| Advance screening event. https://sakamotodays.jp/news/article/?id=123 In a season with an award-winning manga being picked up by ENGI, you'd think that would be the most controversial anime of the season, no? Well, look no further than the second coming of Blue Lock Season 2, TMS' Sakamoto Days... sigh. I picked up this manga a while back after a friend recommended it, and I can say that it was probably one of the most fun I've had reading a manga in recent memory. So, to see it being given this treatment... yeah, it's not cool. But for now, let's go over what this show is even about. Think John Wick... if, after getting married and leaving the hitman life behind, he got fat, had a kid, and became the owner of a grocery store. Yep, the plot is as simple as that. Until one day, someone who used to work for our loveable fat blob Sakamoto, Shin, comes with the mission of killing Sakamoto. However, as loveable as he is, he can't really do it. But ultimately, he does return to do the job, leading us into our first action scene. Though, not really, since there was another action scene at the beginning of the episode, which did give me a glimmer of hope... and, I mean, it wasn't THAT bad, but for a show like this.. it deserved better. I'd rather not be fully negative, but yeah, it was... average. I mean, it was better than all the stuff before that was actually the epitome of average for, mind you, a BEST SELLER IN SJ RIGHT NOW... Though, to be fair, the earlier parts of SakaDays are pretty lighthearted and SOL, mixing action and comedy, which is pretty fun. Having more physical action without supernatural powers is something I wouldn't have expected from SJ when I first read it and even now watching it. But yeah, shit happens, and we get another action scene, which was just... yeah, I'll stop beating around the bush, you know what it was. Don't know why but it felt super long and was DECENT, so there's something... But yeah, with Sakamoto beating up the bad guys, Shin has joined our boy Sakamoto... as an employee in Sakamoto's shop... xD Yeah, I'm not very optimistic in the very least about this adaptation just based on this first episode alone. Don't even get me started on that OP.... thanks, TMS :) |

| I mean.. I feel like people overreacted with the OP. Animation is kinda ass, but combined with the song it gives early 2000s vibes. Think everyone just so used to the JJK, CSM, etc style of OP they forgot how shit used to look. I know manga fans were upset with the initial trailers, but I liked this opening episode. I don’t have anything to compare it with in terms of manga chapters, so just going in blind and it was a fun time. Def worked for me as anime only. Sakamoto might be the first fat dude with aura? Love a good badass former hitman tries to leave the life only to be forced back in story. All the complaints from fans online had me thinking this was gonna be ass and it turned out great. Yea the animation ain’t JJK or Solo leveling, but it was solid. I like Shin and Sakamoto and the fight choreography was great too. Nice little introduction into this world, characters and the sort of thing we can expect. Even though Sakamoto wants to protect these mundane everyday vibes, I don’t think his past will let him. Shin being able to read minds and telegraph opponents is dope as well, wonder if we’ll see any other supernatural abilities! |

| I mean this should’ve happened at least a year ago already, but okay, better late than never. Reading this for a good time now and yeah, always knew it would get an adaptation, and yeah as I already said it took it sweet time, so yeah, I kind of already forgot that during the initial phase of this series, Sakamoto really used to speak a LOT LOT less than he does now lol. Shin used to be our translator lmaooo. They did the intros right, and yeah it may feel like a joke or something how someone like Sakamoto, who they’re referring to as a legendary assassin, became the way he is now, but yeah, there’s a long story. We’d see a lot of characters with time and will know a lot about the past as well. Popping off a bullet with a candy is crazy insane, though that’s how innovative this series is with its action scenes lol. Shin failed and yeah being the part of the family he became, his enemies will be Sakamoto’s enemies. Heavy action from the first episode itself, and yeah this is what this series is about. LOOK AT SAKAMOTO'S COLLECTION, I MEAN! I liked the first episode, but yeah, the biggest problem this series would have going forward is the sub-par animation. Can’t lie and can’t pretend it looks like how we all wanted it to be, I mean I know not everything should look like Fate, but still, the kind of series this is, it deserved a bit better. For now it kinda works and is passable, being very generous. I like this series so just want to see few of the scenes or the characters animated, but yeah, I just hope they’d up the bar. |
| Of all the hyped Weekly Shonen Jump adaptations, mangaka Yuuto Suzuki's Sakamoto Days is one to look out for...but Vaundy's OP released before the anime started will remain divisive for a love-hate relationship. In actuality, Vaundy's OP isn't all bad, it has the Asian Kung-Fu Generation vibe of the early 2000s. Conton Candy's ED is just decent though... The greatest hitman of all time, the man going by the name of John Wick...er, Taro Sakamoto, he's to be feared and admired by everyone, but gave everything up for love. And the fatso of himself, along with his wife Aoi and their daughter Hana managing a convenience store, to be noticed by Shin the Psychic wanting him to come back to the hitman profession, Sakamoto may have all but faltered for the 5 years he'd gone, but his skills doesn't relent...in being the handyman around the town. It's almost comical that Shin doesn't believe Sakamoto would fall this hard, and attempts an assassination on the spot. Shin attempting his all to restrain Sakamoto, but it gradually becomes clear that the old man is still powerful, even with a family to protect, something that Shin doesn't get to experience once in his life. And with that realization, he can only go back to his group in shame and fight against his boss and henchmen, all while Sakamoto knows exactly what's going on to help Shin out by bugging his gun. With as simple tools as wooden chopsticks to stop gun bullets and a taser, Sakamoto shows that he's still got it as the greatest hitman, and hiring Shin as a co-worker in the convenience store as well. At least Shin got to work with Sakamoto, just not in the way that he expected. TMS Entertainment's production doesn't actually seem so bad, but this being a spiit-cour series doesn't bring about the most hope... |

