Well most of the episode was a recap, but Brooks fight was sorta interesting.

I liked it but I was rather disappointed that it was mostly a recap. But on a side note is it just the power of the attacks that force brook to his knees? I mean does he even feel pain?

I agree that is was very nostalgic, so I didn't really mind the recap at all. Brook's fight was pretty good as well.

Next episode should start things getting really interesting :)

That recap part was in the manga too, and the nostalgic part, combined with the young crew retelling the story of the cape to the recent crewmembers was great. Not boring at all. They did overdo Franky's happysad expression, but all that did was move me even more. I almost cried with him. What a great episode. And it'll just get better.

And Sanji catching fire out of pure rage. Oh, I know I'm gonna love it when he thinks about that marriage again. Gotta love that rageful expression of Sanjis. c'',)

The only good thing I got out of this episode was this...

Has anyone else noticed that Nami's figure is noticeably hotter than it was in the flashbacks?

Very nice!! XD

You guys are all crazy

This episode was great. So nostalgic. Even though the recaps was kind of unnecessary you have to remember this was sooo long ago and probably alot of people forgot it by now. Very depressing backstory. I like all the other crew's reactions to the story that luffy, sanji, nami and usopp were telling to them.

I knew franky was going to show his manly tears lol.

Well it looks like the straw hats are ready for the counter attack. I just love how oda sets up a story like this, almost nearly all of the arcs ive seen are done this way first he introduces you to bits and pieces of back story of the new characters, fleshing out the character more, makes you get connected to them and then starts the crazy action. Later closing it with even more backstory and tying up what happens in the past to the present. It is just absolute phenomenal. It just makes you want to root for the crew more now that they can accomplish there goal, and also achieve brooks dream of one day returning to his comrade "laboon".

And that's important why? Anyway, I enjoyed this as quite a lot has happened since the Laboon mini-arc happened. I don't see the big deal about re-caping stuff that happened so long ago myself.

The latter part of the show was great! Finally all the crew has more than one reason to beat down Thriller Bark haha They're all pumped up.. especially Sanji.. he's been continuously burning up throughout the show and I'd hate to be Absolom..yohohoho! XD

i love how franky bawls his manly heart out. it took me a while to get a hang of his personality but he's just a big ol' wacky discomforting cyborg softie. i love how rounded OP characters are - there are so many facets that watching episodes is just like getting to know somebody. i feel like i KNOW them, like i'm aware of their personalities but it's hard to put that awareness into words, like with real people.

aw the recap of laboon was kinda nice. we got a small glimpse of what brook looked like in his human form!
but it looks like he's getting defeated by his zombie... if his bones get broken, can he ever recover back? is he still able to heal?
either way, its fantastic how the team is ready to go and take down thriller bark now.

The recap was okay, I can't say I paid full attention to it, it kept on reminding me of their first meeting with Princess Vivi and then I kept thinking about the Alabasta Arc. It doesn't feel like that long ago but there's been a lot of episodes since then.

Anyway, back to the point which is, it wasn't a bad episode and I liked Brook's finish and the way Luffy declared the reasons why Brook had to become their Nakama. I find it interesting that the other crew members dreams mean they must move forward along the Grand Line to become the Pirate King, draw a map of the world, find All Blue, become the strongest swordsman, ect, whereas Brook must go forwards to go back to fulfil his promise to Laboon. It's an interesting change.

So Brook is keeping the afro for Laboon to recognise him????? ohohohohoh T____T
I love Franky's manly tears and Sanji is gonna save Nami as I wished for :3 :3 :3
Also, loved the last line by Zoro :) I can wait to see Brook's reaction when they'll tell him that they want him as nakama and that Laboon is alive and waiting for him!!!!
p.s. it's beautiful how noble Luffy can be with naive own way :)

I was going to rewatch the Laboon episode anyways so this was awesome for me. Keep in mind if people watched this airing on tv it can be very difficult to go back and watch a specific episode. Moreover, watching this weekly means you forget the small details of seemingly nonconsequential mini-arcs. The recap was good!

Laboon never gave up waiting and believing in his nakama. He refused to against odds similar to Brook's. I think a large part of One Piece's appeal is bonds between nakama. That and its exploration of legendary people. Incredibly strong people with a resolve to stand fiercely for their ideals. People that are nuanced enough to be complex and feel genuine and real yet people who we can look to for inspiration as we see how far they've come in their journeys. Brook and Laboon's relationship exemplifies this with both areas.

The flashback itself reminded me of how Luffy challenged Laboon so impulsively. I love him so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! He understood where Laboon was coming from and to save his life he thought up making a new promise, one that doesn't hurt Laboon so much, and without saying a single word to his crew he started a boxing match with a giant whale. The way he perhaps cannot even put why he does what he does into words is really awesome. He's so feel based, his so emotionally aware, and he just, in my mind, does what he thinks is right for people he respects or likewise to confront people he doesn't.

It's quite awesome how Sanji reflects Franky in that they both said bluntly that there's no way their nakama are still waiting for them, or that there's no way that their nakama is coming back. BUT TRUE NAKAMA PULL THROUGH FOR EACH OTHER, EVEN IN DEATH!!!! My heart. It seems even some of the Straw Hats have a thing or two they could learn from Brook.

I assumed Brook's afro was going to be a part of his promise. It wasn't exactly but the fact that he associates it as the one thing that grounds him to his past, the one thing that represents the nakama that he's living for at this moment, makes his afro analogous to Luffy's straw hat representing Shanks.

Brook seems to have possibly lost his battle... Of course, it would be narratively strong for Brook to finish off his shadow and I seem to struggle with seeing it going any other way. But, one detail that caught my mind is the zombie has a really cool red and black sword, Brook only uses one sword, and Zoro needs a new sword. Are you putting two and two together? I think Zoro's totally going to get that sword one way or another!!!

Since people mentioned Franky's manly tears here so much I'll write a brief love letter on why I love them too. I think Franky represents a super healthy and great kind of manliness. Remember his speech, a man should be confident with only the skin on his back, he is resolutely proud of everything he does, he never has shame apart from some comedic "I'm not crying!" lines. He confidently shows happiness, sadness, anger. He cries manly tears more than I've ever seen someone do before. He's an honest person as Tom said, and he cannot help but show his emotions. This does lead to good and bad such as the times he's overly violent or angry. It leads to why he seems too scary and maniacal and even suicidal in his own fights. That comes with the price of making such a character. The kind of manliness Franky represents, to me, is an absolute confidence in one's beliefs and emotions and a willingness to show them without any kind of shame. Now, that's awesome.

Revisiting the Straw Hats' first meeting with Laboon was very nostalgic considering that it's been literally hundreds of episodes since I've last seen him by now. Knowing his connection to Brook made it a lot more emotionally impactful this time around too!

Fighting his own really powerful shadow is a difficult thing for Brook to do but his resolve to fulfill his promise with Laboon's is unwavering. He'll definitely be able to defeat him by his own merit soon enough but it'd also be great if his new Nakama lends him a hand. Everyone agreeing to accept Brook into the crew thanks to this revelation was absolutely heartwarming~

Actually glad for the recap. Thought about watching the 2 episodes again myself. But yeah everyone got the motivation needed now to help Brock, get there shadows band, and defeat Moria.

I do wonder if they would backtrack to get labo. Or is this way down the line when they would meet. It be awesome if he did follow the ship around and officially join the crew as well
