Angel's Egg is about that process, losing your (Christian) religion. No occult elements or demons involved, just Jesus and the Pope. |

| Berserk (both the 1997 anime and manga). Berserk being a dark fantasy that it is has plenty of occult elements but not in a traditional sense. In the 1997 anime, you see mostly apostles (hellish demonic creatures) and of course the Godhand. The Berserk manga covers more of the traditional occult stuff like ritual summoning and demonic stuff. It's more Satanic in nature. |

| Occult is one of my favourite genres...but the best occult mangas out there haven't been adapted into anime and some don't even have translated version available.. My favourite is power of kotodama...like Toge Inumaki power... But not necessarily used like toge may be used by malicious spirit granting people's wishes of harming others for whatever reason... And rumours and lies that actually becomes true because people start believing in them more and more.. And the classic, candles wrapped around the head with a headband while hammering nail into an old tree at dawn.. |
