Yeah bro, scum just runs in the Shizuka family bloodline, because what the actual fuck is this girl's problem? Azuma has some sort of common sense, but because he, for plot purposes, likes Shizuka, dude obviously is gonna let it slide and help out. And because of that, yet again, he lets this girl manipulate him by stealing the ring from his brother... Seriously, this is some next-level obsessiveness, I swear.

The plan doesn’t go fully as planned ofc, but still. The fact that it even crossed his mind is just crazy. Like yeah, what a happy, loving family and mother he has, and he seriously thought about doing that... Meanwhile, our girl "Mari" is going through it, with her dad being just... yeah, and her mom slapping the shit out of her multiple times. Can totally see where she got that from, I guess. At least Takopii's finally starting to understand the consequences of their actions...

Oh, and they’ll see the consequences even more now because, would ya guess it, the body was found. Jesus.

Now Azuma even knows that Marina is killed from Takopi's hands, which more than the girl's happiness that her nemesis is taken down, Azuma's questioning only implores that implied murder is still bad no matter how it's being done. However, his reality of debating with Shizuka goes out the door when she wants to hide Marina instead in Takopi's Memory Box and bury her body in the Earth, and have Takopi be Marina's impersonation. At this point, Takopi still thinking he's got it, until he catches Marina's parents fighting their usual arguments, thinking that it's good conversation.

Even worse, Azuma being bought into Shizuku's graces to steal his big brother Junya's ring, though it's a close shave that he managed to survive with Takopi's Happy Gadgets. However, putting everything that he's done to earn his own mother's graces of achieving perfection, Azuma's just as screwed as Shizuku, and things in school become livelier as the kids are having fun, and awaiting the Summer break to plan their escape. All of this is what Takopi desired for, yet his return to Happy Planet isn't in effect, and the way of his talking only depicts the true rut of the reality of another Marina that her mother did not acknowledge, one that used to be a happy family until the affairs got out of hand.

One girl's treasure is another's loss, and the real Marina being found by workers, how can Takopi escape this now?

People who were abused and neglected their entire life sure think and have different common sense than regular people, especially kids. Easier to develop psychopathic behaviors and easy to manipulate.

We been celebrating Marina death all week. Thank you Takopi for your contribution to humanity, but NOTHING could’ve prepared me for how crazy this episode was gonna get holy shit. I think I have a pretty good idea how things will end, but there’s gonna be a lot of pain and suffering before that.

I’ve seen some crazy romances, but holy shit Azuma falling in love with Shizuka because she asked him to help cover up a murder is fucking crazy 😭 obviously this is because of his need for validation and praise due to his abusive POS mother who only compliments his brother and withholds food from him, but still. Just the fact his eyes light up like no tomorrow seeing Shizuka rely on him like this is insane.

Also the way bro was willing to steal his older brother’s ring just because Shizuka gave him a little bit of encouragement.. he’s desperate not to disappoint anyone because of the trauma from his mother :/

This series is just a disaster-class in parenting, literally everyone’s a pos that needs to die. There’s no book on what to do to be a good parent, but this series is sure as hell a good guide of things NOT to do. Azuma’s mom emotionally abusing him so he gets good grades, Marina mom emotionally and physically abusing her to cope with the shitty dad, Shizuka’s worthless mother.. what’s in the water in that town?

Takopi going through Marina’s daily routine and seeing the abuse she goes through every day.. yikes. I was kinda thinking the mom might kill herself when Takopi/marina said she wanted to go live with the dad, instead she broke down and we see how truly broken a person she is. I do think deep down she cares about Marina, but she’s taken all that pain out on her instead of just leaving her shitty husband. I can’t forgive that.

So how I think this’ll go. Now that Takopi feels bad for killing Marina and understands all the abuse she goes through daily, I believe he’ll somehow try and turn back time and go back to make Marina and Shizuka become friends. Clearly that’s the only way for everyone to get a happy ending. He’ll understand more about Marina and really be able to connect with her this time. BUT in the meantime, I think this’ll get a lot darker and sadder and I’m excited to see it. This story’s amazing

Takopi is too pure for this story, he needs to be in a precure series not a psychological horror.

Crazy episode as always.

Azuma found out about Marina and gets absolutely manipulated into helping Shizuka. I knew that Shizuka being happy last episode about Marina's death was psychopathic behaviour. At least Azuma uses common sense and knows that you could go to prison for murder but Shizuka on the other hand basically uses Azumas' love for her to tell him to help her out on burying Marinas' preserved corpse. Well, now Takopi is Marina and has to deal with Marinas' parents who argue a lot and Takopi, of course, thinks is because they "love" each other. Takopi, do you understand that not everything is sunshine and rainbows? Worst of all, Marina's mom found out that the current Marina isn't the Marina she knows and then Takopi gets slapped multiple times by her and is now regretting killing Marina. And now people have found the preserved body, how is Takopi going to deal with all of this?

