I can't relate, this season I am watching Oshi no Ko (20 minutes a week) and Yuki cute moments (0-7 minutes a week depending on how Yukicentric the episode is).

Only watch the seasonals that you know you will like, so watching them don't feel like a chore but rather an enjoyment. Like bro nobody forced you to watch 22 seasonal anime and Im sure you didn't enjoy some.

or

Wait until they finish airing and then binge them.

think about all the anime in my PTW list

Don't make your PTW list too big then. You are just giving yourself too much pressure to watch everything when u dont have to.

Just drop those or don't even start watching those which you either feel you won't like or may even actually be into, but are just not in the mood for right now. For example, last season, excluding continuing pre-spring 2024 series, I watched 17 new series as far as seasonals go, which is my most ever (spring of 2021 was close). This current season, I don't consider it a dismal or lacking season by any means as some suggest (though there are essentially people who say this for every season out there), but I'm still only watching 11 by comparison. And there were only two series I sampled with intent to possibly watch this season but chose not to (Wistoria, which I watched a few minutes of and could tell would not be to my taste at all, and Shoushimin Series, which was actually quite good in several respects but I also had reservations about and just decided I may watch in the future, but wasn't in the mood for at present).

That's an example from my watching experience to say, in other words, "Why watch any series that you don't absolutely feel in the mood to watch and continue with over the next few months?" It doesn't matter what other MAL users mention or recommend, or consider a good and worthy series, nor anyone else online or anywhere in your life. Your time is your own. It's not a social obligation. It's not a profession you're being paid for. Only watch what you actually deem to be rewarding to you in return. And just because you opt not to watch a series at this exact moment, it also doesn't even mean the series is bad or that you will personally find it bad and dislike it. It may be a show you end up watching down the line in the future. Perhaps even one you end up adoring! But why exactly does it have to be watched now?

And also, on a side note, I also don't understand the mentality harbored by those who are watching seasonals who feel compelled to have to watch a series on the day it airs either or even immediately after it first drops online. I honestly don't even do that for series I really love, would rate highly, and actively look forward to, because I guess time is more fluid to me and I don't see the difference between watching it now on Thursday versus on Sunday or next Monday when I'm really ready. Ready as in mentally/emotionally set and in the mood to be pulled back into that world. As a result, some series I end up watching the day they air or the next day. Others not until the following week or I even get two, three, four, five, six, or more episodes behind. Who cares? Watch them and everything else whenever you want at your sole discretion and leisure. Sometimes I start a series, watch the first episode or two, know I want to continue, but not right now immediately and don't end up coming back to and finishing until nearly the end of the season or even well after the season is over. Some non-seasonal series I've watched, already concluded airing years or decades before I started watching them, I watch over the course of many months or even over a year or two or more in some instances!

I think that thinking more outside the box about the inherent pure flexibility of your watch schedule would benefit you and some others immensely. It's something to be manipulated and altered on a whim.

Just don't watch anime unless you actively want to watch it at that moment. Don't let anything other than "I want to watch that" dictate when you passively consume something for fun.

Take a break or try not to watch too many at once.

From my experience, most seasonals aren’t that remarkable. Besides sequels, I’d say stick to 3-4 new ones at most. Typically, you won’t find more than two stand-out new series in any given season. There are a few exceptions where you'll want to watch more because many good shows will be airing at the same time, but that's like one season every 2 years, and that's probably too optimistic

And if a great season appears with many good shows to watch, just prioritize the "most important" ones, and the other ones for later. But that's something quite rare these days. At best, you'll encounter a season like this once every two years.

There's no point in watching seasonals unless you're looking forward to them. I like having a few new aired episodes to look forward every day, even more so for series I love.

Also, keep in mind seasonals also take time that you could be watching other things you enjoy more.

Look at the season list and limit yourself to picking only 5 or 10 shows that interest you. Then, when you watch them, you'll decide if you're actually interested or not.

If all shows interest you, great. If only some, then you've already filtered out things that may waste your time.

Just watch the stuff that genuinely clicks with you or catches your interest instead of just watching something for the sake of watching it. A lot of people in the anime community seem to feel that they need to watch like a certain amount of shows a season when in reality, watching so much all at once, especially if it isn't keeping your interest, will burn you out rather quickly

Good management and a postive attitude are essential. Make a daily schedule and stick to it: don't leave for later anime you can watch in the morning. Don't think of 22 episodes a day, but create instead short-terms objectives that you can achieve, such as 5 episodes before midday. Try to reduce the number of times you pause each episode, and also set a limit to the time you spend doing other things between episodes.
At the same time, keep in mind your long-term objectives: you're not doing it to enjoy it, but as part of a process and to improve yourself, to accumulate a really solid Watched list that you can be proud of in the future. Every episode is a step along the way, and you need to remember you're making progress even if sometimes you temporarily lose sight of the goal.
One day you will be happy you didn't slack off at this formative stage of your career.

