I believe the “happy” ending shown after Takopi’s death is not reality, but Takopi’s final wish.

1. No Real Timeline Change
Takopi could only jump back in time, not alter the future after his death. Once he’s gone, there should be no way for the timeline to improve.

2. Proof from the Characters
Even if we accept that Shizuka and Marina remembered Takopi and became friends, there’s no reason why Azuma would suddenly become brave and make friends with other kids. His growth feels disconnected, like part of an idealized vision rather than natural development.

3. Untrustworthy Narrator
The narration comes from Takopi, who is naive, already dead, and admitted himself: “I can do nothing for you, but I believe you can be adults one day.” This sounds like hope, not fact.

Conclusion

The ending is not a new timeline, but Takopi’s imagined “happy future.” Reality stayed tragic, while his last words gave us a glimpse of what he wished could happen.
