Quite the eye opening episode, gave us a lot of info on how the process of adapting something to a different medium plays out, Abiko Sensei might be overstepping but it’s understandable that she’d be fed up with the way her story was handled, but at the same time it’s understandable how it turned out that way. I felt especially bad for the scriptwriter GOA, he was even accused of never having read the source material but he’s actually a day 1 reader and tried to make something great and made whatever changes were requested, it’s just with all those middlemen he didn’t make the right changes and was made out to be the villain.

Now that’s not to say there aren’t shitty scriptwriters out there, but that’s not the case this time. But all that being said, I’m sure whatever script Abiko comes up with on her own is gonna be something amazing, the OP hints at it as did the very first scene of the first episode, so I’m looking forward to what it looks like, maybe she can dual wield pens like she can toothbrushes lol. And as much of a fan I am of Akane, gonna have to go with Aqua on the plays thing, I even have a friend that’s an actor in plays and it’s a profession I have a lot of respect for, but 99% of the time I’m gonna choose a movie or anime over a play, although I do think plays are cool, I’ve seen some myself, really it’s all a matter of preference. And I’m sure Akane is gonna show Aqua a play and his eyes are going to pop out of his skull, but it’s not gonna convince any of us watching this because it’s still an anime for us lol, but hey a date with Akane is a win no matter what.

@Mrcl1450 It is but even though I don't like the series much, this arc in particular is still one of the more praised arcs I think among fans of the manga. It is a slow build but obviously still a lot more to go in getting the stage play sorted out and obviously, imagine Doga Kobo has something really special visually with regards to the stage play itself in some episodes so expect more notable stuff to happen beyond these two episodes soon.

Well we get a decent episode with more structured depth insight of how storywriting/scripts work for productions. Surprisingly the scenes i was mentioning were skipped in the previous episode were shown in this episode with a rewind (found it a little odd tbh) which were kana and aqua arriving at the studio reperesenting strawberry productions, them meeting melt and introduction of other la lalai members with akane. The spicy stare off between kana and akane as well :3 Taikis actual introduction as well along with his fame.

I like melts change of character this time, more humble and dedicated willing to learn the tropes and improving himself.

This shot was cute and hillarious ngl kana getting all angsty over xD

Coming to the author, akibo sensei is a cute oddball indeed (the double toothbrush scene was something else) but even though shes successfull with her works shes still inexperienced and glad that sweet todays author is helping her and she understands how the production process can be chaotic especially if the author themselves get involved so it will be a big issue with someone like akibo sensei who lacks the expertise.
This eventually came true as she now wants an entire rescript and revision of the play. I actually felt so bad for the scriptwriter who gave his all but i also understand the viewpoint of the author whos more emotionally attached to their works and wants the end product to be as close as to the original to show what they tried to portray. But the management chain and link from the author and producer is so hectic and complicated lot of things get left out causing issues mainly the communication gap. Plus akibo was so adamant about her work that she was willing to pay the contract breach fees as well it does feel childish not knowing the actual real time repurcussions. I felt even further bad for the scriptwriter knowing their position and job is so much vulnerable even after putting so much work. Glad that the producer took care of him and consoled as well.

Now since the script is going to be rewritten we have a break, Aqua apparently has less knowledge of theatre and akane wanting to share her passion of it to him takes aqua on a little date to see a play. Lets see how aqua learns from all this.

Ouch... That's how suicides and mass depressions happen. When you give your all, don't sleep properly, all to complete the job you think you did well and then the guy in charge calls you amateur or worse...

Mangaka makes sense too. I wouldn't want my creation (often seen as the author's child) to be bastardized. *cough* Disney/Star Wars *cough*.

In Japan, there was an incident about six months ago in which the manga author committed suicide due to a dispute between the manga author and the drama production staff.
This episode had been the subject of a manga two years before that incident......

I gotta say, I'm actually 100% with Abiko on this one. She sent multiple requests for script revisions that were essentially ignored, and that can be incredibly frustrating as a writer. Like I feel sorry for GOA because he wasn't given correct information to make the revisions, but he did make sweeping changes to the characters that he really shouldn't have made, even just to make things fit his vision of what the audience wants. The long line of bureaucratic horsepiss is exactly why I fully intend to be directly involved with any adaptations of my own work, assuming I actually allow any - if there's no beancounting middlemen trying to tone me down, then it'll be clear what my feelings on the matter are (which would have saved everyone in this episode a lot of trouble).

boring episode.. and I don't like theatre for similar reasons as Aqua..
also why Aqua got some strange red hair at the back of his head?! around 3:15 minute when that guy I don't even remember talks to Aqua and Arima?

all that was said about differences on original manga/light novel things and theatre play/anime is known to any anime fan so why waste so much screen time for such things? is it to explain the situation to ignorant or stupid people? This makes me feel the manga/anime creator thinks the audience is stupid... and now a date with same reasons... starting to look like educational anime even more than first season...

I guess this is what happened with High School DxD Hero.. someone in production from Passione ruined the show.. but also someone wasn't happy with previous TNK studio that made my beloved High School DxD previous ones

Okay, the "inside the media industry" part of OnK is nice, i really apreciate this, way better than the original "mushoku weirdo babies" of the premiere.

But this episode had a "filler" feeling.

