyoAni once again showing they’re the GOAT. 🐐 Bravo 🎉

What in the good flying F*** was this ending? This has been quite the ride and I'm glad I got to watch it with you all (including the haters). I like the final message a lot, and I can see a lot of love went into this show, with all of the characters appearing in the end, but it just felt like too much in too little. Anyways, an easy classic; great show all around.
I am a little confused as to how some call it nichijou 2, sure it had similar elements but i think it stands a lone quite strongly. Besides, we already have nichibro, which was also good.

We even got so many songs for the finale... and a time machine that obviously didn't work in the end lol.

Sadly, didn't like the anime much overall... I would say each episode for me had like 5 mins of good moments and 20 min of boring ones, most of the jokes flopped for me. There was just that episode with all the points of view which was absolutely awesome and I wish all the eps were as good as this one but in my opinion it wasn't the case at all. I respect the awesome animation but it's hard to appreciate it when the rest isn't at this level...

Adatara Ryota best boy saved the day at end...

The painful day of seeing Matsuri and Ecchan seperate🥲
I am gonna miss their cuteness so much.

And longass weirdass musical..
That was A way to end. Not very impressive but decent enough and well suited for this anime.

Good anime, definitely worse than Nichijou and comedy was a lot weaker. On the upside it give few continuing storyline which was good.

KyoAni and the author do their utmost to show how important and precious friendship is. Some people still say, "Are those ships?" But it was a unique experience, though I found City significantly more surreal and artistic overall than I expected after watching Nichijou.

@WaterMage As far as I understand from discussions with people who follow the author closely, he decided to write City while Nichijou is on hiatus.

@Marinate1016 I don't know about the "totally in love" part, but it really depends on what you like about City. Just make the main trio high school students, add a rom-com element, and significantly tone down the surrealism, and you've essentially got Nichijou. It's not for nothing that people say that City is Nichijou without the author's self-limitations.

@0451 I think it's not so much about life in Japan, but rather that the show's humor is largely oriented toward the surrealism and quirkiness of the situation or context. Like in that scene where Tatewaki's father pretended to be his future self because he caught him in his room early.

@WaterMage I'm not trying to criticize you for anything. It's understandable that if an author has a rather unique and original style, their manga with imore free writing, can be a bit more difficult to understand than other works. Just compare JoJo during Araki's peak with the battle shonens he wrote in the early arcs.

Well that was a pretty unique finale, not particularly funny but you can feel the passion for this project

Overall this was a mixed bag, some episodes were great others not really, animation was really constant and beautiful though, some characters were much better than others (but had not much screen time)

So yeah solid 6/10, expected more from a Nichijou spiritual sequel but it's not even close to reaching nor topping it.

I had such a wonderful time with this lovely show. It filled me with a lot of positive energy and laughs. The art was so cute yet never static enough that it couldn't breathe. The art style lent itself incredibly well to this anime's comedy. Never did I ever feel that gags felt out of place because of the art. All the performances of the voice actors fit the characters well. The characters were so fun and even if not visually unique, I feel that their personalities were distinct enough. Better yet, the personalities weren't really so over the top that it was a mess, but instead everything felt pretty grounded except for the few extreme oddballs. However, I still think those extreme oddballs somehow fit well enough that it didn't seem as if they were out of place. City the Animation has this great balance in humor, visuals, and even audio. Every pulls together so well. I could watch this over and over again and never get bored. Admittedly, I'm a sucker for this type of set up, where all the characters have their own thing, and yet all of it relates in a way-- or at least everything works together, even unintentionally, to create the heartbeat of the city. It's honestly such an amazing feeling seeing everything flow like this.

I know a lot of people seem to prefer Nichijou, but I've only seen clips and like an episode of it, so I'm mostly coming in without letting that influence my thoughts-- which is great, in my opinion. I'll actually finish Nichijou at some point, but as a standalone anime, City the Animation is terrific. Might even call it a favorite. Also, I loved the OP and ED. I've been singing or humming the OP often. I'm going to miss this show, but thankfully it's worth a re-watch.

Not for the first time, KyoAni knows how to make me tear up like a little kid and it was the farewell scene between Ecchan and Matsuri at the airport that did it in for me. Ryouta, Wako and the others making sure that the two best friends could have a proper goodbye to each other was based, for sure. =)

After that, the whole vice of the episode turned upside down and became a full-on musical because of a fake Michelin star for Makabe's restaurant. It was funny, random, and chaotic, but it sums up the whole vibe of CITY so damn easily.

