It's a double length special but they managed to add content such as demon slaying, world setting, etc. Idk how to feel about Jinta though. His personality is kinda boring but seems to get along with others especially Shirayuki. Also, got to see some of his childhood too. Other important characters such as Suzune and Shirayuki are introduced as necessary as part of the cast and relationship with Jinta.

Some of the demons seem to be interested in Suzune. The demon that confonted tried to manipulate Suzune and tbh, I think she's not mentally stable with her demon side. Shirayuki confesses her love for Jinta in the first episode already. But yeah, plenty of time to tell more of the story. This first episode had way more character interactions than I expected.

Considering this was not only delayed by quite a lot, but this is also by the infamous Yokohama Animation Laboratory... oh an this is two cours as well? Yeah, expecting a lot more delays than just that first one lmao. But hey, at least the drawings are though!

Though, is the story at least good enough to make this stand out other than the production issues to come? Well, best way I can put it, is that this gives off major Sengoku Youko vibes from a couple seasons back. Funnily enough the MC in that one is "Jinka",,, and bro here is "Jinta" lol. Oh did I also mention this was a 50 minute premiere... jeez. At first, the main premise though, seems to be your classic "I swear I'll become strong to be with you soon!" setup, and he does fulfil that, becoming her guardian thing or whatever...

But there's also the fact that the said girl our MC was becoming strong for didn't get married twenty minutes in lmao. We got a confession shortly after though at least! He tries to hide it, but I mean, you can clearly see he isn't happy with the whole thing. So what better way than to take your anger out on this big buff demon.... While the said girl he got mad for gets fucked by the guy she just married... And ofc his sister isn't happy about this. Shit, I'm on the demon's side here, KILL HER NOW. She had every right to do what she did.... but to kill her IN FRONT OF JINTA HIMSELF...WHAT THE FUCK??? It'd only be natural for him to go just as, if not crazier than his sister, as it's revealed that he's now officially a demon like her AND BEATS THE FUCK OUT OF HER...

AND WOULD HAVE DIED... if it wasn't for miss demon taking the hit... when she herself was the one advocating for one-one-one's just minutes ago lol. So yeah, after this, you can tell what the setup will be... REVENGE against his own sister.

It's an interesting start, for sure. I can kind see where this'll go, and I'm interested to see how they'll go there, so yeah, I'm in!

The Spring season has officially begun with novelist Moto'o Nakanishi's completed series, and Yokohama Animation Lab's 1st 2-cour series (albeit delayed from Summer 2024 with production issues) will certainly leave some thoughts to be desired.

The abused children of Jinta and Suzune finding themselves a better life at the Kadono village, meeting kids like Shirayuki and adults like Motoharu teaching him swordsmanship to tackle against the demons trying to consume a demonic sword, having taken the lives of the Itsukihime and village sentinels protecting it. And a timeskip which sees the grown-up Jinta protecting the new Itsukihime that is Shirayuki, Jinta taking care of Suzune can be a pain at times, though she's relievedly lively.

Shirayuki just being herself brings joy to both Jinta and Suzune, no matter the times the trio have shared amongst each other in their growing-up years. And despite both Jinta and Shirayuki being together for most of the time to the point of love, her arranged marriage to Kiyomasa to bear a successor is tantamount, with Jinta being very focused on being the sentinel to protect her, they share the same thoughts and are birds of a feather.

The sighting of demons, as well as Kiyomasa not understanding why Jinta would allow someone like him to have Shirayuki for himself, comes to a head when the demons attack the village, and a lady demon visiting Suzune being the same brethren, only to show her the foresight of things that are about to happen that concerns Jinta, 170 years into the future, with her demon eye. Suzune being the demon of all demons of Kadono village if she's not killed sooner, as Shirayuki almost saw herself being raped by Kiyomasa (to then reverse it on her own stipend), only for the lady demon to intervene together with Suzune to see the betrayal she wasn't hoping to see. The emotional manipulation from the demon only made matters worse when Suzune evolves into her demon state and kills Shirayuki, only for Jinta to evolve into a demon state himself and exterminate Suzune for real.

The demons having fulfilled their purpose to drive the Kadono village into ruins, Jinta's efforts were all for naught with Suzune's escape. And leaving Kadono village is what Jinta must do, becoming the owner of the Yarai and being renamed as Jinya. The village chieftain being to blame for the tragedy that befell his own village, and Jinta has no choice to but use the demons' 170 years of foreshadowing, to connect both past and present together.

What a brutal hour-long premiere, but at least it sets the story going for this arduous journey.

Curse you, Suzune. How twisted and dumb was she? F
They did kill Shirayuki for real!? Jeezzz

The final part of the episode was very interesting. Jinta has acquired the demon power, so it means that he can live a much more longer life similar to those demons. The guy who wearing gakuran should be Jinta, who lived through different eras. And the miko could be the reincarnation of Shirayuki.

btw, the Tenpo era was a period that spanned from 1830 through 1844.

