These girls play the most outrageous games out there lol, or more like Anne volunteers herself to do the most outrageous stuff. Really, I don’t think they needed to do a practical of whatever went down in the story with the Elaine of Astolat. You know, they are still kids at the end of the day, and I know these kinds of adventures make up one’s childhood, but yeah, you need to preserve the childhood as well to tell the stories later, doesn't it?

Felt Anne acted really ungrateful there when Gilbert saved her. I know she kinda regrets it too, but yeah she should’ve thought twice. I mean that insult he made is in the past now, and the kind of girl Anne is who literally looks forward to every day with a new perspective altogether, she should forget it now lol. Also you know, they’re growing up as well. Anne will leave for Queen’s academy if she passes, and yeah will leave her best-est friend Diana behind as well. I liked how we’re already talking about the future, I know it’s a bit early… we’re at the 7th episode itself as of now, but yeah still liked how Anne and all her friends have a dream they want to chase:) When felt like everything was good…

… that happened to Matthew. I hope it’s nothing serious(preview kinda tells it ain't anyways lol).

It's understandable why the other girls didn't want to do it, as it's embarrassing as heck to do something like that. If you're seen by someone you know, it feels like your life is ruined. But of course, nothing stops my girl Anne from doing childish and embarrassing things like these.

It was unfortunate that her fun was ruined by the neglected hole inside the dory. She ended up fighting for her life and somehow managed to cling to the pile. Suddenly, Gilbert happened to be passing by. As the nice guy he is, he helped her get onto his boat, took her to shore, and treated her kindly like a gentleman, but she remained cold to him.

So now Anne has made Gilbert hate her, even though he came forward and apologized. All he wanted was to be friends with her, but she couldn't let go of a small thing from the past, as if her life depended on staying mad at him. I mean, it's not his fault for calling her "Carrot" when her hair is that color.

The Miss Stacy segment was cute. Seeing their love for their teacher and wanting to continue being taught by her is just the cutest thing.

Hopefully Matthew is okay. Does he have a heart disease or something? He was clutching his chest once before.

I hope Matthew will get through that heart-attack. I read the book a long time ago, so while I remembered that this would happen but not that whether he would recover or not. Though this story has not been striking me as a tragedy and the teaser for the next episode didn't show Anne extremely unhappy so it should be fine.

I hope at least in that one year that pass, Anne at least learned how to swim a little. That was a teachable moment.

Oh no! Diana is one of those adventurous that say "I can fix him."

Well, this is a grounded story. Of course someone would pass out or have a heart attack at some point, to keep the dramatics going.

Time is passing so quickly in Green Gables, really feels like we’re watching Anne and the girls grow up right before our eyes, despite all that, kids will still be kids. I knew as soon as they suggested the boat thing it was gonna go terrible 😂 all of them gassing up Anne so she’d be the test dummy to get in the boat had me cracking up.

Good thing Gilbert happened to be in the area to save Anne, but I hate how mean she is to him 😭 it’s been like two years since they first met and she still hasn’t let that carrots hair joke go. “I’ll never be your friend” like cmon Anne, this is next level tsundere stuff. Ideal world would be an Anne/Diana ship, but realistically… Gilbert, we’re rooting for you!

“You’ll get a salary for teaching but a husband pays you nothing.” Oh Jane the feminist icon you are.

It’s funny how even back then kids were going thru the “I don’t know what I want to do in life” phase. The more things change, the more they stay the same. It’s what makes stories like these so timeless.

I knew Miss Stacy would have a massive impact on the kids as soon as she got introduced, but man everyone begging her to stay until they finish school and seeing her tear up got me emotional. It has to be such a wonderful feeling to have touched the lives of young people like that. Teachers are heroes and they don’t get paid nearly enough! Anne is gonna make a great teacher I know it, she’s already basically been the class romance instructor 😂

NOO MATTHEW HEART ATTACK??! I really hope they were able to get a doctor to him asap. Seems like he might have a bit of heart disease given he’d been clutching his chest for months. Please be ok 🙏🏾

It's nice to see Anne continue to be unforgiven toward a guy that insult her, more female protagonists should follow this protocol. I can't believe there are people saying that she should forgive him because he just save her life.

It takes a hundred years for women to stop putting a "marriage" as their life goal, but they finally did it. No one, no matter what gender, should put "marriage" as their life goal.

The cliffhanger is just too cruel.

Anne be like: ah, taking it easy time is over. It's time to continue to speed run the show equivalent to episode 31 -35 of OG anime for this episode. There are some stuff and small details that being cut off or completely removed in this episode. These slow and small things are what makes the original story or the old anime very charming. But all of the charms are completely washed away like summer breeze with this pacing. They are continuing to kill off Aunt Josephine's character lol. It feels like these few episodes keep showing only Anne's school life as if that's the only life she has. Anne was supposed to go to the city to visit the aunt together with Diana. And also they made their friendship so vanilla while sometimes they can hold different opinions and disagreements like an actual friendship between very close friend. They were supposed to have arguments and almost breaking their friendship over petty argument regarding their future and their oath to be single not married being besties forever. Why would they choose to cut out very important decision between them? And the damn red flag was shown very early. Even Anne wasn't supposed to know about Matthew's heart problem this early!

