Cancelled or discontinued anime that you wish would be made?

A lot of shows or movies due to poor sales or general viewership get cancelled prematurely. Other factors also studio closure, creators death, etc. Once this happens they never seem to be able to regain the momentum needed to be continued unfortunately.

Which anime do you want to be made or continued? I have not watched many that have had this happen or really liked so I am interested to see what people wish for.

Candidate for Goddess and Nana! In both cases, the anime kinda just...ended mid-story because the mangaka ladies stopped working on the respective works, either due to health issues or because Sugisaki constantly likes to wander off to start new projects that she never finishes >___>

Idk if it counts as discontinued but I want a second season for Akatsuki no Yona so bad ;-;
It was decently popular but there's just been no news whatsoever on it for many years, so I assume that's it. Even though the manga gave plenty of more adaption material, so I gotta assume it didn't make enough money.
Kinda similar situation: the best arc of Katekyo Hitman Reborn! remains un-adapted. I mean, maybe they'll one day pull a Bleach and say "hey, the manga actually continued past where the anime ended, let's continue" but I doubt it πŸ˜… Its time is over, and I don't think they'll revisit it.

It's been a while since I watched it, but Rurouni Kenshin also never got finished, right? And due to the whole cp situation with the mangaka, I doubt there's gonna be a continuation or filler-free remake one day that actually completes this story in anime form.

Japan loves to bait me into getting hyped for Satoshi Kon adaptations but then cancel them later on or never really start on them.

I want those anime to be real.
I probably regret this post by now.

Dreaming Machine. It was the last anime that Satoshi Kon worked on before his passing. Yes, it wouldn't 100 percent be the same with a different director finishing it off, but I think Kon's style and talent would still be shown in parts of the movie.
Would also like Nana to be finished someday, but the manga has been on hiatus for more than fourteen years sooo.... that needs to be finished first. u__u;;
And I would loooove a proper adaptation of Nana to Kaoru.
oh!! I would like a sequel to Kuuchuu Buranko of course, that covers the other stories from the written series.
Second season of Aku no Hana that covers the rest of the manga would be great.

WorldEnd: What do you do at the end of the world? Are you busy? Will you save us?

also known as Sukasuka. Don't let the ridiculous title fool you, this has a great story. At least it seems so, judging by the tiny fraction of the story that actually got animated. It is one of the most egregious cases of a "go read the source material" ending.

The biggest disappointment is that Takeshi Koike made Redline which is easily one of the best pieces of animation in human history, but the movie didn’t do well in Japan so he never got to freely make another project and he never got the recognition he deserves.

1+ for this - Takeshi Koike deserved better (although he did do quite a few things, but still)

Anyways, since I'm already quoting something I MASSIVELY agree with, I might as well chime in to this thread. Personally, I always wanted The Five Killers to be an actual work.

'The Five Killers' was meant to be an anime that would air around the 2009/10 time-frame and - since it was an original anime by Gonzo - it had absolutely insane production. Lots of time and money were being invested into it and they even claimed that the director of Star Wars was going to be working on the script (as confirmed by its trailer.)

However, due to the fact that Gonzo was already in deep trouble with it being de-listed off the Tokyo Stock Exchange, the work could not come out in time and was eventually scrapped. The only thing remaining is the trailer for it - with MAL noting it's apparently from 2007:

In hindsight, now that I'm watching the trailer again, I realised this is more or less the average Gonzo anime. Not to say that's a bad thing though - quite the opposite actually lmao.

Even though (At least I don't believe it has) been discontinued, I would love more 'Noragami'. Give me more 'Noragami' God dammit.

Wouldn't mind more 'Chivalry of a Failed Knight' though.

I don't know about how much freedom he had, but he still managed to be a director in the Lupin the IIIrd movies (Jigen and Goemon) and those were still some high quality animation (not as much as Redline though). If you mean standalone, then yeah, shame he never had another chance.

Haruhi Suzumiya.
I desperately need a new season of that anime... there's A LOT of material which even the manga covered, so I just wonder why they can't animate anything else after The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya (which was a masterpiece, per se, and I feel like it's also a good conclusion for the anime if they were not planning to continue it, but DAMN, even the stories after it are good!).

I mean in the sense that he literally gets to create his own original anime from scratch, in Lupin he was a director and a character designer (even if he didn’t come up with the character designs) but in Redline he had total freedom and he used his talent for animating speed to create literally everything the way he wanted, he worked as a director, producer, animation director, storyboarding, key animator, character designer, mechanical designer… it was truly his magnum opus considering that he got to create his vision in full.

-Deadman Wonderland- It's been more than 10 years since I watched it. Still no 2nd season.

-D.Gray-Man- After long hiatus, the mangaka resume it in 2018 although I haven't read/check this part yet. I wish it will be animated in the future.

In one of old post years ago asked about anime that need a remake, I wrote Katekyo Hitman Reborn as one of them.
2 anime I wrote from that list, Shaman King has remake and Hataraku Maou-sama just have new season after years.
If they continue Hitman Reborn, I think the voice actors might change just like what they did with the continuation of of D.Gray-Man anime ( D.Gray-Man Hallow)

Sad thing about Rurouni Kenshin.. When I heard that news, I have no hope for new Rurouni Kenshin anime.

High School of the Dead. It ended on a huge cliffhanger. They didn't even try to make a semi conclusive ending.
My waifu is the most wonderful waifu. Mai Valentine.

We're freaking out that we're running out of time, but to do what? Should i stop and think of that? Is there something i could do to slow it down? Live in a day for once, instead of watch it sprinting by

Announced last December. No news if it’s a continuation and covering the Jinchuu to Hokkaido arcs or a remake starting from the Tokyo Arc. It’s being produced by Liden Films, which has a mixed record. There shouldn’t be any filler considering the last arc of the main series cam out more than 20 years ago. There may be filler if they do the Hokkaido arc.

Wait how did I miss that, and also, how did that get greenlit πŸ˜…
Not that I'm complaining, very happy either way, a remake would be just as welcome as a continuation :)
Personally I've had mostly good experiences with Lidenfilms, everything I've watched by them was either good or at least did a good job in masking any shortcomings or budget savers they used (Arslan Senki, Tokyo Revengers, Kanojo to Kanojo no Neko, Ryman's Club, Build Divide, etc.) so as long as it doesn't turn full CGI like the Berserk one, I'm relatively confident it's gonna turn out fine, and the teaser doesn't look like it will 😊
Thanks a lot for bringing this to my attention!
