Just drop those or don't even start watching those which you either feel you won't like or may even actually be into, but are just not in the mood for right now. For example, last season, excluding continuing pre-spring 2024 series, I watched 17 new series as far as seasonals go, which is my most ever (spring of 2021 was close). This current season, I don't consider it a dismal or lacking season by any means as some suggest (though there are essentially people who say this for every season out there), but I'm still only watching 11 by comparison. And there were only two series I sampled with intent to possibly watch this season but chose not to (Wistoria, which I watched a few minutes of and could tell would not be to my taste at all, and Shoushimin Series, which was actually quite good in several respects but I also had reservations about and just decided I may watch in the future, but wasn't in the mood for at present).
That's an example from my watching experience to say, in other words, "Why watch any series that you don't absolutely feel in the mood to watch and continue with over the next few months?" It doesn't matter what other MAL users mention or recommend, or consider a good and worthy series, nor anyone else online or anywhere in your life. Your time is your own. It's not a social obligation. It's not a profession you're being paid for. Only watch what you actually deem to be rewarding to you in return. And just because you opt not to watch a series at this exact moment, it also doesn't even mean the series is bad or that you will personally find it bad and dislike it. It may be a show you end up watching down the line in the future. Perhaps even one you end up adoring! But why exactly does it have to be watched now?
And also, on a side note, I also don't understand the mentality harbored by those who are watching seasonals who feel compelled to have to watch a series on the day it airs either or even immediately after it first drops online. I honestly don't even do that for series I really love, would rate highly, and actively look forward to, because I guess time is more fluid to me and I don't see the difference between watching it now on Thursday versus on Sunday or next Monday when I'm really ready. Ready as in mentally/emotionally set and in the mood to be pulled back into that world. As a result, some series I end up watching the day they air or the next day. Others not until the following week or I even get two, three, four, five, six, or more episodes behind. Who cares? Watch them and everything else whenever you want at your sole discretion and leisure. Sometimes I start a series, watch the first episode or two, know I want to continue, but not right now immediately and don't end up coming back to and finishing until nearly the end of the season or even well after the season is over. Some non-seasonal series I've watched, already concluded airing years or decades before I started watching them, I watch over the course of many months or even over a year or two or more in some instances!
I think that thinking more outside the box about the inherent pure flexibility of your watch schedule would benefit you and some others immensely. It's something to be manipulated and altered on a whim. |