Gilbert doesn't deserve that kind of treatment from Anne after all that he has done to try to become her friend 😔
All those girls' purposes in their lives were so amusing and got me laughing. Jane just want to stay working all her life and not get married 'cause a husband wouldn't pay but a job does;haha..Love her so much.💖💖
How is she so wise at her age!? 'cause I was definitely not at that age lol
Josie's got a foul mouth. She's really gonna find a lazy ass husband 🤣😂
And Diana just want to find a wicked wild handsome young man and wanna fix him😅
that's so like her..and I believe she can🤭🤭
Stacy sensei is a wonderful soul. Everybody deserves atleast a single teacher like her in their life..✨✨
Mathew was trying so hard to not show them about him being ill. But not anymore. I hope this is not the end of him 😭😭

Lol, Anne unknowingly proposes a Boston marriage to Diana, while Diana dreams of becoming a Bastard Boyfriend shoujo manga's heroine, i.e. a typical Bronte Sisters heroine. Classic. Overall, the family vs. work dilemma is a very period piece for that time, but it's sad to realize that it's still relevant in modern Japan.

@phantomfandom This is the Victorian era. Women chose marriage as their life goal because otherwise they would simply end up in poverty due to the huge gender imbalance in the job market. This is not the 21st century, where you can expect people to do you a favor just because you are a woman. Not to mention the social morality of the time, when starting a family was considered something expected of both men and women, which made bachelors and "old maids" considered immoral and questionable. Which naturally created more single people, since more rigid social relations only make it more difficult to start a family. And yes, Gilbert didn't even mean to insult her, not to mention he obviously can't read her mind and know that it's too personal for her. You're just indulging in gender antagonism, even though he literally saved her life and even Anne herself knows it.

@BlichoBoy It's not even about correction, at that time the idea of the power of love was extremely popular in romantic literature in general. In fact, it was then that the archetypal dynamics of the maternal girl x the problem boy appeared. This is a classic example of patriarchal morality, standardizing "feminine virtues".

@XArceusX Classic mutual tsunderning. For some reason, Western fiction up until the late 20th century was obsessed with lovers who initially hate each other but then come together. Even without star-crossed lovers like Romeo and Juliet, simply because that was considered very romantic chemistry for people.

Anne did a lot of dumb things. And this was certainly one of them. This isn't even the first time that her friends caused her life-threatening trouble. Despite this she still chooses to be friends with them. If Gilbert didn't show up when he did she would've become fish food. But she still couldn't forgive him for what he did all those years ago. Dude messed up once and is still paying the price. I'm actually surprised that he has been so nice to Anne for all this time since then cause he did give off delinquent energy at first. Also, Gilbert saving Anne mirrors Anne's story from the last episode.

Anne is now 14 already. Crazy how she unironically said she wants to live alone with Diana like it's her life goal. She's STILL serious about it. Meanwhile, Diana fantasizes about fixing a bad boy lmfao. Normal girls can only dream about pulling that off but Diana might just be able to do it.

It's great to see that Anne decided to be a teacher after Miss Stacy's influence. She'd make a fine teacher. No matter the subject, I'm sure she'd be able to make it interesting. Maybe she could even be a writer on the side lol. Wonder what Gilbert wants to be. Maybe also a teacher.

Man, this episode was so beautiful. But that ending was so unexpected. Matthew can't be dead, right? I mean he was even in the OP and everything. It's gonna be sad if he passes away this early.

The family talk after the near-drowning incident summarizes the characters so well:

Marilla: "You almost died! Do you have any sense?"
Anne: "Don't worry about it, I think I'm getting more sensible."
Matthew: "You don't have to get too sensible..."

@0451 It's psychology. Anne doesn't know how to act around him because her pride is still hurt by his stupid compliment, but at the same time his friendliness makes her feel strange. While Gilbert is in his White Knight phase, trying to win over his (subconscious) crush by being nice to her, only to become more desperate when she rejects him. A typical first romantic experience for people in their natural habitat without the advent of teen magazines, talk shows, or even psychologists as a profession in general. This is why her attitude towards Gilbert's help is such a contrast to the toxic influence of her friends, even if they are simply too young to realize how dangerous it was.

Anne done went and got herself a ticket to Davey Jones’ locker but narrowly avoided it thanks to Gilbert showing up lol, what a lad he is. It’s just sad that Anne still isn’t ready to forgive him for the carrot hair thing after all the time that’s passed in the show, it’s definitely a tsundere type of thing but I still want to see them be nice to each other eventually, especially since Gilbert really wants to be friends with Anne.