Did somehow.. someway, someone couldn’t write the script correctly here as well, like whatever the fuck happened with this stage play? I mean these intros and everything should’ve been there in the first episode itself lol. I actually found it weird last episode when there was nothing leading up to these characters rehearsing, of all things, whilst introducing a bunch of characters with colourful fonts.

Anyway, being passionate about your work is one thing, but being so and moreover insulting others when they don’t match your work ethic is straight up stupid. This author is one such person, but hey, since this an anime of course people would accept her demands for a complete redo of the script lol. That in any case whatsoever doesn’t happen with projects in real life. There is a lot of capital invested, a lot of time invested… nobody could just come and ask for a complete makeover of the script when the thing is already underway. Felt for that scriptwriter tbh. Also, this one thing is straight up impossible when we’re talking about things getting produced in japan… see THEIR HISTORIES WITH LIVE ACTION ADAPTATIONS LOL. If the mangaka had so much say, the landscape would be different altogether. But hey again, this one mangaka isn’t normal by any means, so yeah lol… she was even willing to pay xD
@Softhenic03 yeah ig thats one of the reasons Yariko sensei keep quiet of the LA adaption of her manga..

I hope the scriptwriter will get another chance to rewrite the script, this was really devastating, too harsh and unnecessarily rude, especially considering how much he actually cares about the original work.

What happened to the screenwriter was quite sad. I liked how they adapted the thoughts and decisions of everyone involved in the direction and adaptation of the work. From the first season, they showed us how the staging of this world of show business works, and now they show us the problems or conflicts they face in making adaptations. This not only covers theater but also directly all types of adaptations. It's a bit sad to see that there are many unsung heroes behind the scenes who aren't fully appreciated by us viewers when we enjoy our favorite manga or novel in formats like anime, movies, or even theater.

It's somewhat amusing to think of it as a cry for help from all those who work and shed sweat and tears to present a decent adaptation and end up like this.

Alright, I will be brief. I spoiled myself yesterday and I am really interested in how this story is gonna end, so I will be starting the manga soon or after season 2 ends.

Really enjoyed speedrunning the first season, Akane is my favorite heroine. Don't really like the new opening but the new ending is fire. See you at the end of the season.

Season 1 OP and ED are top of the line. It's a shame the shows not on crunchyroll.

The economics of doing and organising a play is depicted so good as a viewer, I became invested as to what would happen next and what developments happens with the producer, playwright, and original creator. It was entertaining and sad to watch it happen as these kinds of things would happen to the process of making an episode of anime or this episode.

I already found this season's most hated character. And that is this Akibo Sensei. Really felt bad for the Playwriter. And I felt it so weird that all were going with the mangaka's whim. Cause the original author has very limited say on what would the reproduction look like once they give away the rights. Thats why the movie "The Shining" was very different from the original book. And it is popular and critical opinion that the movie was better. Anyway, it was a good episode. But I hope that sensei comes to her senses fast.🤨🤨🤨

This episode is full of controversy between the author and the media adaptation team, of course, there will be changes in the script based on the adaptation from manga/novel to match the time frame of the respective media. This is not the first, we have seen this in the Sweet Today drama, they changed the story pacing to just 6 episodes with poor acting from the cast.

I actually feel bad for the scriptwriters, who are doing their best for their respective media and not getting enough credits.

But going so far as to humiliate the scriptwriter in front of the casts and the team is not acceptable.

If you have problems with the work try to solve the problem with the concerned person or team, I mean what's with the attitude of "let me write the entire script" and "I don't need payment. You can leave the scriptwriter's credit and pay him as usual"

Are authors can even say stuff like this? I am confused.
I agree. Although the senior mangaka said that Abiko is socially awkward, I think she is actually a bully. I agree that the middle managers were in fault but there is no excuse for her behavior.... but unfortunately there are characters like her in real life. They do not get any empathy due to their arrogance although they are very talented and hard at work. But the producer could have dealt it more professionally..... Abiko just got away by abusing a well mannered man (GOA). .

The scriptwriter should've just contacted and communicated with the author directly instead of going through all of those middlemen. Surprised they hadn't even talked to each other before the process began.

I think it was explained that both the scriptwriter and author had packed schedules -- scriptwriter was juggling other shows, while author works alone and releases weekly -- so I infer that they couldn't find a common free time to directly communicate.

That said I agree with you, one or both should've found a compromise and matched the other's free time, since they cared so much for the end result. I personally think the onus on this one should've been on sensei, if she could make time to meet her senpai and watch the rehearsal, she could've done that beforehand too with consulting the scriptwriter face-to-face. But that's just my opinion, feel free to rebut or call me trash over it.

This anime started as a mystery/thriller anime with an idol sub-theme. Right now, it's fully a propaganda for the various Japanese multimedia outlets & deep dive on the life of actors with NO attention whatsoever to the original theme. I'm quite disappointed and bored by how things are going.

another average episode but feels bad for the scriptwriter man. won't blame the author to get mad either. everything was just very unfortuante for the scriptwriter. i can imagine just how shit he must be feeling after all the efforts he put into the script. sucks big time for him. hope he recovers from this soon.

i guess now it is finalized that the whole season is gonna cover the play. and now i just know that the play is gonna kick ass at the end. the author is gonna make sure of it and the actors are all top-notch as we know.

this new plot is all good but i hope they don't sidelines the whole aqua findign his father thing etc
