Another episode where there is nothing to write home about. He lost control of the kaijuu power now, but next episode he will regain control again. In the end, kikoru's father will recruit him. The same typical stuff.

Only 1 episode left, I wish that something unpredictable and amazing happens, and saves this series from becoming another average shounen. But I'm probably expecting too much from this series.

I like the part where Levi Taichou started beating the shit out of Eren to prove he is either safe enough to handle even in his Kyojin form or won't be much against the Taichou himself.

@postblitz I felt exactly the same

If general Shinomiya gets bodied by kaiju no 8, its so deserved. What he's doing is like pointing a gun at someone else with a gun and saying, "I'm gonna kill you because I think you're a criminal, and if you shoot back then I know that you're definitely a criminal." All living beings have self preservation hardwired into them, it takes a lot of training and discipline to not fight back when your life is threatened.

Good for you that you were able to enjoy it. But I have seen enough anime/manga series to know that the series is following the same generic and predictable route. If this series came out 9-10 years ago, I probably would have enjoyed it more.

My doctor has always told me to smoke. He even explains himself: “Smoke, my friend. Otherwise someone else will smoke in your place.”

Personally, the traditional shounen route I expected it to follow was Kafka refusing to attack Isao until the very end and then being accepted. Him losing his control and the introduction of the Kaiju parasite were pretty unpredictable, but maybe I just haven't seen or read much shounen. It does leave a lot up in the air in this critical moment that we've found out it is possible for Kafka to lose control when he was never supposed to. Up until now, everything was fine with his transformations.

He's being tested and the issue with control only comes out now of all times what a great timing. Now he's gonna definitely will be neutralized lol. Anyways, the maggot kaiju inside him is kinda vengeful of other Kaijus, I am intrigued.

Shinomiya Senior, equipped with weapons made from the body of Kaiju 002, is taking no prisoners! I am legit scared for Himeno since he's been put in a no win situation - die as a human or live to become a villain.

At some stage the survival instinct from his system kicks in, and then, ARGH a cliffhanger, WHY!

To me it seems like this show is devolving.
It started with an interesting concept with a middle-aged man from the clean up crew, but neither his age nor his profession matter much, so far.
The world felt mysterious and almost scary like AOT, yet now the MC is mostly fighting opponent after opponent like, dare I say, HnK!
Kafka was almost fully in control before and only now he's starting to lose it?

In general, the vibe I'm getting from the show is that it wants to be a generic battle shōnen with a little above average animation.
There is nothing wrong with that, but it's hard for anime of this type to get something more than a 7/10 from me.

Profession does matter how'd you think he found out about the reproductive organs stuff of the mushrooms in the past episodes and also why he's the only one stating ideas or whatnot about Kaijus. it's because he was a clean up crew before. Oh and also he was in full control before and is only losing it now because oh i don't know because he was actually about to die??? He practically lost most of his limbs and doesn't want to fully transform cause he wants the general to know that he's human. The monster has got to step up or they both die. I don't know if y'all noticed but this anime is basically a mixture of parasyte, godzilla, and AOT.

@Kloweugh I know that he found out about the reproductive organs because he was in the clean up crew, but my point is that the story structure would have been identical if he was a 15-year-old who studied a lot about Kaijū so that he could rise up the ranks and stand by the side of his childhood friend who was recognised by the former Captain, or something like that.
What I was trying to get at with my comment is that the fomula this show uses to drive the plot is the same as every other generic battle shōnen with a slightly different coat of paint on top.
We've seen clichés like bosses appearing suddenly and the MC losing control of his powers when he first tries to use them willingly, but that's the typical beginning of a battle shōnen story. Good battle shōnen stories would then deviate from those clichés to differentiate themselves.
Kaijū No. 8, on the other hand, started with an interesting idea and has been relying on clichés more and more lately.
That's what I mean by the phrase "the show is devolving".

(Note: In case you didn't understand what I meant when I said that he lost control, I was referring to his bevavior after he transformed, not the time it took him to transfom in the first place. I thought it was obvious that he didn't want to transform to prove he was human, so I didn't mention it.)

Right, now i get your point. I do agree at some of your points it's getting predictable for real just like some animes I mentioned it felt similar to (Aot, parasyte) so it's nothing new and I don't really have high expectations. Some animes use cliche cards very well I'd hope this is one of em, still it is too early to tell I might have to read the manga at this point.

We simply had the beginning of the battle Kaiju eight and Isao Shinomiya, man the commander's face is scarier in the manga, but the scene of him using the weapon numbered two and Kafka losing control and transforming into a kaiju was incredible and he had an epic fight. for the closing next week, and it was incredible to see that everyone was missing Kafka, especially Kikoru and Ren, including the daughter trying to help by talking to her father but without success and Ren keeping an eye on him because in the future he will finally make his dream come true what is ? just read the manga hahaha but it's so worth it. KAFKA IS A GOD!"

It's frustrating that most anime watchers have the same take

"Oh he loses control, it's so predictable"...

Not everything has to be "different" or "unpredictable" to be good.

Predictable writing makes things easy to follow, not every show has to have a deep complex plot to stand out.

If you pay attention you'll notice that a lot of links are being established now, especially the clear fact that Kafka's Kaiju form seems to respond to the Daikaiju in Kaiju #2 made weapons/suit in front of him. There are so many questions that need answering, like why the Kaiju that infested Kafka is interested in the destruction of other Kaiju?

Was Kaiju #9 the one that killed Shinomiya's mother? The straight up unwillingness to negotiate with "Kaiju #8" shows how much resentment Shinomiya's father has towards the Kaiju. A lot of backstories that are waiting to be uncovered next season!

