The thing is the original version, and probably some of the fan translations, number the very first arc, The Black Swordsman, as "episodes" with the "chapters" starting sometime in the Golden Age arc. No idea why it was originally like that, years later it just causes unnecessary confusion. Anyway, about Farnese. I guess you could say she's "crazy", but I think that betrays the complexity of her character. She knows she's kind of fucked up, but ones true nature is hard to keep at bay. Also, I don't think it's fire she's aroused at so much as pain, or rather inflicting pain in general. Fire, being the start of the fetish is probably the most "intense" for her, though. Anyway, she's pretty fascinating, I don't think I've seen perversion tackled in such a way during my time in anime and manga. I could see me honestly favoriting her some day. Also, interesting contrast with Serpico there. Whereas Farnese is turned on by fire, he seems to be afraid, or rather sick, of it. Also, it's implied that Farnese was the one who burned his mother as a heretic three years ago. So, why would he follow her? Is it for revenge? I don't think so, I have a feeling it's more complicated. It's clear to me that he's been watching out for her, I've honestly figured he was in love with her. But, loving your mothers killer would definitely complicate things. All in all, Farnese and Serpico are great additions to the main cast. |

| I don't care for Farnese, but I like Serpico. I forgot to mention it when it happened a few chapters ago, but his surprise attack on Guts was sick. The way he sort of shrugged off the damage to his shoes and walked away was great. His past seems interesting, and I look forward to finding out more about his character, unlike Farnese. |

| Serpico seems like an interesting and complicated character. Having learnt about his mother, I wonder about his motives. Plus, so far he appears as one of the few sane characters in Berserk. Farnese is so sick and hypocritical (like the whole religion of course). I hope they all get what they deserve. | I was expecting guts to go all out against that got - much rather i was thinking he would go berserk like someone who's insane because that's almost the same sight as with griffith in the past. I was thinking he'd get some flashbacks and then eradicating that goat from the earth. Well in the end he just defeated it. The fighting style of that man who's fighting guts right now resembles a little bit the one griffith used. |
