Unlike Vista, Windows 7 features a kernel that acts like a virtual machine. Meaning that software and games designed for Windows XP actually run on a Windows XP kernel.

Other reasons for you to switch to 7 if you currently run Vista:

  • It's a lot faster
  • It's a lot more stable
  • Multithreading has been applied much more efficiently (multiple threads don't slow each other down as much as they used to, you will notice this a lot when booting)
  • It's safer than XP due to UAC (which you have familiarized with in Vista)
  • Has more features than Vista and XP (although it can't be said if you will use any of them)

All together, it's the Windows XP of this age: bullseye for Microsoft.

Nobody had any reason to like it. The fanboys are simply acting because new always == better, or something along those lines.

Yea windows 7 kicks ass, after using XP and before that 98 for a long time, I can easily say Windows 7 is the best windows OS to date. Well for me anyways.

Vista's the most defected thing Microsoft could and did come up with.
My laptop's giving me a hard time and i've already asked a friend to install windows 7 on it. Lets hope it's as all the above comments say it is.

Windows 7 is god tier. Many old Windows 98 games that wouldn't run in XP or Vista for me are running flawlessly in Windows 7.

Its exactly as Chavez said with a little correction. Windows 7 are for absolutely no reason more stable than Vista (at the moment at least). There are a lot of bugs with many programs and drivers and some malfunctions. Although everything getting fixed fast.

Well besides that i also have Windows 7 and i love them so yeah i definitely suggest you upgrade :P

From a guy who was on Vista since near the beginning and made the switch to 7 about a month or so ago, I'd say it's totally worth it. Vista was ok, don't get me wrong (certainly nothing to write home about), but Windows 7 bypasses all those annoying compatibility issues that always seemed to creep up whenever I was installing an older program. I haven't had a problem yet installing anything with 7. But then again, my programs are pretty run of the mill - mostly just old games.

Anyway, I'm jumping on the Windows 7 bus and saying go and buy it. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised with most of the changes.

the speed increase is incredibly noticeable. it is more stable...its not vista, although vista never did me wrong. if you have vista, you definitely need to upgrade. unfortunately if you didn't reorder it, you have to pay the full price. payed 50 bucks for mine :P

From an incompetent user perspective, I love it. Have it on the desktop. Have it on the laptop. Things never ran so smoother before.

It does not crash omg.

Hated Vista, love Windows 7. I actually find general usage to be faster than XP on both my laptop and desktop. I also find my laptop battery life is better on 7 too, which doesn't really make sense.

I was all about the XP bandwagon, and definitely anti-vista.

Vista had nothing that was better compared to XP, besides maybe some prettier interfaces...even then they left much to be desired.

I think W7 is give or take a direct upgrade. I was weary at first of trying it, after what happened with vista. Fortunately W7 doesn't disappoint.

Vista was a good OS, Win7 is even better. It's totally worth the upgrade, but make sure to go 64-bit. And if you have old programs that won't run, there are options to solve to problem, XP-mode for one, or if you're a little more advanced you could snag a copy of virtual box, or some other kind of virtualization software.

im using win7, and it was the best OS i have used since win98...
just give the PC the best kick of RAM(4gb) and it performs to full optimization and efficiency with this OS...
currently im having fun of the advantage using its XP mode, thus win7 works best as a 64-bit OS...
so far so good through the microsoft history, the flagship-quality OSes of its generation were:
1st gen- win 3.0/3.1
2nd gen -win 98
3rd gen- win xp
4th gen- win 7

Had a lot of problems with Vista on a daily basis.

I'm still having problems with Windows 7, but it isn't as bad as Vista. For instance, I can now play Diablo II again, YAY! And I cannot fix the "DwmHintDxUpdate could not be located" error.

But I like it ^_^

I can watch my porn in piece now with windows 7

I use quite a few of the features, also

DX10 and above are going to work better on a win7
Aero preview tabbing is a must
Finally have sticky notes
Groups all the same files that are open under one tab (specially helpful with browsers and file exploration)
Has yet to crash on me (I've had it since launch and no problems) [knock on effing wood]
Dual/Triple monitor friendly (all the screensavers actually travel across the screen instead of mirror)
SSD friendly (recognizes that i have a solid state drive and actually runs so fast its almost incomprehensible)
ROTATING BACGROUNDS!! (i dont have to use some 3rd party trash that takes more space in my taskbar)
Pin stuff onto the toolbar for things i use alot at the time.
Faster access to Task Manager

Theres alot more im probably forgetting but yeah all the little addons i had to install personally on xp and vista come standard and runs better on 7. So i am enjoying it
