Am I the only one who thinks Yuki Kajiura's composition is better than NzK in most aspects?

I agree with you, Kevin Penkin is also better than Hiroyuki Sawano but he's still very young so maybe he can surpass Kajiura Yuki one day.

Different composition styles, no one is better than the other. I also would like to know which songs of them did you listen to.

In the case of Sawano, I've heard the OST for Shingeki, Re Creators, 86 and Zombie Loan. For Kajiura, it's Fate, Madoka Magica, SAO, Dream Port (mini album with Revo) and Kara no Kyoukai.

Since I like them both we'll have to solve this issue the old fashioned way:
Who made better Gundam music?
I think Sawano did a better job overall but I'll give some points to Kajiura since the ending themes (and Meer) were the only decent things about SEED: Destiny.

I agree. Madoka has one of my favourite anime OST. Sawano is really good as well though. His AOT ost is very good.

Anyways Kevin Penkin is the best anime music composer in my opinion. Everything he composes is just so good.

Agreed, although I think Kanno Yōko outshines them in almost every regard.

Don't really like either of the 2 really, and that goes for the majority of anime OSTs. I've always thought of them as "does its job" kind of background effects.

Better or not I'm not good enough to tell. But I do prefer her much more, coincidentally my current watch is Cossette no Shouzou and its an absolute banger.

Maybe try sleeping?

I'd say they are equal they both created some remarkable tracks and bot of them are "weaker" than Shiro Sagisu x) [Music is very subjective so that's why I put "weaker" as all of them are talented].

I can see some similarities between the two, you largely know what type of sound to expect when they are doing the music with their styles generally remaining the same. Though if we're comparing who is the better composer, I think Sawano has better composition. Kajiura is pretty reliable when it comes to making background music that blends in without standing out, but I prefer the punchier music of Sawano. Sawano's Gundam Unicorn soundtrack is better than any of the 15 Kajiura soundtracks I've listened to.

Kensuke Ushio is better than both of them imo.

The only part i think Sawano lacks is creativity, his OSTs are amazing but sound very similar

Both are definitely great composer, but Kajiura doesn't really suit my taste unlike Sawano. Except a few pieces, Sawano nailed it with most of his songs for me.

You are definitely not the only one. I love soundtracks composed by Hiroyuki Sawano, but definitely Yuki Kajiura is my favorite composer, and by a wide margin.

I love them both a lot, but I agree, Kajiura is better. I listen to her music way more than Sawano's. Her music can feel mysterious, beautiful, poetic. I love the way she has her own language for things that are beyond words.

I like both of them but it's true that Sawano's OSTs sound exactly the same with only a few exceptions, whereas Kajiura almost always tries to find a new approach for every new release.

And Kevin Penkin... man is already on a league of his own, honestly.

I like them both and I don't know about "better", but I'd definitely choose Yuki Kajiura as well. Even 10+ years after watching Noir series, the soundtrack from that anime remains one of the most memorable ones for me. I like her music in the other anime I've seen quite a bit as well.

Kajiura is not relevant anymore in Japan while Sawano may follow her soon, after 2018 all his works feels cheap and uninspired.
But they were both gold around 10+ years ago or something. They certainly left their indelible imprint on the anime of that period.

Same here as they're both great composers, so it's hard/difficult to decide IMO.

Sawano is a little bit overrated, indeed.
If you're a fanboy, please don't waste my time.

This song by Yuki Kajiura lives forever in my head for the past 24 years. I do like Sawano's Gundam Unicorn work better though.