I saw some potential in this anime while I watched the PV, but it got ruined with the janky animation. I am not expecting Demon Slayer-level animation; just making the action scenes smooth would be a lot better and more watchable. I always watch new animes with an open mind, but I can't watch an anime with this animation for 2 seasons. NOPE!!

A pretty solid start to the story with established character introduction and clear motivation.

Though, the janky and inconsistent animation would be the bane of this series if it stays that way...

Well good news is that it was a really good premiere episode, but bad news is everything shown in the trailers was from this episode.

Concerning since it could mean that its the most they have done so far much like Zom 100 trailers only contained eps 1 material. But it may and this is a stretch that they wanted to avoid spoiling anything beyond with what was shown with the time skip at the end.

Always up for giving studios a chance and not expecting it aint gonna be a bumpy production, but at least they will deliver well enough. Also felt the subs had a lot of forced swearing,is it Hidive taking liberties again?

The animation in this series is really, really good, and I’m loving the plot.

Suzune and Jinta had the worst father—he hated his daughter just because she was born with the Demon Eye. After leaving home, they were taken in by Shirayuki’s father, who treated them like family. Wanting to repay his kindness, Jinta followed in his footsteps and trained under him to become a Sentinel. Meanwhile, after Shirayuki’s mother passed away, she decided to become Itsukihime, just like her.

Suzune had feelings for her brother, but since he loved Shirayuki, she chose to suppress her feelings for his happiness. That didn’t make it any easier for her, though. (Personally, I wouldn’t mind some sister-leveling <3). Sadly, the Clairvoyant Demon took advantage of her emotions and manipulated her. Watching Suzune fully turn into a demon was heartbreaking.

I know none of us wanted to see Shirayuki getting close to Kiyomasa, but both she and Jinta were simply following the paths they chose. And honestly, Kiyomasa isn’t a bad guy—he liked Shirayuki but also respected Jinta’s feelings. That’s why he only made a move when Jinta wasn’t around, and he even tried to protect Shirayuki with his life.

Jinta might have handled everything better after Suzune killed Shirayuki, but after fusing with the Assimilation Demon’s arm, he himself started developing demonic instincts. Meanwhile, Suzune completely lost it—after even Jinta abandoned her, she decided to destroy everything. Now, Jinta must embark on a journey to stop her… by killing his own sister.

I knew tragedy was coming as the episode progressed, but it still hit hard. The story itself is great, but I wonder—will the next episode start with the modern timeline?

A premiere with great potential that already caught my attention just from this 50-minute episode—I’ll definitely keep watching. At first, I found the time skip between scenes a bit strange, but it made sense later. The protagonist just wanted the best for his sister and Shirayuki, but the demons conspired against him, using his easily manipulated sister. I didn’t expect the protagonist to turn into an Oni and end up facing his own sister. I’m really curious about their fate from here on.

Just for fun, but the protagonist looks like a buffed-up Naofumi with the name of Sengoku Youko's protagonist, and his adult sister kind of looked like Holo lol—just without the ears and tail.

I should say this is a nice build to start. We have the world build, characters story, main problem, and the direction of this anime, all explained quite well.
Although I find the MC personality kinda boring for the first episode, I have some expectation how they will develop the plot and the characters.

Glad to see the unfinished shots from the PV were done properly for the airing. Great episode overall, though some content was skipped. Would have loved to see the Kiyomasa sending manju for Suzune and making up with Jinta scenes. Anime makes him look like a total jerk without any redeeming qualities.

@Szabesz Ah, it's good to know that Kiyomasa is better characterized in the novel. Honestly, you could see that he wasn't completely ireedemable from his last 2 interactions with Jinta and Shirayuki but yeah if they added these scenes it would make him even more sympathetic.

The anime isn't bad at all, in fact the first episode was pretty damn good. I honestly don't know how to feel about the ntr shit, it grossed me out, happy it's over.

It seems that this first episode was just a prologue, and the real story has yet to begin. Going to keep watching this, looking forward to the next episode.

I could smell a big tragedy outcome from the first minute of this anime so I'm not sure why I continue to watch it despite my hatred toward tragedy but here we are.

As soon as the word 170 years in the future appear I immediately know that it'll be a timeskip (To clarify: I haven't watch any trailer or poster or even sypnosis of this anime before watching the first episode), and I'm glad I'm right. The fact that the demon living inside our protagonist is a big hint though since he can live a very long life.

It's a classics story about the fight between the human and the demon, but in this anime, the humanity is actually quite clever and, dare I say, compassionate. Yes, Jinta and Shirayuki are big example of selflessness, but I also want to mention Kiyomasa, who, despite a cocky personality, ask Jinta again if he make a right decision, and Kiyomasa's father admit his mistake to Jinta. Not sure how human's moral will change after timeskip but it's a good sign so far.

And yes, this is Yokohama Lab's best work so far, it's not even a debatable topic even if I think Majo to Yajuu, their second best work, is already looking quite good.

@JayTCU a lot of wannabe critics nowadays complains about the animation. In my case, the 50minute ep was very immersive almost watching a movie. When in the climax of the ep I thought the story will end with conclusions but then the story progressed. Definitely will watch the next ep.
