We've had enough of seeing everyone else, but now it's back to the main event itself, GARP AND AOKIJI THEMSELVES. Though, ofc, we have to this dude Koby... Did he learn anything in the two-year timeskip? Doflamingo said it best: power equals justice. Dude over here tryin talk-no-jutsu his way out of here like this is Naruto or something... ????

Poor senile Garp had to take that blow, but just because he senile don't mean he weak, because they clashed in the MOST BADASS WAY POSSIBLE, LEGIT DESTROYING HALF THE ISLAND, JUST SHOWING HOW FUCKING OP THESE TWO ARE AT FULL POWER. But not without repercussions though.. poor Garp man. Garp isn’t going to die, I’m sure of it. He’ll likely retire and let Koby take over in the final arc, but for now, he's good... I hope.

JUSTICE WILL FUCKING PREVAIL.

Koby becoming a liability at this point stinks. Bro fell for the cheapest trick in the book, even tho his CoO is supposedly one of the best, lmao. As a captain he should've been calm enough to use it. Bad plot contrivance moment just to weaken Garp. Rather make the Titanic Captains look a bit more competent in combat. Shiryu catched a W there, yet it's actually not all that when Garp jumped in his way to stop him.

The exchange with Kuzan was still epic. Kino episode. For all it's flaws anime manages to make the important bites more emotional...most of the times.

Lets gooo, they did this quite good, still too many lights going on though.

Something that i noticed that wasn't done as manga was in the initial meeting of kuzan and garp in the flashback kuzan hits actually didn't make much noise but over time he became same as garp's. This was only shown with the visuals but in the manga you can see the differentiation in the power from the sound it made as well.

garp's was always "BAM!!" while kuzan gone from "pow..." to "thud.." to "BAM!!"

Another fantastic episode revolving Garp and Kuzan, so many amazingly directed scenes, I loved every part of this episode
The flashbacks with Garp and Kuzan, especially that insanely fluid one, were all really nice to see and make it all more emotional.
Another classic post break week episode

A lot of detail in those flashbacks, that's a big plus! Added a lot to the anticipated showdown, I'm looking forward to the next round of that.

Isle-isle devil fruit seems like a formidable power too.

Coby's got to deliver at some point...

Insane animation for Garp vs. Kuzan in this episode! But Avalo Pizarro using the offensive abilities of his Isle-Isle Fruit powers was such a terrifying sight! Combined with appropriate soundtrack, those final moments with those humongous island arms sent shivers down my spine! 🥶

Poor San Juan Wolf didn't even get to do a thing. 😅 That splash should have caused a tsunami. But dammit Shiryuu! 😡

The animation in these episodes following a recap special is always so damn good, and Kuzan vs. Garp continues to look amazing. Next week, we'll be blessed with yet another moment that I've been wanting to see animated for a while now 🙏

We start in the past. We see that Garp and Aokiji using battleships as a punching bag. OH MY GOD WHAT AMAZINGNESS! Just what you’d expect from The Fifth Emperor’s grandfather and his first pupil. We learn from Commodore Brannew that they are called Battleship Bags. Did I mention that NO HAKI WAS USED.

Back in the present, Sanquan Wolf wakes up and he tries to pick a fight, but Garp intercepts him and takes him down with one punch. Vasco Shot tries to take a crack at Garp, but her Drunken Spitfire backfires as Garp creates a new move called Pirate Fireballs. As the title suggests, he uses the pirates as his personal bombs and throws them at the other pirates. Garp gets a report that everyone has been evacuated, and Garp has everyone retreat.

Unfortunately, Kuzan is standing in the way, so it won’t be that simple. Koby sees what looks to be another slave, but it ended up being a trap. Shiryu flies at Koby using his Clear-Clear powers, but Garp is able to save him and he gets stabbed in the process. Koby is guilty, but Garp lets him know that he wasn’t the target. In other words, Shiryu wanted to hit Garp specifically. The other pirates really think they can take on Garp since he’s injured, but at least Aokiji isn’t that dense.

On his way to fight Garp, Aokiji freezes all the nobody pirates as the two clash.

In the past, Aokiji begged Garp to train him, but he refused. Instead of giving up, Aokiji used a Battleship Bag along with Garp to earn his respect. We then get this cool perspective on the clash before we see how Garp complained to Aokiji about Luffy wanting to become a pirate.

The two hit each other and the two are down on the ground. Hibari wakes up, concerned about Koby, but Avalo Pizarro makes a declaration about how the world will remember this as a battle in which he crushed the Navy with his Isle-Isle powers as his giant hand is about to crush the ship. Garp tells Koby that justice will always prevail.

In the ending segment, we learn that Aokiji September 21st and likes coffee, dairy milk, and sherry wine.

