the ridiculous and grating series of revelations (incest?? i was laughing) and the commoner politics both annoyed me. this show is not carrying off the serious themes/scenes well *at all*. whatever

Didnt expect that plot twist from Lene. It came completely out of left field since we didnt know the brother until recently and had one scene of showing she admired her brother. I'm very curious to see what the conclusion to this will be as I dont think Lene is just gonna work as normal after these events so she might actually semi leave the story stage. But the probable outcome will be they defeat the monster, they prove he was being threated to do what he did and its all happy happy days. I personally think the incest is really weird especially since it came out of nowhere and for it to be attached to a nice character like Lene just makes me more confused. It ruins her character for me. This entire time we were made to believe Lene was just extremely loyal to Claire and didnt really have much else going on then they threw that curve-ball. Unless this somehow develops further down the line this feels like something the author randomly decided to add on a whim. (Dont get me wrong, i love this series and its characters which is why this decision is so confusing for me. And its not that I despise incest as this is coming from the guy that watched and liked Oreimo)

In regards to the conflict I was just thinking there wont be much stakes since Rae knows all the events but the usual thing to do is add an element that wasnt in the game to throw them off and create tension. I hope the rest of the series isnt just constantly conflict now that they've introduced the villain. Want it to keep what its had going and see more wholesome Rae x Claire moments.

Incest, Homosexuality, Politics, Church trying usurping power, geez this episode was packed with a lot of themes crammed into one episode. I also agree with others here that the animation quality really took a dip. Like mouth movements and hands being very weird looking. The ending with Lene and other her brother felt very like a soap-opera.

So, even in a school made for equality between commoners and nobles, the Bauer Kingdom which stems from it is still stuck in selfishness.

Prince Yu's attendant Dede attacking a commoner from the Commoner Movement, Matt is gravely injured, and from his standpoint, Dede's defense by attacking him without notice, created this incident which has since burst into a rage. Of the Bauer Kingdom princes, Yu is the spiritual one that grew up in the Church, and that it overthrows even the royal family's teachings. Yet, Dede's wand was found to have no anomalies, and Rae still wants to take advantage of Claire's kindness, how spite. Within the week of investgations, his week-long house arrest is infamy and disrespect to the commoners. This leads back to Yu and his mother, the current Bauer Kingdom Queen Riche, which would also be a ruse to make the 3 princes go loggerheads with one another. Rae has no choice but to leave Claire with Lene for the night, as she already knows what's about to happen.

Clearly, the Church is still at it trying to ovethrow the royal family, and Rae outsmarts Lambert as the culprit of the feud between commoners and nobles, but of a forbidden sibling love between him and Lene. Indeed, the Aurousseau siblings are just tools in the exploit for to make this a big issue, even summoning a multi-magic-wield chimera.

Trouble in the school, will they get out alive?

To use more heavy themes you need to use them properly. The scenes should have credibility.
I don't think this particular show is well equipped against those themes.

I’m really disappointed that they compare homosexuality to incest in this episode.

This episode absolutely shell-shocked me. The way they brought in these intricate political topics on classism was very surprising but honestly refreshing to see in a gay anime. The intensity and depth into the topic was also unexpected. It had me hooked to see the modern day parallels, I couldn’t stop watching. On the other hand, that incestuous relationship was quite a lot to take in, I certainly was not expecting that. I do like Lene, and as of right now we are not sure whether she reciprocates this love for her brother, so I’m still rooting for her seeing as she was a nice lady. The ending scene with the new villain that Rei did not recognize is scaring me!! I hope they will all be okay and I am waiting for next weeks episode!

This episode was crazyyyyy... very thought provoking, I was making both connections and predictions throughtout the entire thing, but I never would've guessed that the one guy was behind it, and that he was in a relationship with his sister, and that they were being used as puppets by someone else that was threatening her. crazy fr. I no longer have any predictions, I was srsly gagged. :O Who tf is this guy? Is he with the church or something? And who is this new girl? I'm getting really suspicious of everyone, but I seriously have no clue what to think. can't wait for the next couple episodes!!!!

