I guess people that thinks that this season is boring because no Lena should stop watching the show. 86 is not only about a white haired waifu that has thic thighs. It's about war, loss, people overcoming and trying to seek a future within this war. Today's episode was fantastic.

In my opinion, the best episode so far... finally we can see what Frederica went through and a bit of her backstory also we got to see more of Shin's brotherly chemistry with her. Loved their interactions. As well as finally see that Lena is still being remembered by him and how much he might be worried about her (even though he doesn't show it externally).

That being said, I really love Lena as a character all her character development was so well done in season 1 that having glances of how she is doing is a bless. I strongly believe there will be more scenes with her, even if we've got few scenes, I'm ok with it, because this cour is mainly focused on Shin and the rest of the 86 gang + frederica + giade federation in general, which I think is a fresh air and give us another perspective and more introspection of the current state of the world and our main guys struggles and lifes.

Calm episode compared to the previous one after the tense events, but it had few movements was another episode with dialogues about the staff itself.

Pretty uneventful and boring episode as a whole, but not a pointless one either. I think if I cared for Frederica's character a bit, her backstory with Kiriya in her conversation with Shin might have kept me more emotionally engaged but since I'm not really a fan of her nor do I care much about that whole ordeal there, I felt kind of sleepy through that conversation. I don't mind the concept of a slow paced episode to breathe between the action, and it works for this kind of story. But because I wasn't that engaged in the actual cast and content for this episode as much, it came across flat for me personally. There's some subtle world building which I liked and the way the episode was structured with the calm before the storm was a way to indicate that shit would kick off with the next episode. Even got a little mini-segment of Lena post-credits with the ED song continuing into that one and shit isn't looking that amazing on her end.

Overall, this season continues to be a kind of lacking and boring season in terms of its content, but the anime studio continues to do a solid job when it comes to adapting the material. The uneventfulness of this episode was felt even more when I was reading the books and was even more boring there, but here it at least had some moments I did like in the anime. Hopefully the next episode picks up my interest a bit as it gets closer to volume 3 content.

Why a paragraph instead of saying straight it’s boring. Dude actual shit is going to take place soon just relax and enjoy.

Eh I wouldn’t bother with these. They read the source material and should obviously know what to expect, so the next episodes may not impress them either, anyways lol.
Which sucks because I read the volume myself and I found the anime’s take a lot more interesting, on the other hand, especially with the visual motifs with the crow and the moth in the spiders web.

The part where Shin actually yeeted Frederica towards Anju was pretty funny, in an episode that didn't have a whole lot going for it, other than quite some information, but also important information I feel.

I do miss our Major, but that small glimpse of her at the end of the ED gives me hope that we'll see more of her next week.

The loli queen even drinks coffee, but she still fell asleep right away.

A dialogue heavy episode, but the directing was nice. It didn't feel boring to me. I've been enjoying the focus on the Shin/Spearheads in the Federacy, but guess we'll finally see Lena on the next episode.

This cour has been absolutely solid so far. Imo it's more compelling than the first cour, in which I found myself getting bored and checking the time often. That's not the case here, I've become fully invested in this story.

This show would be better if Frederica was just not in it at all. She adds basically nothing. I would like the art style to have a little more flair too since it feels too bland for how great everything else is.

Weakest episode so far in the entire series. I wasn't expecting a dull ep like this after such a solid start this season.

Nothing significant happened. Considering the fantastic direction of the first cour, I'm surprised they just shoved in there such a long and confusing infodump with no visuals to help viewers process the events more easily. Also, no Lena again is pretty unsatisfying.

No visual aids? I get that it's just a talking episode but the visuals were on par with a regular 86 episode. And the end card always highlights the important moments in the episode, this case the crow and the moth, those scenes while they were playing were of particular importance because they gave the dread that might potentially fall the federacy/ kiri's state

Not sure why you're confused.

I never said the episode looked bad. I said that instead of a long ass infodump with Shin making coffee, they should have at least shown some of those events along with Frederica's narration.