You simply have to watch what you actually want to. If it truly feels like a chore drop it. At least that is what has worked the best for me. Some time ago I used to watch 5 or 6 seasonal anime at the same time and it felt like it wasn't worth it most of the time. Now I watch only the things that I truly feel are worth it and I feel much more free.

@rohan121 spbp. The whole "chasing after what's popular" mentality is what's killing anime.

As a fellow seasonal watcher I get where you are coming from. A lot of these anime aren't great, but their premises are legitimately not bad. At the same time, some of my favorite seasonally watched anime are those that I wouldn't have picked up if I was significantly limiting my options to less than 10 per season (ex: Girls Band Cry, Dungeon People, Viral Hit, Cherry Magic, Migi and Dali), and most of these picked up significantly after the first 3 episodes. The nagging thought of missing out on a gem is real. But I think there are some signs that can help you identify if something is not worth your time:

- This is pretty good, but I'm not vibing with it really --> Drop if this lasts at least 2 episodes in a row
- Multiple writing flaws over the course of several epiosdes --> Insta-drop
- Only thing hooking you is the premise --> Insta-drop

Most importantly, do NOT look back. At least until the season is over, then perhaps you can try to see if it a show might be worth your time by judging reactions and asking if things you didn't like get changed. But for the rest of the season, just let it go. If it lives in your head, then ofc the rent will burn you out.

Limit Your Watchlist Instead of trying to watch every new release, pick a few shows that genuinely interest you.
Don’t feel obligated to keep up with the weekly schedule. It's okay to watch 2 episodes the same day next week..

Mix Genres To avoid burnout, try watching different genres. Switching between action, mystery, comedy, drama, and slice-of-life keep things fresh for me .

I Take Breaks from anime if I'm not feeling it and I read manga or watch Jdramas, western mysteries recently and western comedy movies and I also Engage in other hobbies like Formula 1, soccer nba Basketball, and activities like playing sports myself to recharge..

Last week I didn't watch seasonal anime, instead I finished the Mallorca files tv show.

Drop anime You Don’t Enjoy If a show isn’t capturing your interest, don’t hesitate to drop it. Watching anime should be fun, not a chore.

Don't make it a chore in the first place.

Avoid watching too many seasonal shows.

Choose what you want to watch and don't worry about catching up.

Take your time.

But if you turn it into a chore, that's on you.

"Drop what you don't like" is an obvious advice, the problem (and I guess your problem) is when too many seasonals are just watchable, neither good nor too bad.

What I can tell you is my experience: this season's Sundays started feeling like a chore, so one day I decided to drop Fairy Tail, Tower of God and Wistoria all at once. They were all barely watchable, I know I didn't hate them because otherwise I would have dropped them right after finishing their latest episode, not in the middle of the week while thinking back about them. Maybe I wouldn't have dropped them in different circumstances, but what matters is that I feel better this way and I don't regret my choice.

Sounds like you're overloading your brain with so many different stories weekly. You don't need to keep up with everything all the time. If you're worried about spoilers try blacklisting tags and such until you've caught up. When you're watching so much stuff in such a short time you're not letting yourself fully enjoy the story.

Try cutting back how many episodes you watch in a day little by little, they'll all still be there by the next week, don't rush yourself, and most importantly stop thinking about "missing" episodes or "falling behind", watch at your own pace, keep up with the anime you like the most and leave the ones that interest you less for later on. Watching anime should be a hobby and not an obligation, when you feel like it's getting tedious to watch, cut back on it a little until you find a pace that's actually enjoyable for you

I don't understand the mentality of liking anime means you have to watch every anime ever made. WTF. Consuming content don't lead to anything being accomplished at all, you're not getting a medal, an award, recognition or money for doing it. And you clearly aren't even enjoying it, it's a chore. So why

If it’s become a chore, then just stop. Actually pick shows you want to watch, not shows you want to want to watch, and can actually make time for without making viewing a chore. Even if that means none.

It might be worth explaining to everyone why you actually need to do this: watch 22 shows, up to date, even.

Most people are saying (rightfully) to just drop some stuff, but maybe you have reasons you can't do that? Social pressure, maybe? Or is it a job?

If you don't have a good answer, I would suggest you start by asking yourself why you do this.

I don't know, maybe try watching only shows you're actually interested in and drop the rest.

I'm watching around 15 this season, but that's still only equals around an hour and a half of my time each day before bed, which is perfectly doable and not at all chore-like.

I once tried keeping up with 3 weekly seasonal shows and just that was enough of a pain in the ass for me, lol.
Quit watching seasonals ever since then; i dunno how people manage to juggle like 10 weekly shows or more without burning the fuck out.

I much prefer to watch completed seasons/series at my own pace & leisure. Home releases of anime tend to get visual improvements anyway, so might as well wait some time and watch the better version.
