22 years since the debut of studio Pastel's original anime in Spring 1993 (and 26 of the original manga), one of AniManga's most famous mangaka, Gosho Aoyama, is back with another one of his works, the one that preceded the juggernaut that would be Detective Conan: Wit Studio's remake of Kenyuu Densetsu Yaiba a.k.a Legendary Brave Swordsman Yaiba. What a time to be alive watching both Yaiba and Detective Conan on ytv/NTV after a very long time. Blue Encount's OP is great, nonetheless. The story of samurai Yaiba Kurogane alongside his father Kenjuro and their tiger friend Kagetora while dealing with a gorilla menace in the jungle, only to be mysteriously transported to Tokyo in a crate full of bananas while in retreat. In Tokyo, Sayaka Mine awaiting her father Raizo's return from the Asia Kendo Championship, gets a surprise seeing his eternal rival of Kenjuro alongside his son Yaiba, seeing a girl for the first time. Alongside Kagetora, they all are transported to the Sayaka home where they're greeted by their grandmother Fuji a.k.a Goinkyo, it certainly is a samurai's meeting. And allowing Yaiba to stay at the place through challenging Muto, the little kid sure fights different, but he's been properly trained by his father alright to defeat Muto with such tremendous force and instinct. But if anything, Yaiba is quite the unhinged village kid not understanding the ways of the modern world, much to Sayaka's chagrin to tease him a bit. Of course, things in school are unlike his knowledge, and his naiveity only breds worse for Sayaka, even going into her when she's changing into her dojo outfit lols. But the cheek to take on the demon that is the gifted high school swordsman that is Takeshi Onimaru, that's the beginning of their lifelong rivalry, for better or for worse. Otoha's ED is calm and collected, but good as well. What a start for Wit Studio in the resurgence of remakes (barring The One Piece coming soon). Yaiba will be lots of fun to revisit in its various source material mediums. |

Fire Force? Pfft, get that out my face. Wind Breaker? HAHAHAHAH, no. A remake of a almost FOURTY year old manga getting blessed with one of the most stacked team in recent memory thanks to everyone's favorite WIT? Uh, A MILLION TIMES FUCK YES. No cause, HOLY SHIT, WHAT WAS THAT OPENER MAN?!??! Just flexing the fact that it's the best animated show of the season for no reason lmao. Though ofc, the question always arises when shows like this get this king treatment... does it deserve it? Let's see, ofc. Off the bat though, this clearly ain't your typical shounen.. I mean, for starters, OUR MAIN CHARACTER'S DAD IS STILL ALIVE... AND IS PRESENT IN HIS LIFE AS WE SPEAK. That's not it though, instead of bogus powerups, looks like we got ourselves a typical samurai shounen... if that wasn't already clear by the title btw lol. Premise is a bit wacky, I mean the way we kick start the plot is by Yaiba and his dad getting shipped off to Japan on accident... lol. But yeah, on the motherland Yaiba's dad meetups with one of his past rivals and just barges into his house like it's nothing, and just allows his son to beat the fuck out of one his students... as he proceeds to get drunk LOL. And yeah, I take back what I said about his dad, dude's a certified deadbeat and is NO better than your typical shounen dad. Dude dropped Yaiba off at his rival's house, got drunk... and next day he's gone off to "go train"... xD Which ofc, leads us to the school where our the REAL plot will start at I'm assuming, with Yaiba meeting that bald dude, who, take a guess... hmm, will probably his rival idk, just a guess lol. Seriously man, something about this show just makes me feel like a kid again turning on the TV in the middle of the day to watch this... and hey, I'M ALL FOR IT. So much love is put into this, you can see it in every frame. I love it already man. I'll say it, anime of the season... yes, ANIME OF THE SEASON IS INCOMING WITH THIS ONE. P.S. God, that OP is so fucking beautiful man... I don't see anything touching it. |

A very fun start to this samurai adventure! We follow a young samurai named Yaiba who's living and training in the jungle with his dad. Which it looks like he's lived there his whole life, so that would explain the lack of etiquette and manners he displays throughout the episode. First off I gotta praise how good this show looks! Every movement is smooth and pristine. The action scenes all are captivating to watch and vibrant. Wit studio really pulling out all the stops, even the art and lighting looks incredible. Never a dull moment. Secondly the characters are fun, its an old school 80s style of anime comedy. That makes sense because its from that time period originally but I think its translates to the 2020s well. I'm sure some will think its just crude slapstick and I can already hear the comments saying that the story doesn't deserve the production but I don't care. Its fun and entertaining. Yaiba is a goofy kid who doesn't know basic things but he's literally grown up in a jungle fighting jungle animals. He's not your normal kid so judging him as one is ridiculous. Its a classic fish out of water scenario. The other characters are cool too. Sayaka will definitely be a fun foil for Yaiba as she deals with his antics. The main rival of Yaiba made himself known at the end, with a sinister name like Onimaru too. Absolutely looking forward to more of this samurai legend! |

