Full Tomino ending, no survivors other than Chum haha. I did like how most of the characters died, especially the final clash between Show and Bern. It was all inevitable though. Thinking that they'll just destroy their machines and wish hard enough to return to Byston Well is too naive.

Despite depicting such a rampage, this episode suceeds to be beautiful and has enough restraint. A great mix of love, hate, ambitions and destruction.
The last words and final situation seamlessly loop to the first words of the show.

I took this in a spiritual sense rather than its litteral meaning.

5+/5 Excellent episode, where Tomino's talent for crossing story and action shines.

This was a light war action drama, lacking ZetaGundam's ideas and hold down by the same 50% action ratio but surprisingly not as rough/shaky as Zeta would later be nor damaged by a useless soap-opera dramatic sense. A dozen episodes too long but some excellent ones.
Good designs, mecha and character-wise (I doubt thin kind of characters was often seen back then).

Score: 6/10

@CodeBlazeFate Another proof that having someone else writing his scripts or at least co-operative writing (such as for the First Gundam) leads Tomino to quasi-perfection.
One can only dream of what Zeta (or Ideon?) could have been...
⇒ Time to fix Zeta's score !

Wow, what a bombastic massacre!

Leave almost no survivors - that's what I call a great ending.

In spite of pretty much everyone dying, I actually found the episode's message of hope rather touching. On Upper Earth it looked like a massacre, but their souls have returned to Byston Well and they have restored peace to both worlds by destroying the aura machines.

My favorite moment was probably Neal killing off Drake and avenging Keen.

As for Keen: Keen we hardly knew ye.
And I mean that, you were around for 40+ episodes but we hardly knew ye.

Overall Aura Battler Dunbine was a pretty uneven series. It took a while to really get going. Parts of it were awesome, and parts of it felt so convoluted they were a bit of a chore to get through. But I'm glad I stuck with it till the (very rewarding) end.

Feel very much the same. A touching ending, with a warm feeling despite the bloodbath that unfolded. And yeah, it takes a long time to get going (had to take breaks while watching) but once it hit it's stride it was tons of fun.

Quick! Draw everyone dying as fast as possible!!

I'd honestly say I loved a lot of things in this anime, at least while they were in Byston Well. The weird creatures, flying around in mecha's and other air crafts with the backdrop of the woodland fantasy elements. It had a nice ambiance. The goofiness during the time in Byston Well was better too. I liked the episodes dedicated to random side characters that didn't really serve any purpose beyond simply portraying some interesting interactions. Even the random stuff that would take up a few seconds of animation; Liml fighting off monsters, Keen struggling to control a robot, Cham fumbling around in general. The episodes flowed much better at that stage of the show. The world carried an air of mystery, especially in the opening episodes before anything was explained.

I'd probably give this a higher score if the latter part back on Upper Earth hadn't been so dragged out. I really didn't care for much that happened towards the end. Bern's Black Knight phase was pretty funny. Leeza killing Elmelie was brutal. The couple episodes of Elle and her boyfriend were certainly something. There's so much that could be said about the deaths at the end. But overall everything they did was pretty much pointless. They got everyone killed and didn't protect anything really. It's not as if Drake was planning to enslave everyone in Byston Well or anything, one day he would've died and either things would continue with Bishott or best case scenario Liml would take over.

Not that there needed to be any point to the series necessarily. I would've been happy for them to stay in Byston Well getting up to random hijinks. But since they spent so much time building up to that climax it's kinda eh. Cham was maybe the only character I ended up liking. I think the series would've been a lot more boring without her randomly spawning into Show's mech every episode. She added a nice lighthearted feeling over the rest of the series. Kinda sad that everyone she loves just died around her.

Overall it was a fairly engaging anime until they got sent back to earth.
