I'm a guy and I like yaoi, and its generally the first genre I will choose over any other, anime or manga.

I know a lot of girls on here who like, and really to me sometimes, they seem to like it because it is "forbidden", and some of the very negative things that happen in it they just look over or even laugh at. So in a way belittling m/m relationships which some manga is seriously trying to discuss.

I don't understand the whole thrill of it with them. I think some just do it because its cool to some of their friends, they can feel naughty and sexy with it. It's something they don't get to see, so they are so excited about it.

I read or view it because it more reflects my own life. I get sick and tired of hetero stuff by majority because its not my life or its way too stupid and improbable. I don't just like yaoi to get off on the sexuality of it. I can look in a mirror or spend time with my man, so its no big deal for me like some of these girls.

I like there is a lot out there I can choose from, but there is a lot of "bad" and stupid yaoi out and some people actually believe that is how it is between gays or bi males. Really uh..slanted, but then its women writing this stuff mostly, so they have it wrong or make one of the guys REALLY fem, or dumb or gullible (uke, yes I know) and these girls believe this non-sense. Ironic some of them will read yaoi and love it, but then don't feel comfortable in real life around gays or bi, or lament and/or jealous when its two nice looking guys together. Go figure!

YES, I know there are a lot of girls/women who also like it for the ascetic qualities and strong story lines besides the nice looking guys. Some of these ladies are my friends, and I very much appreciate their attitudes. There are far more open-minded ladies I feel about yaoi than there are guys (straight or otherwise) who accept or like. Guys who like yuri do seem a lot less annoying than the huge brigade of female yaoi lovers who are always tossing out pairings and "oh they are so cute/hot together" lines.

I don't have a real preference when it comes to yaoi, yuri or whatever genre. I like them all, I don't think they're disgusting or horrible or really the most wonderful thing I've ever read. People can have a different opinion about these things, I don't mind. (Honestly, I haven't even read every comment cause I don't really care). People may phantasize about these things, because the most pairings are guys that are really good friends. You see them hanging around each other every episode/chapter so you'll start to think about those things and then you suddenly find out you like them together! Woohoo! Hooray! But seriously I think that people are admireable that they can write such stories. I think it's fun to read/watch so please continue with what you're doing fanfiction people!

Obviously not all girls like yaoi... and I'm sure there's boys that aren't yuri fans. Why people like the things they like is a tricky question - the answer will perhaps vary from person to person.

Yaoi is alright. I'm into a lot of yaoi fanfiction stuff and a few yaoi anime/mangas.

It's pretty good. Not everyone is going to love it though...and that goes for girls too.

I don't like staring at a guy's ass for the whole time, so I go with yuri. Assuming the girls also don't like to see their own assets the whole time, there's no reason for them not to like yaoi. I also like futa for example; everything a guy can do without seeing the guy.

I don't mind others watching yaoi. Sure, I don't like it, but if someone else does, well, it's good for them.

On the other hand, crowslayer's post in page 2 might just be the perfect answer.

It's just not my cup of tea. People like different things. It looks like you won't give popular shounen a chance, just like how I won't give yaoi a chance. :/ Nothing wrong with that. I like shojo, two, but just stuff I can relate to. The only reason I watch anime at all is because I'm studying animation.

Look closer? I own 18 volumes of Naruto for crying out loud, among other things. Popular enough? You just can't have a relevant opinion on something you've never experienced.

I am also all these things.

You shouldn't give up on a genre just because the majority of it sucks, especially if you want to truly experience the medium of anime or manga properly.

I don't like shounen or sports, and I still watch it and find some great anime in the mix for it. I still watch every genre because there's a chance to learn or see something new.

My rational side says that it has something to do with sensitizing the seemingly incomprehensible stoicism/idiocy of males (as viewed from a female perspective); or perhaps the same reason why girls seem feel so comfortable around gay males--less possibility of a sexual attraction from the male side.

However my cynical side believes that the rationale is: "it's all the fun of penis without the penetration".

For me? Yaoi=no thanks.

In the end and as proved also by the two similar threads in this forum, the "guys are crazy for yuri" is just a myth. Girls always like to make men look worse than them and hit back at men for there behavior(men are more swallow, men are more perverter) to cover there own similar or worse behavior.
"We do it because we think guys like yuri" is the most stupid of reasons i even heard.
As about the difference between yuri and yaoi again considering the role of the two genders in society as i said before it makes it very different(refer to my first post on this thread for that).
Now if many girls like this yaoi staff even though personally i hate it, it's there right to have it and enjoy it. I see nothing wrong with that. But at least girls be honest with your selfs for once and admit that in this yaoi, yuri staff, you are a little more perverted than guys are.