This feels like an old saturday morning cartoon. Bright colors, animals with big smiles, exaggerated facial expressions and an overall child-like artstyle. Even tough it has some real smooth and energetic animation, I kinda felt indifferent while watching, it didn't hook me at all. The humor feels outdated, too. I hope it gets a little darker and mature in future episodes. But right now, there are no real hints that it will. |

The setting is a little bit similar to Ranma 1/2 which was published around the same time. People at that era are so lucky to have many quality manga (but I still think the present time is always the best). From the author of Detective Conan aka Case Closed, but could Yaiba actually be his best work? This anime will decide my opinion on that. |

I never saw the original anime, the remake looks pretty good so far I especially like Conan author's style and it works well on a shounen battle anime, I don't really know where this is going though but we'll see, the Tokyo landscapes look great so far and Yaiba seems strong, even though the bald guy is even stronger. |

After the announcement of this remake I tried to watch the original anime but didn't like it at all but this one looks soo good not only the animation but also the overall direction and the characters looks far more interesting. I like the fact that Wit is taking creative liberty in its story telling, they rearranging or changing certain scenes which felt out of place or awkward in original series. |

This one was already on my watchlist, and if I’m not mistaken, it’s also by the same author as Detective Conan, Kaito, and Lupin. Super solid debut, just like the trailer promised — and on top of that, the production quality is clearly above average. I didn’t watch the original, but I was really curious to check out this remake. It has that classic 80/90s shounen vibe, which is a big plus! But only 10k members on MAL is really low |

The 2025 Yaiba remake is here (remake of Kenyuu Densetsu Yaiba from 1993). And of course it's an A-tier adaptation as it's animated by a top-tier studio. I watched 26 episodes of the 1993 version, and I really wanted to like it (and I did like the first few episodes), but it was just too childish compared to other shounens, and it was clear that it was targeted towards very young children mostly because of the talking animals that appear later. And it's very rare for me to think an anime is childish and that I might be too old for it, but this is one those anime that wouldn't appeal to teenagers and adults. This remake will probably be the same. This first episode is slower-paced but mostly the same as the first episode of the 1993 version, except that in the 1993 version, Yaiba's father didn't tag along with Yaiba when going to Japan, and Yaiba and Onimaru first meet at the airport instead of at school. And yeah, it's by the creator of Detective Conan, hence the same artstyle. |

@utopica Nope. I watched the original and it stays goofy and silly throughout (goofy villains, etc). Remake will most likely be the same. |

For a while I had been going on an off about watching the original Yaiba anime run. It was from before I was born so as a kid I hadn't heard much about it other than it was decent enough for the time. Then the remake got an announcement so I decided to wait for it in order to get a veredict. Good thing I did so. Yaiba is so full of action and energy in this single that it really takes a concept from that time and translates it to modern day. Unlike the Urusei Yatsura remake that leeft me a first impression characters constantly shouting this one has less of that and more snapping frames with angular and spiky characters going at each other. It's charaming in its execution even if I think the opening went very fast and it sets the goal of samurai quite early on. Oh, and while it has some quirks from 1993 I can let them pass so long as nothing major comes to light. Well, it's still the first episode but it hooked me quite well. |

Wit Studio >>> THE ANIMATION FCKING SHT! This is a passion project through and through from the start to the OP and ED, everything is so beautifully animated and SO FLUID. It’s just the first episode, and while there wasn’t much story-wise, it totally feels like an 80s anime which it is of course because it's a remake. The energy of MC reminds me of Goku and Luffy. Not much is going on plot-wise, but I’m sticking with it for the visuals alone holy man, it’s been a long time since I’ve seen a passion project like this. The start of this show was hilarious—getting shipped from the jungle in a banana container to a city airport in Japan! Little Yaiba has never seen the world outside the jungle, and now he’s got the chance to experience city life. I’m not surprised Sayaka is the first girl he’s ever seen—it totally makes sense given how he was raised. The anime looks promising, and I’m sure it’ll get more and more interesting with each new episode. |

Classic Kameda. Super cool animation. This is Kameda's passion project, so I have been looking forward to it for a while now, and I'm liking it so far. Yaiba is cool and an airhead. Many funny moments were there in the first episode. Sayaka is super adorable. Looking forward to more of her. Basically, what a 90s show would feel like, it felt like that. It was very enjoyable. |

Great animation, good music, good opening, better than fire force episode 1. THIS IS HOW YOU START A SHOW |