WTF was that. They made such a point of having a discussion about how homosexuality is totally normal and not to be frowned upon, and now they're comparing it to incest? This plotline came out of nowhere.
@Rajidae Yeah it's a downgrade for sure. That line "Homosexual love isn't the only kind of forbidden love" is fucking EW. It's interesting for a surprise plot twist but for this show specifically, it's pretty unfortunate...

this might probably be the most intense/serious episode we've had! but of course there's small bit of comedy of Rae's teasing to Claire!

I really like how intense this episode got, it’s in stark difference to the otherwise basic isekai setting established so far. I thought the ending scene with Rae encouraging Claire to embrace feeling sad instead of bottling it up like she usually does was very sweet.

I never thought that Lene and her brother Lambert planned this whole incident just so that the both of them could make an attempt to escape the country and become true lovers.

It honestly really surprised me by how the nobles are rebelling against the commoner movement. However, it seemed that the Princes of the Bauer Kingdom are trying to keep things under control.

hate politics in the real world, don't care for the one presented in this episode too. Some twists in the second half, and even if Rae's antics can be extremely silly even in supposed serious moments, they're still more enjoyable than bringing the focus too much on nobles vs commoners drama.

👁👄👁 was NOT expecting the incest betrayal.... also like another user said, don't like that it was lumped in with homosexuality. That aside 👀 curious to find out who this masked guy is, the cheeriness of the next episode preview was a bit jarring after the cliffhanger of this episode.

This episode went by really fast!! Woow I wasn't expecting incest lol absolutely crazy that Lene threatened to kill Claire. I agree with what others are saying, this is a very bold anime! I thought a girl and her guard dog was bold, but this is on a whole different level. I'm glad this got interesting because it was starting to get very boring and was slightly considering dropping it. I wonder who the guy in the mask is...

Yes, homosexuality is the exact same picture as incest, or do you think wanting to mate with your sibling or loving same sex is a totaly sane behavior ? both because the brain miss the part that shouldn't make it happen, but i only know about sibling relationship study.

tbh, I feel like the line of dialogue "homosexuality isn't the only form of forbidden love" was a very bad choice. I don't think this show has the intention of equating homosexuality to incest, but they aren't really denouncing incest yet.. I'd like to know more about Lene and Lambert's life. With the amount of context we have, it seems like they're just implying the two are innocently in love with each other. at their big age?? surely there's some sort of psychological explanation and idec how flimsy it is I just need to know.

also the plot of class uprising seems.. counterproductive to the whole setup? almost all of the main characters are nobility. we're going to have more empathy for them than is deserved because the representation of the common class is totally unimportant randos. at least Claire is angry about Dede's sentencing ig?
and I'm curious about the weird villain character. because the lower class are just in their anger at their treatment by the upper class... I don't want there to be some rando supervillain pulling the strings. unless they're nobility themself?? idk. the fact that Dede was set up to incite rioting from the commoners is a lil icky to me. like there is a corrupt system in place and to have a false incident be the catalyst for major acts of uprising is unfortunate. it makes the commoners seem unnecessarily vengeful.
I'll hold my tongue until we find out more about this masked person, because maybe it'll be settled in a satisfactory manner!!

the low budget animation is getting to me too...

ugh why this class uprising plot just play pretend in the fantasy world. the only character I really like anymore is Claire but she needs to radicalize faster. (and that nurse was so cute)
@gaylordawesome About the whole "homosexuality isn't the only form of forbidden love", I think they meant it as in the kingdom the anime takes place in. It's probably still forbidden there.

Sorry Rae, sorry Claire. But Matt is the best girl now.

The way Rae just doesnt care at all while everyone is discussing politics, we learned so much about revolutions in history class if anybody so much as mentioned my name in that situation I would say "The peasants are dissatisfied" automatically.

I guess this peasant revolution is the threat to claire?

I should finish watching EPs before making comments.

Would have expected the incest to be more normal to nobles than the homosexuality, let me guess, its only forbidden for peasants.

Ahahaha the author literally said "normies DNI" People were complaining that the show is "too woke." Well, it's so ahead of the curve that normie sjws are going to be pissed because they're bigoted against incest. I'm so glad they don't get to have nice things.

I also love that the story is actually a political drama as well as a romance

@cjsogarb I don't remember the author ever condemning it in the light novel. If she condemned it somewhere else, well, I still give her points for presenting it neutrally.
I'd be an edgelady apologist, if only I were sorry