That would have made things a lot easier to visualize. Considering how much this show has implied with just visuals on multiple occasions, I find it surprising they included a grand total of 0 images to illustrate her story.

I'm actually surprised they depicted it like they did as well. Federica was able to actually see the events through her powers, and when I imagined this scene being depicted in the anime I assumed they would have done it as a Federica POV, almost like a flashback.

It's a bit of a missed opportunity but theyve done everything else so well that I think it stands out

This show still doesn't do much for me, other than appreciating the animation and directing quality. Story wise, it's still slap bang average for me

Federica continues to be one of the most ridiculous and out of place characters in the history of anime.

Personally I think that Shin being alone in his 'empty room' with Frederica does emphasize on the point that she was always alone with Kiriya but hey, that's just me and always debatable if a flashback would've been preferred but the rest was still appreciable.

The 86ers here are holding a very important task, on this upcoming war. After all, Legions are made to fight humans, so it's Giad's task to know more about them and the juggernauts.

Frederica's conversation with Shin about Eugene was insightful. After it, she slept in Shin's arms. A little sister xD

I'm just waiting for Lena the Military Waifu to show up again.

I have to agree with the users above on one thing, I still don't understand the role of Frederica in the story, what's the point of having her? That's one thing that's been bothering me. Her presence might not feel forced, but her appearance in the show and involvement are sudden, almost unnatural.

Other than that, the story is getting more interesting. I highly doubt that Shinei is not thinking about the future. I wonder how big this war with the Legion will be and who they're going to send to the front lines, but I hope it won't just be the 86. I kind of feel they'll be fighting the Legion on the verge of losing, and the Republic will give them a hand. Direction and animation are, as always, impressive.
I sometimes forget to finish my sentences.

What makes Federica important to the story is she's the first character we've met other than Shin who has "powers". The ESP stuff and the importance of bloodlines will continue to be expanded on, they just haven't gotten to it yet.

Not gonna lie, this was a really boring episode. Though I guess it has to do with how uneventful it was.
As for its content, the part with Shinei and co. lowkey "shitting" on Grethe's efforts to provide them good vehicles wasn't fun at all and though Frederica's backstory was interesting to some extent, it keeps bothering me how jarring the change from bratty loli to mature ojou-sama is.

Naah wrong interpretation. She can only see PAST & PRESENT, not FUTURE . Now, since she knew Eugene, she could see his present situation also. That's why she saw him dying brutally and then she contacted Shin to give that info. This is what Shin meant in this episode when he said that line.

Another chapter that does not disappoint, I am surprised that the republic that is well equipped has many casualties, I am sure it is because the soldiers have not passed the standard procedures like the Eighty-Six, Federica's determination is well shown and it still seems to me missing part of the story of how the war started

Fantastic episode! It was more of a calm, build up and telling us all that we need to know kind of episode. I loved that presentation of the Reginleif- I mean Juggernauts (sorry Shin), those are specifications right from the LN.

Shin senses the Legion coming and it's a whole lot of them. Can't really blame the Federacy for not believing him, they think he does not have any basis. But it would be dangerous for them, especially for Shin if they told him about his ability. They can't really fully trust them yet. On the far west of the Federacy is the Republic where Lena is, also deducing that a whole lot of Legion is coming based on that map of hers. Shit's gonna go down in the coming episodes. Can't' wait.

Frederica got yeeted lmao.

Well they're back together for a reunion at least and Frederica is still as light-headed as usual talk about a lady

A lot of talking in this episode seems they're planning for a huge war in their hands, Glad they've focused on Frederica more to get at least an idea from her past

Shin is looking out for her well good for him he doesn't bore himself out from reading books all the time, It might be for the best to hide Shin's powers, or if he wants to be experimented be my guest.

Federation logic: "I am against sending children to the front", unless it's 10 years old loli with teddy bear. Ok she not fight directly, but the base may also be attacked. And these human teddy bears for eighty six soldiers? Wtf?

