It's important to make it clear that many of the things I liked as a child are no longer of interest to me. My taste has changed with age. It's also important to make it clear that back then, I didn't know what anime even was, nor did I watch much of what I now know is anime. Having said that, some anime that I enjoyed as a young child were Digimon Data Squad, Spider Riders, a bit of Pokémon: Black & White, and a bit of Pokémon: Diamond and Pearl, which aired on television, and some episodes of Kirby: Right Back at Ya!, which my younger sister and I watched on the Kirby TV Channel on our Nintendo Wii. She and I also watched Superbook and The Flying House, both Christian anime that aired on television, though even back then I was never too fond of those two.
As for the cartoons I liked, there's Grossology, Winx Club, Oggy and the Cockroaches, Recess, SpongeBob SquarePants, 6teen, Futurama, The Simpsons, one of the many Spider-Man cartoons (possibly the '90s Spider-Man: The Animated Series, which I quite liked on a re-watch), and I recall liking this one cartoon about some guy helping various monsters (this was my introduction to the dhampir), but I can't remember what it was called and haven't seen anything like it. I also watched some of Scooby-Doo, Dennis the Menace, Horrid Henry, Grizzly Tales for Gruesome Kids, Mr. Bean: The Animated Series, Ben 10, Phineas and Ferb, Tom and Jerry, Madeline, Courage the Cowardly Dog, Johnny Bravo, and Inspector Gadget, though they were never favourites of mine. Most importantly, the cartoon I loved most as a child was Avatar: The Last Airbender. I still love it to this day. ATLA became my favourite cartoon, nay, my favourite thing ever. Around 2012-2013, somewhere there, I watched and liked Gravity Falls. For a brief period, Gravity Falls became my favourite thing ever, but ATLA returned to that spot. Then after I had gotten into anime, Gurren Lagann became my favourite thing ever. After that, K-ON!, especially its second season became my favourite thing ever, where it still currently stands. Avatar: The Last Airbender does remain one of my top favourites, at least. |
