@eglepe 100%. Aside from the hero-pretend, he's a loser. Seeing how many people resonated with him, it was both surprising and not surprising at the same time, lol.
| @Dephree The difference is that's very understandable in this case. Yang Cheng had his parents killed in front of him as a kid and then he got bullied while being an orphan. Just calling him a loser after experiencing his traumatic childhood is just wild. Did you watch the episode half asleep? |
| I was annoyed at first that we didn’t pick up where we left off last week with the E-Soul and Moon cliffhanger because that’s such a traumatic experience to just leave us hanging, BUT after thinking about it, it makes total sense they’d give us E-Soul’s backstory and show us what led up to that event so we can empathise with him when we get back there. Definitely made me a fan of the guy so far, assuming Yang Chen is going to be the character throughout. Batman ass original story having to watch your parents get gunned down, saved by E-Soul so he has this preconceived notion of what a hero looks and sounds like.. and then just trying to make ends meet and impress the girl he likes.. if this really is the same dude I’m curious wtf led him down that path because he’s someone I can’t help but root for. Xia Xia’s brother came off like a little prick, but he’s just a kid looking for friends and a role model to look up to just like Yang was back in the day. Their banter was so good and tbh, win-win situation for Yang because if the little brother likes you, you’re halfway there. The kidnapping chase and fight was obviously the highlight, the way they intercut E-Soul’s speech with Yang being on the ground, no mask on, at death’s doorstep and still fighting to protect the little kid was so dope. Swear every week they give us a hype hero comeback moment with a Sawano OST and that shit moves me every time π. That ending tho???? What’s up with this show and cliffhangers goddamn it. Who tf is Shang Chao and how did he know Yang was that E soul..? I feel like he might be the one behind the kidnapping since the guy used a voice modifier and he’s filthy rich.. great ep, can’t wait for next. |

| And now we're going to arc 2 starring E-soul, who will have 3 episodes dedicated to his arc instead of 4 like Lin Ling's. Fun fact, there was a fake job listing seen in Chinese for Yang Cheng's children's entertainer position. Fans translated it to English, so it may not be wholly accurate. Tl;dr, The actor recruitment process is brutal (lmao), E-soul was active for at least 34 years (strongly suggesting the line of successors to be true), and E-soul was the original X. He also saved people during the "Fall of Dawn" incident from 30 years ago, which is likely this event https://youtube.com/watch?v=Z4W2A19SMak from E-soul's pv. While I have my inhibitions regarding Yang Cheng's characterization, specifically the frustratingly shy love-struck boy, I think it'll likely build upon his weaknesses to make him a worthwhile character. Otherwise, really interesting set-up for Yang achieving his first trust value. Looking forward to the next episode. |

| Interesting to suddenly get the story of the "guy" who killed Moon last episode (that's confirmed to be "E-Soul" right?). From Zero to Hero, a guy who lost everything and didn't have anything saving a kid just like how he was saved back then. Seriously a backstory I like better than Lin Ling's. I really like him to end up with the girl he like but I can't really trust anything from this show after what happened to Moon, and what more if he is the one who did it. Lin Ling being a replacement for the original Nice, and now Yang Cheng is in a similar situation where he is also not the original. If that E-Soul who killed Moon is already Yang Cheng then I wonder what his reason could be... I guess the most confusing stuff is the timeline, I best take note of that.. Yang Cheng's story is 5 years ago from Lin Ling's story. Also pretty cool how they kept bringing out Lucky Cyan as she's also one of the top 10 heroes. |

| Another great episode. Every episode has me completely hooked to the screen. E-Soul seems like an awesome hero (and very cool design). I have no idea what happened at the end of the last episode where he killed Moon but I guess it's a wait and see. My only guess is that it's an impersonator or one of those actors, since this episode showed that many people are trying to "be E-Soul". To Be Hero X is doing really well making me care about all these characters + the amazing animation. |

| okay, first episode that i had problems with my suspension of disbelief. i mean, what even is the story? i'm all for underdogs, but this is a bit too much. zero trust value, but that sister leaves her baby brother with him and he doesn't even get a point? what is this world? and the fight scene. he should be dead. and my problem isn't the sudden durge of power he gets from one point, but dude, thise guys must be really weak to have him standing up after taking that beating. too little blood, too little consequences, i can't say this was well written at all. but the anime is still stunning to look at and i still wanna know the world better. i just hope it doesn't go to far like this again. |

| I'm pretty sure it showed a guy with lightning powers at the end of the previous episode, so I thought that this was going to be the backstory of that guy, which is going to be a villain. Or are we just introducing the other main casts? |

| The premise of another generic looking dark haired protag driven by an unrequited crush seems repetitive after the first arc. The first scene, like Batman's origin, was so dark I was really intrigued. But then the pivot to focusing his crush deflated my excitement a lot. I think heart of this episode, the mc's bond with a kid who looks up to him, would have worked great on its own without the sister. E-soul to the mc, mc to the kid — the relationship of mentor/savior + his ward (like Batman & Robin) is so potent I genuinely think the crush is an unnecessary element that weakens the theme. Idk, maybe the sister will end up having an actual role later aside from just being an object of desire. Hope so. |
| Bro better go tf to the lucky cyan concert with her or imma riot E-soul is an intriguing character and we don't even know yet who he is. For now it seems he wants to remain as an ideal, and is looking for someone to either take up the mantle or share it with him. What's happening on screen is captivating enough, but the mystery and what's going on in the background (which we don't fully know as of yet) just propels everything forward even stronger. So glad I decided to wait for this to finish airing to watch it. Cliffhangers like these can be brutal. |