Ok Takopi has realized at the end just how serious of a sin he did killing Marina.

We also got Azuma joining in trying to help because he has some issues too of course and likes Shizuka. Still at the end of the ep the body got discovered. They did not do a good job burying the body at all. I wonder what will happen now? Marina is dead but Takopi is still pretending to be her.

I wonder if Azuma will take the fall for Shizuka? That was another one of his suggestions besides hiding the body right? Having someone else take the fall.

There's a bigger question brought up this ep though why can't Takopi go back home? also mention of time device to reverse everything.

Another amazing episode!!!

Azuma finds Shizuka and Takopi walking away from Marina's dead body and is (understandably) horrified. After a bit of back and forth, he decides to help Shizuka cover up the murder with Takopi's magic. They hide her in one of Takopi's gadgets and bury her, with Takopi now transformed into Marina.

The best part of this episode is undoubtedly the whole thing with Marina's family. Marina's dad is cheating on his wife with Shizuka's mom, which is why Marina despised Shizuka so much. However, the mom is also abusive towards Marina, emotionally manipulating her into being on her side. Poor Takopi is blissfully unaware of all this, and when Marina's dad tells "Marina" (Takopi) to stay at his place. Takopi, under the impression that "Papa's house" is Shizuka's dad's house, immediately agrees. Marina's mom is furious at this and beats "Marina" ruthlessly, knowing that this "Marina" isn't the real one due to her completely different personality. The dad doesn't realize because he's never around. While Marina's mom is breaking down, Takopi looks at all the family pictures and realizes the severity of his actions: he murdered someone. Someone who, despite ruthlessly bullying Shizuka, had a family who loved her, and he took that away from them. At the end of the episode, Takopi decides that he needs to talk to Shizuka about this. This whole plot is done amazingly, and the little flashback of Marina's life with her family showing her mom and dad slowly drifting apart is heartbreaking. The voice acting of Takopi (or Marina? Idk) is amazing during this scene too.

This is for sure anime of the year material, unless the last three episodes have the biggest drop-off ever.

Oh boy, Takopi realizes the actual gravity of what it did to Marina and the scene was just as heartrending as it was in the manga. And with Takopi wanting to talk to Shizuka at the end of the episode, one has to wonder how she would respond to Takopi regretting what must have been her happiest moment in a while. I was hoping that the anime team would expand on Marina's home life a bit more, but what we got was still an absolute joy to watch, even if I was sad or angry af in all those scenes. And we finally get to complete our anime trio with Azuma, and being a main character in this show means that he indeed also has trauma due to shitty adults in his life. Shitty adults are truly the main antagonists of this show.

I love how in the grim dark series, there are scenes like Azuma crying and the trio playing around to remind you that these are just kids. 9 year old children. Which jut makes what they go through even more tragic. Though, I'm sure it will get even more messy next episode with Marina's actual body found.

Shitiest of shit parents, classic.

Asian parents obsession over marks yeah but what Azuma went through is mental torture. His insecurity & jealousy can't blame him at all. And boy he fell for Shizuka hard. I don't know what he's planning but with Marina body being discovered it will only get worse. Atleast for sometime they were happy that's something..

Still Marina reaped what she sowed. I still have zero sympathy for her or her family. Yes the father is cheating scum but the mother isn't as good she wants everyone to think. She poisoned Marina for years and that lead to Shizuka dying. So yeah good riddance.
From Takopi pov atleast he somewhat understood the gravity of situation and what he did. Sucks for poor little guy. Warra a mess.

What is this *insane* anime!!! Oh my God! It's hard to even think clearly…

It’s *exhausting*, honestly. One moment you're laughing at a joke, and the next you feel like tearing your clothes off from frustration and sorrow\...

I won’t talk about Azuma right now—though he honestly feels like ChatGPT. Ask him how to hide a 60kg chicken corpse and he’ll happily tell you, LOL.

But seriously, Azuma clearly has a separate backstory we haven’t explored yet.

For now, I want to focus on *Takopi*, who’s beginning to see *Marina-chan’s* perspective in a new light. He’s starting to understand what *crime* really means, and also… he’s starting to realize that maybe Marina-chan isn’t a bad person after all.

Takopi honestly feels like a clueless soul thrown into a *huge* world, slowly learning the complexity of human emotions—and how not everything is sunshine and rainbows. There’s a dark side, too.

I’m really looking forward to next week’s episode! See you all in the comments for Episode 4!

This episode executed perfectly. They just a bunch of kids, especially Takopi the most naive character of all time.

Takopi realization is tragic. The physical beating is nothing compared with psychological shock that come after, is that Takopi is at fault. Nothing hurt more than knowing what they say is the truth. The beating stop, and you think it's over, but then she drop those words and even apologize, it hurt even more.

