| Well some people that like anime can get really annoying cause of the way they act about it. But I know what you mean. One of my friends says anime is completely stupid and no matter how much I try to tell her that she's looking at it too broadly, she still thinks the same. And my sister's boyfriend says I'm a nerd for liking it. |

| Otaku can also be reffering to having an obsession with games. Also, its korean not koreanese ^^. I like watching anime although i only started watching about 7 or so months ago. A friend of mine gets on my nerve by scrutinizing on everything i do by saying that shit is nerdy. The word nerdy, geek and synonyms of such words piss me off because I'm not a nerd or a geek but I only look like one. Not significantly smart, don't study and crap. That's off topic but like this friend of mine saw that I was watching 'Honey and Clover' while I was at school. And he said "You're watching life style anime? Fuck thats gay." and he blabbers that shit and then says I'm a dweeb etc etc. Then one day I saw this friend of mine reading Naruto manga at school. So I was like wtf'ing. He was several hundred chapters through Naruto. And he also says shit about me doing photoshop crap (Although I'm pretty noob) and says that its dweeby. Me using sony vegas (also pretty noob at that) he says that its dweeby. I watch korean dramas. (Watched them since I was in the third grade) and he don't say no nothing. When I was watching a movie he said no nothing. This sort of stuff gets on my nerve. But you move on. You like the stuff that you like and they like the stuff they like. If they scrutinize you for it, then so be it. You can't do anything about it. You can scrutinize about the shit they do but that's all you can do which is a waste of time and doesn't really make you feel any better but if you are a true anime otaku or anime lover whatever, you shouldn't care what other people just as long as you enjoy what you're doing. Also, don't argue about anime being good because them pricks won't change their minds. lolz. Oh no called my friend a prick ^^. Go continue watching anime... |

Generally speaking, people in England (or at least rural England - I haven't been to the cities that much lol) are horrifically closed minded about anime. You say you like anime - you're shunned and called a loser. Especially at my age. Hence why no one at my college knows I like it; its a pretty sad thing but it gets me by :] Although, people know I like Japanese music. Hm. I would never call someone a nerd, freak, geek. This is the most childish thing one can say. I don't think I'm a nerd, but I know there are people who think I'm a nerd. I watch anime every day. About 2-3 hours. Ok, I'm nerd, I don't play football like other fags all the day. I've never had a conversation with someone who hates anime. But I know they will say, I'm a nerd, even if they don't know what it is. But hey, that's our society. Everything is normal except that, what is foreign for the society. The only thing you can do is to ignore those beings. |

| Quit getting so defensive. I watch like at least an hour, sometimes more, of anime most days too. And I don't play football either, in fact the only sport I did in school was badminton. My favourite bands are Japanese and out of the 800 songs on my iPod 50 of them are English. Liking anime does not automatically make you a nerd, and I strongly consider myself a normal anime fan. Its the outlook and behaviour concerning anime, I think. Actually, I don't really think I should have to explain myself. |

| I dont know what its like in other peoples towns/cities, but where i live everyone believes that anime is just for children, they only think of shows like pokemon, yugioh, powerpuff girls etc, and very very very few people dont think that manga is just a comic book, like superman or judge dread, and none of them have any story besides superhero go save people. Only people that do know what they are that i have met are people who are fans of anime and manga like me, otherwise its widely thought of as something very childish, but im sure they havent seen any of the anime/manga that i read of which id have to slap them in the face if they dared show such things to children (And no, im not just talking about hentai of course lol) Most people dont understand what anime/manga is, yes a lot of it is aimed at the teenage market, and some aimed at younger children, but its no different from non animated shows, most people just label animation (or as most people rather call kiddies cartoons) something for children. |

| It differs from person to person. Luckily, I have friends who don't give a damn about something that is not common between us, and I don't pester the Anime theme. Some of my friends do watch Anime occasionally, especially stuff like Dragonball and Naruto, which aired in my Home country.. So it's not like people are judging me because I am watching Anime. But, I do stick to the therm "Cartoon", because explaining what is Anime to total retards is what gets on my nerves. |

| Personally, I wouldn't worry about what people think of you. My class knows I love anime, and they're cool with it. At first, they thought I was weird, but it's fine now. Also, funny story, my mum knew I was watching Gurren Lagann. She searched an episode of it online. Of 27 episodes, she had to pick the one where everyone was naked. wtf. |

| Like some people here have been doing, I keep my love of anime and related things a secret only I shall know. Around the area in which I live, such things that are considered "nerdy" will almost get you shunned forever. Thankfully it is not too hard to hide, with my love of sports, fitness, and current events, I can pass off as "normal" to most people. Although, I truly long for a day I can discuss such things without everyone laughing about how "he watches those chinese cartoons! How creepy!". |

They don't say crap after that ;) Meh, my friends don't say anything. They know it's something I love and have a passion for. They have their hobbies and I have mine. I've also gotten a few of my friends into anime and they keep coming back for recommendations. My family thinks its good that I have a hobby too. Sometimes they tease me that I'm a "geek", but not seriously. My older sister and brother thinks I'm cool for liking it, then again when your family thinks you're "cool" then your definitely the polar opposite. In the end, I think I'm a pretty cool person for having an anime/manga hobby since it's unique to most other people's hobby; which is usually "Reading books" and "Watching TV" (which I do aswell btw, the former more than the latter) and its what I feel that matters most. If it makes me happy, then so be it. At least I'm a lot happier than other people and their mundane lives, stressing about schoolwork and what not. |

| I get kind of annoyed when someone says "Why are you watching cartoon? It's for kids.", it's sad though, they're missing out on good anime by being ignorance. I recently shown some of my anime dvds to my cousin, like Perfect Blue, Grave of the Fireflies, Street Fighter films, Bokusatsu Tenshi Dokuro-chan and Bleach. He liked them all and it opened up more range of conversation we have now. I once got bullied at college for watching "kids show" and I was apparently mentally absent and retarded. One day I decided to put an AMV of Elfen Lied during college break, man, their faces was epic. After that, I didnt get bullied anymore lol The thing is, I think people rag on anime because they thinks anime is aimed for children. If they dont like it, they shouldnt shun/bully/make nasty remarks to the person who watches anime. What if people bullied them because they watch football? tl;dr: Ignorance = fail |