I personally like the bond that Kafka has formed within his division, and it shows by how they support him. Although they may not know the details of why he is the way he is, at least it is unanimous that they understand he risked it all to save them from that explosion, and that in itself portrays his human nature above all.

Can't wait for the last episode, enjoy this season while it lasts!
@guitargeek94

You hit the nail right on the head. I certainly wasn't expecting the Third Division, along with Mina, to stick up for Kafka the way they did. When the end of episode 10 happened, I immediately thought of that infamous trial scene in Attack on Titan. You could argue that we're still getting something like that here, but there are some key differences—mainly the fact that Kafka has a lot more support compared to the few people who stuck up for Eren.

From what I'm seeing, some of these commenters may be unable to properly read between the lines, be it from their young age or a general obsession with "cool action sequences" without substance. So when they do see something with substance, they often don't know what to think.

Kaiju No. 8 hasn't been perfect. I wouldn't call it groundbreaking by any means, but it utilizes the Shounen formula very well. Heck, it's almost nostalgic. What these folks need to understand is that EVERY trope under the sun has been done before in storytelling. What matters is how the writer decides to use it in their own story. And that decision will either make or break a series, as we've seen time and time again.

Anywho, I'm curious to see how this season ends.

braindead retarded fucking generals. for a moment i can understand the doubts but after all the cooperation the way kafka was pushed to the brink was such a retarded move. if the shinomiya general dies now he deserved it 100%.

really liked mina supporting kafka and finally acknowledging him as childhood friend kafka and not a recruit.

The end of an era. Thank you Wit, Mappa and Isayama.

I don't know how to feel about using Kaiju to make super weapons. I'm not one to get political but there is a reason why Americans have never been fans of spending money on making these giant type of super weapons. I remember reading about how Ronald Regan wanted to make a space weapon system back in the 80s during his second term.

Getting off that this was a fun episode I don't think this is a 9 or 10 but it will get a good score. I like this show but it is slightly above average shonen it seems no matter how this ends.

What an episode man. No good deed goes unpunished. Kafka saved their ass and still gets locked up and treated like a criminal. At least it’s good to see the third division still respect him and see him as one of them, but the top brass aka Shinomiya’s dad want him out of here.

It only took Kafka getting arrested for Mina to finally talk to him like they know each other 😂 I’m sure her assuring him that he can still stand by her side was some big motivation for him.

This whole episode gave me very strong Incredible Hulk vibes with Kikoru being Betty Ross and Isao being thunderbolt ross. I find it hilarious that he says anyone who can stop a bullet with their arms isn’t human, yet he uses Kaiju number 2’s power himself. Just as hypocritical as general Ross in the marvel comics.

Kafka showed as much restraint as humanly(pun intended) possible in the fight but there’s only so much damage even he can take before that dawg, or in this case, Kaiju, in em wakes up and comes out. “You finally showed who you really are” uh yes mf because you tried killing him 💀

This is really interesting though because even against Kaiju numbers 9 and 10 his body didn’t feel threatened enough to do this. Wonder how he’ll bring it back under control.

Also, speaking of Kaiju number 2 was that not a modified Godzilla theme they played during that Sapporo flashback?? I got hype as hell lmao. I’d love to see what the other Kaiju 1-7 were like too.

Animation went craaazy during the fight and what a cliffhanger to leave off on. I’m very excited for next episode which I believe is the finale? Need that s2 confirmed

The kaiju inside of Kafka seem to desire to kill another Kaiju, making him losing his control.

Eveyone in division 3 can only pray for what will happen to him, highly likely he will be the lab rat for the military purpose and they will be using him when its convenience.

So basically survival instincts took over and he became a real Kaju. I loved the animation for when he started running at him full speed. The sigh of relief I had when I heard Mina say Division 3 still cares about him and doesn't see him as an enemy had me smiling. These guys need to stop with these cliffhangers after the last episode I thought they all hated him. Her dad is strong strong but Kafka is stronger. All he needs is that One Punch man punch and it is game over.

It was honestly so precious that he said "can I still stand by your side" and she said "yes." Like wtf.... I know it might seem cringe and gushy. I shouldn't have to justify. This show balances extreme consequences alongside hopefulness really well. It takes the silly elements from Naruto and the very austere elements from NGE, and meshes them together so well it's a constant roller coaster of emotions. Some people might say the show's humor is a little dumb, but honestly, once you get through most of your 20s beating yourself over the head about the trajectory of your life, you start to wonder why you didn't just enjoy yourself and live to be happy in spite of all the things that have happened and will eventually crop up that will put you in a dour and dark disposition. I think this is the perfect show to watch if you're Kafka's age, late 20s to early 30s. And I look forward to season 2.

I thought the rest of his team would despite Kafka for keeping this a secret but to my surprise, I’m glad they acknowledged everything he’s done to help as the old guy.

They sign of salute from the task force as he was departing was touching. Nice finesse on the Vice Captain’s part towards his superior.

It looks like the Director has a grudge towards to Kaiju for the murder of his…wife? I wonder if it was humanoid Kaiju that caught them by surprise or just a regular Kaiju that killed her.

I didn’t expect him to come out as personally equip himself like that and become such a menace! Kafka had no choice but to transform out of survival instinct.
I really hope Eren - I mean Kafka can regain his senses and show the Director that he fights for humanity!!

As stubborn as the Director is, it might take the Director nearly getting killed for Kafka to nearly transform back and show mercy, since Kafka could never bring himself to kill a human.

I’m betting my next paycheck on this ending.