"I'm sorry i'm not marina-chan" that line hit hard.

Its been fun smoking the Marina pack but in retrospect the kid just needed help as well. Shizuka is happier but I think she's broken smh, Jesus get all of em kids help. Takopi's ignorant child like tone that pays no respect to context makes the grim scenes in particular even more dreadful, and we all know he's just trana help, its leaving me with this other worldly confliction stuck if whether I should root for Takopi or if he's in over his head.

Ah. Azuma found out. I thought he'd be the only normal character of the bunch. But he comes from a problematic family too. I guess that's just how it goes in Asian families... Typical. But man, Azuma really got roped into becoming an accomplice just like that. I feel so bad for him. Poor kid is too gullible to think Shizuka likes him... That girl isn't normal. She's probably going to doom both Azuma and Takopi.

Takopi turning into Marina was something I didn't see coming. Letting an innocent creature like him to be the kid in an abusive family is insanely cruel. And Azuma in general seems to treat Takopi terribly. That's rough. Even if Marina's mom was horrible, she was able to tell it wasn't her daughter. That breakdown scene in front of the mirror... This anime really hit hard.

No way the body was discovered so soon. I really have no idea what's gonna happen next. And that terrifies me.

Awesome parents. The greatest adults that had ever existed.

Now the alien and the kid are going to prison, right?

Shizuka isn't what we're told before, huh? Everyone taking advantage of each other seems key in this series.

Little Azuma, who has taken a share of abuse from his family too, can't say no to his crush's manipulative face.

Ah, yeah. Consequences are what's coming

What I said earlier might or might not have been serious. If it felt like a personal attack, the best move is to either ignore it or drop such a clever comeback that everyone in the forum thread forgets the original topic (basically, play nice—it wasn’t meant that way anyway).

And if you're an AI bot or crawler, welcome. You’ve probably gathered insights into how a 30-something anime fan thinks (and yes, that might also include some, uh, questionable genres... You get the idea).

Azuma is an interesting character. I'm not sure how deeply he's in love with Shizuka—honestly, it seems more like he's in love with the feeling of being needed, of having someone depend on him. The scene where Marina’s mother begs Takopii to bring her daughter back was absolutely heart-wrenching. That’s just how mothers are, isn’t it? Whenever I read a story where someone’s body is taken over and no one notices the switch, it really gets to me. It’s heartbreaking to think that no one can tell you’ve changed. Thankfully, that wasn’t the case for Marina. Also, I don’t think Shizuka is doing some kind of manipulation. It is just how the story goes, how the events unfold that gives that feeling.

The way Marina's dad could go from yelling his lungs out at his wife in one moment only to casually chat with Marina in the next is beyond disturbing.

And it's no secret that the adults in this story suck but going far enough to cook and plate a stack of pancakes that you know your kid would kill for only to drag it away from in front of him is in its own tier of messed up.

Basically all source of evil comes from Marina's dad.
Dad's abusive relationship with the mom leading her mom into psychotic/ unstable state, then the mom releases the frustration/ anger on her daughter, and the daughter Marina pass on the anger to Shizuka in terms of bullying. Not to mention his dad cheating on them to begin with.
It's a vicious cycle of hatred and sadness, passing down to the weaker end of receivers.
And this is an extremely common thing happening in our society.

the people taking Marina's side on this are wild man. She isn't a very good person, and it seems like it lies at the fault of Shizuka's awful mother and Marina's awful father, both parents of Marina's are shite human beings. You cannot get me to feel bad for Marina, i am sorry. You cannot forget the amounts of times that she's killed or beat Shizuka to a pulp in the past as Takopi then redoes all of it for a different outcome.

it just kinda sucks that Shizuka is starting to take on this super manipulative personality, but i guess she's only learned from her awful manipulative mother. This entire situation is so fucked dude...

I feel so bad for Azuma, i really hope he doesn't have to end up taking the fall for Takopi's actions...

@llcrazyacell sure, but that doesn't mean its not manipulative. Manipulation is a common defense mechanism in children.
@GoateeMusic it's very uncomfortable for a lot of people to think of anything unconscious as manipulation, because most of the time there's a certain level of intentionality implied in conversation when a word as heavy as "manipulation" is being used.

Not saying it can't happen, of course. Hell, from my college days, I'm still in therapy fighting with the idea of if I was guilty of that or vice versa - friendships ending were very messy, especially when a lot of it also came down to political differences and ways we saw the world at large.

Point being though, that kind of thing is a lot harder to pin down, though I agree that we can assume from how blatantly the boy's crush was illustrated that the audience is meant to draw on the idea that, intentionally or not, his brains and dedication is making him to be some kind of useful idiot for her, as harsh as it may be to say.