Overall, I'm left feeling really satisfied with CITY The Animation. I still regard Nichijou as a better show, but CITY had plenty of moments that I will fondly reminisce about for not only 2025's anime shows, but for many more years to come. Kyoto Animation always delivers on the production values and they definitely flexed their might many times during this series. It's easily one of the best animated shows this year.

Whatever they make next, I'll be sure to watch it. See you in the next summer, somewhere. =)

I thought this series was a little bad due to me not finding this humor funny at times. I thought this was the worst episode dub wise. The whole song wasn't dubbed with any subtitles. At least put subtitles because I love hard subs more because they're more reliable than AI soft subs. 4/10 for me due to being bored at times.

What an absolute treat of a show this was. And the finale did not disappoint. The musical sequence was unexpected but incredible. The kind of flair to expect from Kyoto Animation from what we've seen in this show. So glad they choose to pick up City after doing Nichijou all those years ago. I'm definitely going to buy all the City volumes over the next little while now. I assume there is more manga to adapt. We don't really need a sequel, but I would not be against it.

If there was a way to finish an anime like City was with a farewell. But not any kind of farewell, an actual farewell and... whatever that ludicrous musical was all about.

Indeed, this episode pretty much sums up what City was about. In part it had its sentimental parts that despite the crazy setting could leave us caring about the characters and their relationships. On the other side it's the highly directed and fluid animation with gags so random they can sometimes catch you off guard. They can hit or miss but there's no doubt that they're definitely creative ones. And with this the anime is nowhere near forgettable and becomes distinguishable enough from Nichijou.

Imo, Nichijou is still the better anime considering that it hit higher more consistently even if the production value wasn't as high. That being said, episodes like episode 5 are the reason there's still room to grow in this medium. Simply beautiful.

Out of every single thing on my list, never before have I seen such an absolutely, completely insane episode of animation like this one. I thought I couldn't be more blown away after some of the previous scenes in this series, but nothing else even comes close. Actually I thought that first minute or so of songs was all there would be while I was in the middle of watching, but then it just kept going, somehow, kyo ani outdid themselves again??!
And it wasn't just the visuals, we got several kinds of music, the voice actors singing, lyrics that somebody had to write, and those smooth transitions between every song... How is this real... How did people make this...

Also I loved how nighttime looked in that first scene, and we got a nice resolution for matsuri and ecchan... And of course it all ends with a bang as chaos starts all over again, another day in city

So Ecchan and Matsuri finally parted ways but if there's a follow up to this series hopefully they will meet up again. Regarding the musical, I mostly liked it but I thought it went on a bit too long although I did like how Riko was briefly shown as a Disney princess (too bad she rejected Tatewaku again though).

I thought that this series as a whole was a fun watch with incredible animation and a bunch of different and zany characters. One of the only criticisms I have for this show is that some of the gag comedy skits did not land but I figured that's due to cultural differences. Anyways, I would definitely watch a follow up to this if one is ever made.

- Wako putting on a gas mask so she could laugh without sneezing xD
- Ryouta being escorted by the airport security guards xD
- Tatewaku forcing himself to be happy after Riko rejected him again xD

Fantastic final episode to conclude this show. Absolutely loved the idea of the musical with practically the entire cast joining in as a way to say goodbye to the viewer. Initial segment with the farewell between Ecchan and Matsuri was also great, gotta add.

Man, this was such a fun ride. I enjoyed the hell out of these thirteen episodes even though it's true that some jokes/segments didn't land as strongly as others. Mainly the ones focused on Japanese wordplay but that was to be expected.
Anyways, still had a great time with this show. All the characters were amusing in their own ways, animation was superb and overall direction was pure insanity. Easily another success from KyoAni.

8/10 - Also favorite OP of Summer season, btw.

I love Ecchan and Matsuri so much. The best thing about this show is their friendship. And the fact that everyone was trying to buy them some extra time was so cute as well. Adatara. The GOAT. Matsuri was given the Nobel Prize in the end, which was cute of Ecchan.

Everyone got some kind of reward because Papa Makabe's restaurant became a one-star restaurant, and it was amazing. The celebration was cute. Tatewaku got rejected again. Poor guy. Everyone is so nice in this CITY. It's so cute.