I’M HYPED UP FOR THIS!

I don't remember Garp pushing Koby out of the way. That was a change from the manga. Still a cheap trick but at least it answers all the complaints about why Garp didn't see it coming. Garp is the man though. 100%

After the chapter, I wondered how many guys in the military tried using decommissioned ships, planes, subs, etc. as punching bags at least once. I bet some have and more will now.

I need somebody who can love me at my worst
No, I'm not perfect, but I hope you see my worth
'Cause it's only you, nobody new, I put you first
And for you, girl, I swear I'll do the worst

If you stay forever, let me hold your hand
I can fill those places in your heart no else can
Let me show you love, oh, I don't pretend, yeah
I'll be right here, baby, you know I'll sink or swim

Really liked when this chapter dropped a year or some ago and thought how cool garp was to nullify a few of ten commanders in no time. Thought he tossed San Juan to the water but that would be hard to visualise and animate lol, also I think Shiryu didn't get up on both his legs after garp throwing him, in the manga I thought he knocked him to the ground looool

But someone said in here that they turned 5 mins worth of content into 20, they been doing it since end of fishman island but at least these days when they try and do a good episode they do a whole chapter. Even thats better than 0.8 of one chapter we got a lot of times in Wano. But I agree this chapter felt packed back then (it's ch 1087 battleship bags), but very slow and kinda stretched out with so many drama shots of everyone reacting to garp doing shi and getting stabbed in the anime. But it had some good fluid animation cuts, I didn't like kuzan harp impact just because of over colorization ahahah but the animation of flashback leading up to it was good. Some neat stuff but ye

Dude, I have to disagree. I'm not a fan of One Piece's usual pacing as well, but this episode didn't suffer from that problem, imo; it was great throughout.

It's just a theory, but the 1 ratings may be due to fans of certain french (I think) animator that works on the show. His scene (most likely Garp vs Kuzan punch) was heavily cut down by Toei and he was upset about it on twitter. Wouldn't be surprised if his fanboys decided to act like children and downvote the episode.

Wow, this is cinema: Garp vs. Kuzan! The animation is top-notch movie even when Kuzan and Garp are talking. We saw some flashbacks of how Garp and Kuzan trained together by punching gigantic battleships without using Haki or devil fruit abilities. In the present, Garp just one-shotted Wolf, who is several times bigger than normal giants, sending him flying into the ocean. If it hadn't been for Koby falling into their trap, Garp would have beaten Kuzan and all the Blackbeard captains. Garp got stabbed by the invisible Shiryu while trying to save Koby, Koby is just too naive and weak still. Garp has advanced conquerors and armament haki vs Kuzan has advanced armament haki and his Chily-Chily fruit by imbuing his fist with ice and both of them end up punching each other in the face. Kuzan doesn't seem to have conqueror's haki he is just using ice as a glove which he calls the technique Ice Glove. Now Pizarro uses his Isle-Isle fruit to form a gigantic arm using the island's land to crush the nacy ship, Garp and Koby really need to save them. I can't wait for this fight to continue in the next episode.

Exactly, so much unnecessary effects with all those light shows and dbz sounds is just ridiculous. Just because you add a shit ton of beams, lightings and whatever the fuck, it doesn't make it the best thing ever.

We get to see Fullmetal and Jango again after so long. They joined the Navy too.
And the strength of Garp never fails to impress with one punching the literal gigantic San Juan Wolf, and then almost neglecting the damage done by Shiryuu, being the beast he is.
It almost stopped my heart while seeing that though, giving real Ace flashbacks.
Crazy how the lowlife pirates think they could get him now.

A lot of great animation and fighting this episode.
Specially loved the parts with Garp and Aokiji's flashback, showing them bonding with each other throughout the years with the different events happening around them. It really was a special relationship. And it is heartbreaking that they have to face each other like this now.
But, back then, nobody could've imagined that one day we would get an admiral fighting another admiral character. This truly is the final saga, as cheesy as it sounds.

At least one of the Blackbeard captains did manage to make a good impression now with Avalo Pizzaro. Remains to be seen how he will be stopped as Garp seems to be out of commission.
While Vasco Shot failed to make an impact.

Overall, actually a great episode!

A high quality reminder that Garp can't catch a break, and Kuzan knows this. Koby... you're his last hope. Koby has been such a major disappointment this whole arc, however next episode looks like he'll prove he's the next Garp.

4/5, felt drawn out, but really liked it. Pica-chu 2.0 is as annoying to me as Pica-chu 1.0. I really hope Kuzan comes back a good guy later. Dragon is a good guy revolutionary, Luffy is a good guy pirate, I believe in you Kuzan!