86 are "poor disadvantaged children"

After all, there are other young soldiers in the army like the eyeglass and probably hundreds of others - they don't understand that they are not children anymore or They don't feel sorry for their young soldiers?
since the federation's military academy accepted young people like an eyeglass, etc now they should not complain that "children should not fight" - these "children" met the academy's requirements and have training

how does sending "mascots" into the army fit with all this goodness and concern?
Seriously, the series threw us "loli on the battlefield boost motivation!"
This is so idiotic that it's ridiculous. The very role of Frederica in this series is a joke. They take care of her as if she were in kindergarten and then her character changes 180 degrees again.

oh my god who asked for a loli talking shit for 5 minutes that nobody cares about, could haave told the same story in 1 minute and i would have been happier knowing the context and not having to listen to that shit, honestly frederica is building up to be one of the most annoying character that i have seen, it feels so out of tone with the story
anyways, the episode was zzz, bunch of nonsense world-building, reinforced the almost dead concept of "wat will shin do X.x". Setting for a new hitting event, probably involving the blonde girl and hopefully creating something interesting in the relationships of trust in the federacy, agitating everything a bit. If they don't I would be disappointed

This episode was a lot slower compared to previous episodes but, the slow pace allowed for a lot of information. Kiriya's segment was quite nice; his descent into madness was ominous. A nice buildup episode for what's next to come.

I've got a feeling, a feeling I can't hide, oh yeah...oh yeah. There's gonna be a BIG BIG fight soon, and...down there at the end...please...don't make me think...that THAT will happen.

A build up episode that's for sure, and it's mostly just calm with some infodumps and planning for that big fight. Seems that they still can't believe what Shin's estimates are saying, yes he know the Legion too well, and that's what sets off the military. Also Raiden reminding him about that future and those powers, what a nice talk between them two. And lastly...LENA HAS BEEN SEEN AGAIN, even if its only for a few seconds, I still appreciate it.

Next episode should be...pretty mental. I hope someone don't die...please don't die whoever I'm thinking about right now. If you do, I'll be sad.

I really don't like the direction in which this series is going

Mascots are an actual thing even in our history, albeit children weren't used. The idea in 86 is that they're giving this as an option for those who were orphaned from the war, presumably suggesting the Federacy was previously severely lacking in resources to send them somewhere else like to a school, a boarding house. It benefits them when it's less people to take care of, while boosting the morale of their soldiers.

It's ridiculous because it is. The story never portrays this as a good thing anyway.

You're not supposed to like it because what comes out of war is ugly and despicable, and that's why 1) "mascots" are already a dying tradition in the Federacy and 2) as what Raiden mentioned, the Federacy aren't the saints they think they are. As to whether you have a good understanding of her character (not her "mascot" situation)... that's your problem to sort out.

Is it just me or did the art style change just a hair? Shinei looking extra... tasteful here. Also, feels like the VA has tried something different -- warmer?-- that I can't put my hand on.

Looks like the end(...beginning?) is coming soon.

Pacing is going well -- matching the pace of the novel, but my gods going to fight someone if I don't see this reunification soon. Seems like it'll be epic.

5/5 - although maybe it's my own anticipation that's clouding my judgement.

P.S. Stupid question, but is it inferred that Shinei sees Fredrica like Lena? Naive, but worth protecting? ...I feel like that was the assumption, but truthfully thought if Fredrica reminds us of anyone then it's Teppy the cat. Thoughts?

I know it's a buildup episode, a calm before the storm kind of deal, but it felt a tad on the boring side, They could have shortened the loli's monologue for example. I don't care much for her to be very honest ( I know that's not a very popular opinion around these parts).

I'd like to see a bit more of what's going on in the Republic. It's been too long since we've seen Lena which is pretty odd for a character that's front and centre in all the art and credits of the series.

the loli is kind of boring, but I admit that some lines are decent, it's probably a character that makes you think about the anime, since she speaks