That wording makes it sound stupid. It's actually more like
"We like it just like [some] guys like yuri"

And I only use that because it seems guys understand it better this way. If I go all metaphysical they don't get it. If I say "cuz it's hawt", they get it.

Males may or may not be less sex driven than females but it is indisputable that males are much more open about expressing our sexual desires then females generally are--likely leading to such a conclusion.

07-Ghost, Kyou kara maou, and pandora hearts are one of slash pairs you see around. It take fangirls mind to see it. :)

Why girls likes yaoi ? Well a other reason its not fair for boy likes yuri. :|

Sure, anything gets me going, but I have "phases" in which I prefer specific gender pairings for the time being. Characters are important, for sure, but Yaoi and Yuri both have their unique charm.

I think there may be some double standards.
And I think it's due to the "cult of masculinity" often seen in a lot of cultures.
When femininists use terms like "patriarchy" and "male supremacy", they do mean something.
Society still seems to view masculinity as the superior of the two gender roles.

Though it's not like society was ever too loving of women trying to act in a way that was considered "less inferior" and trying to get jobs and "act butch". Society viewed masculinity as superior but at the same time did not want to grant that to women.

Nowadays people have simply accepted a certain amount of "masculinity" from women, and their bending of gender roles. While a man genderbending is seen as laughable and "lowering" himself to being more womanly.

Also, although ingorance is no proof or argument, I haven't heard of any hate crimes on lesbian females, in the West at least. Though I have heard of gay males being killed. In the West as at least. I'd really honestly like to know the statistic. But it would seem like there are more hate crimes on gay males in the West than lesbian females. In some parts of Africa, Lesbians are raped. Which I'd say is fairly severe. And in Dubai, they're apparently trying to "crack down" on lesbianism. Though they do also imply in the articles stating it, that gay males in Dubai are degraded by homosexuality even more.

As for aesthetic things, eye candy for women is not near as catered for women as it is for men. And men's attraction and likings is given preference over women. Futhermore, this is aided by the fact women's beauty is treated as more important than men's. This carries over into porn and homoromance. People talking about "oh man, dude, lesbians are HAWT" fratboy mentality, is the one catered to. Women liking gay men is perhaps even more unknown in the United States than in Japan.
It's basically the same as the fact playboy is more popular and more advertised than playgirl.

Furthermore, people who think yuri is hot and yaoi is terrible, are often just intolerant yuri fans. A lot of guys think it makes them REAL MEN, to be all intolerant and bullish. I think this is specifically what Sonic_Moronic was talking about. Bullish straight guys.

Most "lovers talk" I've seen in yaoi tends to be "I know you like it/your body says yes" or something equally cheesy. I'd like to see a more serious series, though--a gay Itazura na Kiss, or something like that.

So many girls are yaoi fangirls that it gives the rest of us a bad reputation. Back in high school, a guy assumed I was one of them when a bunch of girls started discussing yaoi. I told him that I was not and would never be interested in any kind of BL. He gave me a hug after he got over the shock.

Also kind of sucked living with three anime fan girls in college, all of whom like yaoi to varying degrees. One tried to trick me into watching by turning her monitor towards me. >_<

Don't call it a bad reputation. It's only a reputation. In my case it greatly contributes to the fear I've been cultivating amongst my peers.

Yaoi tends to be a more of a niche for girls in the anime community, for reasons besides the fact it's fucking animated.

So, the better question would be: Why does a significantly higher portion of females in the anime community enjoy watching (gay animated) Yaoi than that of the general population?

Had you done so, you would've answered your own question unless you are somehow ignorant of the rest of the sexual fetishes the anime community tends to love. Also, this is pure speculation but I would not be shocked if the OP of this thread probably knew the answer to his own (misphrased) question but for some reason felt compelled to ask, feeling that his answer was unsatisfactory in some fashion and that this (misphrased question) would be more entertaining.

I'm a woman and I'm not into yaoi at all. I get why other girls are in theory, same as guys wanting to watch chicks make out and/or grope each other, but personally it's not something I can see myself gettin' into.

I can't stand 90% of the fangirls, they act like morons and go around calling anyone who's not as obsessed by "NaruSasu" and "KakIru"(and whatever other pairings they pulled outta their asses)homophobes like it's the worst thing a person could ever be.

But I can't say I'm offended by being called someone who has a fear of two guys doing explicitly sexual thing to each other. -_-

I just resent it because of the connotations it carries(that you want to hurt or exile gay people to another planet or something for pete's sake), and being called it by halfwits I've never even spoken to before. Seriously, ever had your email spammed with yaoi porn?
