I might be a bit of a fool for this but I thought the topic of anime and climate change would be a bit interesting! I thought both Evangelion and Cowboy bebop for pretty subtle reasons showcased worlds suffering from climate disasters and wanted to talk about it! so I ended up making this https://youtu.be/cWfW52A-lJU
but I also wanted to know if anyone had more examples of Climate change in anime? subtle or heavy handed examples of a similar nature (kind of like how weathering with you never says the words "climate change" but its still pretty easy to draw the lines"

First thing that comes to mind is of course Chikyuu Shoujo Arjuna. It's as if the anime is made by Green activists.

Kaze no Tani no Nausicaä is a classic on the subject.

Ghibli movies like Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind and in a sense even Mononoke Hime are fcusing on how human activity could change the enviromenment and in consequence the climate. And there is the OVA of Yokohama Shopping Trip that is set in a world where the see level is rising rapidly and humans slowly go extinct.

Silver Spoon has a mention or two of the climate crisis, in the context of expected impacts on agriculture in the future.

The ARIA franchise presciently implements the Tesla/Bezos "terraform Mars and escape there" scenario, though most of humanity remains on an Earth (AKA "Manhome") beset by pollution and environmental damage.

Daphne in the Brilliant Blue, Najica, and Agent AiKa take place in a flooded future world.

Otaku no Video and Tayutama ~ Kiss on my Deity have some flash-forwards to flooded cities, presumably by climate shifts.

Desert Punk takes place in a desertified Japan, though we do learn that nuclear war was the proximate cause.

Stellvia of the Universe features an existential crisis facing humanity, one that requires cooperation, sacrifice, and acting with the long-term survival of the species in mind, rather than short-term interests.

Shangri-La takes on the climate crisis pretty directly, although some of its science is a bit muddled.

"Agent AIKa" and "Najica Blitz Tactics".

Two completely different stories that take place in the exact same world in the future where over 83% of the Earth is now covered by the sea. This is beyond the fact that in both titles it seems underwear modesty is completely extinct because of this sudden change in climate and every woman in this world seems to only wear white panties due to any other color panty being like an endangered species. lol

I thought Tenki no Ko also has subtle commentary on climate and its impact on modern city.