Their cute coping in the end was so cute when they found out that they were celebrating without any proof. LOL. But who cares, since everyone in this CITY loves their food. And orders started pouring in. Things got very busy quickly.

Everyone is happy in this CITY. Cutest. I loved this show so much. I'll miss it a lot. I hope someday in the future, we get to see more of it.

See you in the Summer somewhere...

@0451 I think it's not so much about life in Japan, but rather that the show's humor is largely oriented toward the surrealism and quirkiness of the situation or context. Like in that scene where Tatewaki's father pretended to be his future self because he caught him in his room early.

I'd say that was one of the tamer jokes. I liked how Tatewaku's father pretended to be him from the future. It was funny. Meanwhile, the jokes about the animals are so out there. It almost feels out of place. I'd say Nagumo, Niikura, Wako, Ecchan, and Matsuri are about the only characters who felt like characters in this show. Other characters didn't really get their chance to shine all that much.

Lack of focus. Maybe I just don't vibe with this type of humor. But from what I saw the anime had a crap load of cut content. If those content were adapted maybe I'd think differently of the characters.
I wonder if this is how people who only watched Urusei Yatsura Remake felt. I pity them.

@0451 Well, I haven't watched the original UY anime, but overall I liked the adaptation. Although, maybe my opinion was just filtered through the lens of nostalgic retro vibes. Returning to CITY, my main complaint was the excessive amount of "lol, what?" humor, the whole point of which was in the lacking logic and sense. Otherwise, it's truly Nichijou without limits for me.

Good lord, this was a good anime. They made a good anime, at last. 2025 was a good year after all.

There's just something so melancholic about it, though. Like, it's so absurd and ridiculous, and at all times hilarious, but still it just ends on a really melancholic episode.

The last episode had that small message saying "This summer will soon be that one summer", and now "See you in summer, somewhere." That's some mono no aware shit. Japanese people are so fucking good at hitting you hard like that.

This is one for the ages.
Pretend there's something flashy and cool here.

Well UY had quadruple the episodes so it did it better than City at least. But it pales in comparison to the OG. I doubt most people who only watched the remake were invested in the characters anywhere near as much as people who watched the original. And that's basically the problem with City. Other than the characters I already mentioned I couldn’t invest in any of the characters. Like I had no idea Izumi and Izumi Wako were sisters until I looked it up just now. Maybe it was mentioned in the anime at some point but I didn’t remember it. IMO the heart of SOL/comedy shows like this are the characters and they heavily influence how much you enjoy the show.

I enjoyed City for what it was but it’s obvious it could've been even better if it had more episodes where you could get used to the characters more. Either that or cut back on the number of characters to only focus on some of them. But reading what KyoAni said their focus was on making sure every single character got to appear aka quantity over quality which was basically what the UY Remake did. I feel like all characters suffered because of this because I didn’t even care about for example that old landlady or the Adatara siblings because of how small their appearances were.

@0451 To be honest, I only learned this from one of the comments. So even if it was mentioned in the show, it didn't affect my knowledge. Hmm, I think they primarily wanted to represent the manga well as a thank him for Nichijou and the support it brought. That's why they also adapted the chapters partially out of order. But I also think that if CITY gets a sequel, it would be beneficial for both sides. After all, Nichijou could also get a sequel someday.

@RobertBobert The chances of any of them getting proper sequels is slim unless another studio does it which is very unlikely.

This anime is full of character, charm and it is oozing with love and care from both the animation team and the mangaka. I may be exaggerating but I haven't seen an animation with such creative humour and jokes since the Looney Tunes and Scooby Doo. A unique and phenomenal experience.!!!! 10/10

When I start to review this anime I say something like "ok but that's not the same level as Nichijou, it is not more funny than Nichijou" but at this time I didn't understand something really simple : this is not Nichijou !!!!! City The Animation is something, is not a "Nichijou 2", he got his humour, has different characters, has a different story, has a different place and with that in my end, City The Animation is a pure masterpiece!

Wow, what a legendary ending! Haven't seen something this amazing for a while! What a surprise. A musical at the end! Who could've expected this?!

Overall it was good but not as grate as Nichijou IMO. Maybe this would've been better with more episodes?

Effort and love alone put in making this show is worth appreciating!

And there goes my favorite anime of the year.
I loved every second out of every episode.
It made me laugh and it made me cry, a wonderful experience all the way through.
Thank you, Kyoto Animation for yet another masterpiece.
I will miss all the people that live in City.
