I've been MAL user for a few years now and seen animes that go on number 1 spot but fell behind FMAB sooner or later, but Frieren has stood over it. And that made me think does frieren actually deserve number 1 spot is it that good? I don't want to say it's overrated because i personally think it's good show and has amazing story but i feel something missing. It was something else when it came but now later on reflecting on it I think it's for me solid 7-9 but for most 10 (but not 1st). ps IDK why i made this but I want to see other peoples opinions on that. And why is One piece fan letter 3rd?? |

| I would say no for me, but mal score is about appeal to the largest audience. Frieren hentai is great though. OP letter is at the top likely for sequelflation. A lot of haters to long running anime drop leaving the fans to score the later seasons. S1 gets rated by the general audience even those outside the target demographics. |

| @Maurice_5 I get what your saying but mostly what I hear is that either they Love frieren or its mid. And I therefore I think frieren has many glazers as fmab May have too, but frieren has more of them. |

Contrary to lower ratings which get too influenced by people due to being too "generic" or overdone which tends to make any of the following shows go a bit lower.
High ratings are very fair.
Good story, good pace, music played well with the scenes, characters were likeable unique funny moments, battle scenes were well done, the first 10 i gave in a good while.

| @Raina0h yeh that's a fair point but I think kthere are many who don't think its 10 but rates it 10. This is just my hypothesis. |

| pros - what I always say: the right mix of action and contemplativeness to appeal to both young and expert anime fans - top tier production value cons - recency bias - the % of positive reviews is much lower than any other anime that stayed close to the top for more than a decade - it isn't a complete story The cons make me think that it won't keep the n°1 spot forever, but personally I do believe it is better than any other anime that ever reached n°1 on MAL in the past (Your Name, AoT, FMA & FMAB, Death Note, Clannad AS, Gurren Lagann, Gintama). nachomasa said: And why is One Piece fan letter 3rd?? I think the rankings are best thought of as average opinions of this website's userbase, and nothing further. Frieren had a pretty massive shill push shortly before the anime aired.
But, just for future reference: MAL aggregate ratings indicate either the popularity or the presence of a shill campaign for a certain show.

| I don't know, I've seen many titles trying alongside with my favourite to be in top 1 for short-quite a while. I personally am not a big fan of fmab as I've rated it as an 8, I have around 200+ entries which I like more, so that should tell enough what is my opinion on fmab being in top page x). I personally enjoyed Frieren a lot as someone can spot it among my favourites. That's one of the shows for which I can't just nitpick, even if there is something wrong I ain't even paying attention for that. |

| I personally enjoyed Frieren very much so I think it certaintly deserved the spot, still no matter what anime will be nr.1 - people will always argue about it. I love FMAB, but when it comes to rankings something was meant to "overthrow it" some day, maybe the rating will stay, maybe not, time will tell. |

| Whether you personally like Frieren or not you can't deny that it's a solid show in almost every way. The story starts strong and ends in a reasonable way with an obvious continuation on the way. The production from the art, animation, and music are all top notch. The story is well told and isn't predictable since it's the aftermath of a hero's journey. You could try to claim it's recency bias but if that were the case I could think of shows that would have surpassed FMAB by now. Especially since FMAB has flaws that shows like Frieren don't have. Also lets not pretend like a section of FMA fans weren't 1 score bombing shows that passed it in the past not because those shows deserved it but simply because they wanted FMAB to stay number 1. Is Frieren my personal favorite anime of all time? No I actually gave it a 9 because it's a great show but it didn't quite crack my personal favorites. However I think it deserves to be in the argument for the top anime on the site and if I'm being honest as good as FMAB is I think shows like AOT and Vinland Saga had surpassed it already and they should have been able to have a fair shot at the top spot. It's all a popularity contest at the end of the day though so I wouldn't take the rankings too seriously. I just find people who 1 score bomb shows they know are good to keep a show they like more on top to be annoying. |