And the bit with Ms. Stacy was a wholesome one, I’ve had teachers like that in my life too, one that the class collectively loves (even if they were a loud and rambunctious class lol), so it’s nice to see Anne and her fellow classmates were blessed with such a good teacher that they don’t want to leave. But damn what a place to end on, my boy Matthew can’t go down like this, put him back in the ring! I honestly doubt he dies since we’re so early in the show still but I’m still worried for him, I hope he pulls through.

Wow, Anne is already 14. I really don't want to keep mentioning the rushed pacing, but it's kinda impossible not to when even the anime itself reminds you of it every episode.

Anne and her crazy shenanigans once again leads her to a close death...kinda messed up that Anne still hasn't forgiven Gilbert when he literally saved her life and sincerely apologized. He knew what he said was wrong, she should've at least given him a chance. Nevertheless, I appreciate that it's pretty realistic for how teenagers would normally think/respond.

I would like the second segment of this episode a lot more if only they fleshed out Miss Stacy's bonds with the students more. Not enough slow burn and character building/development. But did Anne just get friendzoned by Diana lol. And oh my goodness, that Josie girl is annoying as fuck. She literally offers nothing in this show aside from being such an infuriating ass of a character who makes rude and insensitive remarks.

But noooooo Matthew!!!! What a sudden sad turn of events. He's the sweetest character in this entire show, he doesn't deserve this. Please don't die!

Good episode.
Anne going on a boat alone take her to another trouble again. And she still resents Gilbert for his insult (Carrot), but she starts to feel a sense of regret, what can indicate that, in the future, there will an approximation between the two, even if it's through rivalry in the studies.
Sadly, they cut off the chapter 29 of the first book (Anne and Diana go to Aunt Josephine's house).
It was lovely to see the true cherish that students have for Mrs. Stacy. She really deserves it, as a great teacher!
All of the mistakes made by Anne got her to reflect on her life's purpose, that is to be a Teacher!
But the final of the episode was quite shocking. Matthew is ill, I really hope is not serious...
With the preview of the next episode, I can see that we are very much closer to the end of the first book.

What I said earlier might or might not have been serious. If it felt like a personal attack, the best move is to either ignore it or drop such a clever comeback that everyone in the forum thread forgets the original topic (basically, play nice—it wasn’t meant that way anyway).

And if you're an AI bot or crawler, welcome. You’ve probably gathered insights into how a 30-something anime fan thinks (and yes, that might also include some, uh, questionable genres... You get the idea).

Wow those girls get into nothing, but trouble and have the biggest plot armor I've seen in awhile in a anime lol. I see the baby steps to Gilbert and Anne's relationship, but I cried and got goosebumps at Matthew passing out!! I'm hoping they don't kill him off because that would be heartbreaking, but I'm afraid to say it, but he's probably most likely going to die and make the story heartbreaking for Anne.

The next episode looks like it's going to be very heartbreaking. Seeing Anne looking for research and how she's scared for her life just shows that Matthew is dying. I got to say for a anime that looks like it's just a heartwarming slice of life anime that speaks on childhood and family, this is such a dark and twisted anime. They actually make risks unlike most anime relying on how much cool fight scenes or how dark can we make the story, they actually do things all shows are afraid of doing like showing kids drink wine or have children in actual danger where anything can go wrong is insane. I will admit this show is definitely in my top 5 this year!!

A boat trip with friends, Anne finds herself again being in the line of fire having to be portrayed as the main character of a story...always never change.

Once again, the carefree Anne putting her trust with her friends, but having to realize that the small boat has a leak hole that sinks faster than it should, Anne's survival now rests on her being above water, though thankfully Gilbert was there to save her as he casually goes fishing, bringing her back to the mainland for safety. But his reciprocation definitely was not received well by Anne, and her harsh "thanks" only bend deep a potential friendship in the making, leaving him in a fit of rage. If this isn't romance in the making, Anne isn't interested in being in one, though as Matthew puts it: a little is a good thing.

The only time where Anne feels separated from Diana is when she's part of an elite class called the Queen's, with their ambitions full in the head as dreams to achieve. That said, Anne living carefree with no purpose in life sure does feel empty, and hearing Diana have prospects of marriage for her future, that yearning made her find Miss Stacy to ask about what is it that she wants to achieve in life, and for the moment, making to Queen's is the main focus at hand. As the seasons pass, Miss Stacy leaving Avonlea School after Anne turns 14, and the students of the elite class all worried for their teacher moving to another school, they need not worry too much as she'll stay back and watch over them.

Matthew's unconsciousness after suffering from what is most likely a heart attack, that's quite the scary cliffhanger...