| The direction of this first episode went as I had expected: started off as a flashback and changed to the present day time for Sakamoto and his family. I kinda like the animation style tbh. I mean, it's not overly groundbreaking but still expressive. Shin got plenty of screen time from this while Sakamoto displayed what he can do like you'd expect. I know this got a 2 split but feel like they'll need even more episodes to cover the ongoing manga. It's a solid start imo, as it highlighted the fundamentals of the premise. Both theme songs are good, with the ED having a slightly more emotional vibe imo. |

| That was a ridiculously fun first episode. Sakamoto might be an obese family man now, but it doesn't seem like he's lost his edge. Animation could have been better though, but it seems like they're pressed for time, what with the second part coming this summer, so I don't expect much. |
| People hyped this show up. After reading the premise, I thought I'd watch it. It's basically like Spy x Family which I love. And the first episode was great so I have no complaints. It's weird to see complaints about animation. Sure, it might not be Science Saru or Madhouse level but it still looks fine. Ya'll are spoiled way too much. |

| The legendary assassin, Sakamoto Taro has a family now. So, he has retired but he hasn't lost his touch at all. Shin who was tasked to kill Sakamoto couldn't do it and was touched by his family's hospitality and is now working at Sakamoto's. Pretty chill job if you ask me. Looks like more assassins will be coming after him but he's ready. Th action was pretty cool. And, it was cool to see the creative ways he was fighting against those minions. Good first episode. The OP and ED, both musically are bangers. |

Coach Anzai is back Except for One Piece this currently my favorite Jump manga. Got the perfect mix between goofiness and kickass action. Judging by some snivelling comments you would expect an atrocity, which isn't the case at all. |

| Really enjoyed this premiere, Although I can see why manga readers are on a fence. I haven't read the manga yet so I'm looking forward to enjoying this on its own. Action was good but I can definitely feel that corners were being cut here and there which is not a good sign especially for the first episode but oh well. Yuki Hayashi hitting us with the MHA music, I knew it was him when I heard the soundtrack. Opening is a banger and the ending kinda good too. |

| Prime candidate for top new anime of the season is here! I don't know why people are complaining about the animation, I like the slight texture on the characters. I has a unique almost old movie feel, its own visual identity. It fits well with the story! |
| I had heard that the manga was very good, so I didn't want to miss the anime adaptation. Despite the recent news and complaints about the animation, though they turned out to be an exaggeration. I enjoyed the first episode, and I liked the animation, the OP and the ED, not to mention the comedy, which was also good. Some people expect everything to follow a pattern, especially with Shonen Jump adaptations, but not everything will be like JJK or other similar works. This first episode was fine, and those complaints are probably exaggerations for future episodes. As for the chubby John Wick, I mean Sakamoto, he seems to have become even stronger after his retirement. He used to kill like any other assassin, guns and all, but now he blocks bullets with chopsticks or deflects them with candy. Although this trope is familiar from other works, it still seems cool. |

| Didn't think the simple act of pointing to a "Thank you, please come again!" sign could be this powerful. Shin for Sakamoto's life to be spared in the literal next scene was the cherry on top. Both the action and slice of life blend so seamlessly. Can already tell this show is gonna make for comfy viewing. |
| Probably the best on going manga, or I'd say my favourite. This adaptation is not going to bad, but neither is it gonna be good or bring some hype to it. Dandandan on the other hand got transformed from something great into something greater with its adaptation. This won't elevate the sourcle material at all, but bring an average adaptation. Welp, they could have atleast put a stronger director on the serie. I'm still gonna enjoy the story on its own as it is a manga I have been following since 2020-2021. I can't hate on Sakamoto. By the way they took out the gun disassembling scene, it just shows the level of TMS Entertainment. |
