Well, I don't even watch horror anime. Why bother with it? It seems like low-quality content.

Yeah, I find the MANGAS more scary because the illustrators have time to draw extra gory stuff, while in anime it’s less detailed because they need to use it over and over again. But horror ain’t horror that much to me any more.

True horror is when the MC does something incredibly dumb or embarrassing

Generally. No. Animation isn't scary. Unless it's the Animatrix. Second Renaissance. I could have lived never watching that.

Probably scariest thing in all media.

No, anime is not scary at all, it can be disturbing but never scary in the traditional sense.

Well, that is actually a hard question because a lot of young people don't realize Horror doesn't need to be OUTRIGHT fear. That uneasy feeling you get when you finish something and then realize the implications can be TRUE horror. There are Anime' like Bokurano & Requiem from the Darkness that have deeper implications than just what is on the surface of the Show. The more you think about it, the WORSE it actually gets. Perfect Blue was also a good example.

Nah, anime horror doesn’t really feel like horror to me. It’s more like a source of amusement.

It is horror, it just isn't scary. The very best live action horror movies aren't the ones with dumb jumpscares.

Well most of the horror shows i've seen weren't scary, they were disturbing and had a lot of blood and violence but they weren't scary
In fact most seinen non horror shows are scarier than actual horrors, for example Monster.
That show has such a gloomy and dark vibe to it you can feel that tension from the show just building up
So i think psychological anime do a better job at representing horror because they focus on psychological aspect

I think a lot of people don't understand horror anyway. It isn't always straight up FEAR. Great horror can be very understated and be something that leaves you feeling uneasy by its implications, which is what good horror fiction ( novels, short stories) does. I can think of a few Anime' that actually DO pull this off like Perfect Blue, Bokurano, or Requiem From the Darkness. The middle show really is disturbing the more you think about the issues it raises as it goes on, not just about the kids lives, but the fate of ENTIRE Universes at stake. And the cruel game this thing is. SAO has nothing on this thing.

Some, yes. I will never forget the feeling I had the first time watching Ghost Hunt's Doll House arc and Bloodstained Labyrinth arc, and Shiki under the bed scene.

Unfortunately we do not have many good classic horror anime yet.

@dndlion Disturbing can also be horror, as I said it doesn't need to outright fear. However large body counts tend to be just stupid in the end, why Another fails in it's climax. It should have kept the low-key menace & mystery from the 1st half of the show.

No, it's just a bloodier than usual action or mystery show.
