| ....uhmm...everybody thinks it's awesome. It put a new spin on an old, exhausted Setting. Madhouse animation looked amazing AND it dethroned FMAB as the #1, which speaks volumes, in terms of popularity on MaL. So...uhm....No. No it doesn't deserve love. It's hateable. EDIT: Could you please tag Okeanix? He would LOVE to tell you about a thing or two xD |

Character Cast = One-dimensional shounen characters, already cliché tropes. World = A one-dimensional fantasy world that you can find in any random Dungeons & Dragons setting. Lore = Pretty much non-existent. Story = Boring and uninspired. Details = There are no story details; the animation forces itself to carry this aspect. Depth = It's a shounen manga, so what? Arcs = Uninspired and unoriginal, like the exam arc you can find in any random shounen. Animation = Very good, which is why it's hyped. Consistency & Writing = Terrible. The reason Frieren is so hyped is that it's another shounen that plays it too safe, yet it's filled with the absence of 'shounen fantasy in an actual fantasy world.' Does it mean anything to me? It's just a very solid anime that resonates intensely with some people, while being so completely inoffensive that it avoids attracting much bad attention.
Many other #1 candidates, while very good, are chock full of cringey anime bullshit, fanservice, have an annoying main character etc. Frieren avoids almost every pitfall.
