I think mine would be charity, diligence and kindness. I have them all but the others are in small amounts

"What ones do you think matter more?"

In the same way Pride is the worst, Humility is the best, the rest follows once you have it, just like how it works with pride. Or at least that's how I'd like to see it

Astute discernment. I also reached this conclusion.

Not only am I incredibly humble and brimming with humility, but I am also high in temperance as I only drink 1 bottle of vodka per day. I am very charitable in that I donate to my favourite vtubers, and diligent as I consistently clock in to watch them for a full 8 hours per day. In this way my patience is also highlighted, and my kindness is overflowing as I kindly moderate discord servers (for free), allowing communities to exist in harmony. Needless to say, I am highly chaste.

It seems that I am brimming with all 7 virtues!

I don't particularly associate with a particular aspect among the seven. Just be in harmony within the society is more than enough for me.

I'm very sure it's neither Humility nor Patience and FOR SURE NOT Temperance lol.
Not even in a materialistic sense, but I'm kinda a fan of Hedonism.

Kindness and in some ways Diligence maybe.
Charity... questionable, because I have very mixed feelings about these organisations, but I rather helped out friends when needed.

Does Chastity count as an aroace person? I'm more like "yeah sometimes sex is nice, but I really don't seek it out and don't crave for it". It's not a virtue if you are not craving it.
Also I'm against the sex-negativity of Christianity and surely would's say Chastity is in any form a virtue.

In the same way telling people they should be humble, is a way to hold them down through religion, so they don't recognize their self-worth.

Probably kindness, though it feels weird to say it myself since it sounds like bragging. Well, I guess humility is one too. ^^

Chastity is not a virtue, though.

"In the Babylonian religion, chastity was actually a sin, and there were temple prostitutes which served the public at large to win favor of the gods. Sex orgies and massive sex festivals also took place. Kings had harems for both men and women, and everyone simply had sex with everyone who wasn’t married — nothing was off limits."

No matter what, you can't do it right!

Christianity: My good Christian kid! (Except I dunno... homosexuality lol)
Babylonian: How dare you not having enough sex!

I don't know what were the supposed consequences for not having enough sex, but think of it. You live your entire life as a Christian, never having sex unless it's for reproduction and all and then when you die you expect to go to heaven, but instead meet some deity who is angry with you for not having banged enough people.

That's why it's better to avoid religious dogma altogether. When the mind is forced to choose between two polar extremes, it would rather not choose at all.

Why should anyone give a damn about a "civilisation" that partook in human sacrifice?

It is definitely a virtue, look at how old womanisers look like.

Now, now... just because these ancient civilizations had some highly questionable practices doesn't make them less impressive. All I'm saying is... imagine their religion turns out to be the right one. It is like what I said in that AI thought experiment thread that traed couldn't understand (I'm not going to name it for obvious reasons). You have one deity that would judge you for being lustful and another one that would judge your for being chaste. In this case, it would make more sense if you follow neither since it is technically an impossible choice.

As for the second statement, do you have any specific example?

Meanwhile the Christian God doesn't know if I'm a sinner because I was too lazy to have sex since that's Sloth, or if he should praise me for my Chastity lol. OR hate me for still being a lesbian??

If it was for me, we could get rid of religions in general, but I believe lot of people actually want to be told what to do with their life. Whether it's religious dogma, or their worth through status symbols and how much sex they got, or tradition or anything else that tells them how to live their life.

I'm hardly a Thomist (or Christian at all for that matter) but these are all desirable qualities in my opinion, generally speaking.

Just chiming in to say that I have never met a virtuous person who hasn't exercised chastity, and that abstaining from any superfluous debasements of intimacy is a good general rule for the average person if they want to lead a more fulfilling life.

I'm not an expert or a Christian, but I believe that chastity is only considered a virtue in Christianity if you have a strong desire to have sex but refuse to act on it to the point where it becomes a torment. (That is why they don't consider people like eunuchs to be virtuous, for example, because they don't feel sexual desire to begin with).

Sadly, yeah. I spoke to a Christian priest once and his main argument for following the religion was that it's so much easier to be told what to do and have "no free will" (great anti-Christian ad btw, LOL).

Anyway, I'm sure Meus will try to correct me, so we'll see the other point of view.

Christian's stance on free will is kinda ironic. You are told humans have free will, but every decision that is made by your free will bring you into hell, and everything that happens against it will bring you into heaven.

What fucks me up the most is "but how do you know you shouldn't rape or murder? What stops atheists from doing it." 🤨
Should I imagine these Christian, who are saying this, as dangerous maniacs, who are only held back by their dogmas or what...

I can only recognize myself in Kindness where often in situations where I don't want to help, my brain insists and sometimes does it automatically.

  • Temperance is sobriety? In my language it is, I think I can recognize myself in it? X) I've never had a drop of alcohol.
  • For charity... I give, but I don't think I give enough.
  • Diligence - I give up too quickly for this quality X)
  • Same goes for Patience, i tend to be very impatient lol
  • I recognize myself a little in Humility, I always try to respect opinions and differences of others.

I do not need to imagine it because it makes no sense. If you need to remember anything about the Bible (or the Qur'an), it is its critique of idolatry: people carved statues in wood and started worshipping them. Obviously those gods do not even exist, so all those religions have no chance to be the "right" one. Call it Nature, Cosmos, or God, unicity is a basic property this metaphysical being must possess.

Read the memoirs of Casanova.

Some eunuchs could still have sex otherwise, and it would be frown upon if they partook in fornication like King David. Marriage is only meant for those too weak to resist the flesh, but it is preferable to stay "pure" (St. Paul). For those who are married, there are absolutely no issues with having a high sexual drive, and all the nonsense around "sex is only for procreation" are mere rants of American armchair Puritans. Otherwise, the Catholic church did not have a very strong stance on the celibacy of priests until about a millennium ago when monks finally managed to win the ideological battle. To me, it is a stupid dogma that does not follow from any part of the New Testament.

He is right though, most people are too stupid for their own sake.

In fact, it is rather easy to follow this religion for most people who only need to get married and stay faithful to their spouse.

You are just not a real, coherent atheist, and obviously have never opened a book of Sade...

Kindness and patience for sure.

Probably kindness, patience, and humility. Charity is also something that matters, but I think it generally applies more to people who can afford to be charitable, and so I would say that it might come in fourth, right behind the other three.
