"Waifu culture is the voluntary withdrawal of people with social anxiety from traditional social and dating circles, instead fixating on a fantasy relationship with a fictional character. “

Nah, it's the work culture and competitive environment there because of which people are mostly in stress and that all add ups to no proper dating culture as men and women have different kind of set design inside their head so it's affecting birth rate so much so that japan is now predominantly a old age country.

Like 75-85 yr old are being helped by 60 yr old.
2025 might be the year where I will be happy. This year is not happy year.

No, it's because Japanese employees get payed shit so they don't consider having families. Them living single is already difficult enough, them having families won't even cross their minds.

I don't think Japan's birth rate decreasion has anything to do with mere 2D waifu affection.

And btw stop seeking attention with your pointless threads.

Yeah tbh that's part of reason for why isekai is so popular as most socially inept tries to find a way to get away from society and many are earning and have good bank balance but chose to stick this way and they find refuge in stories like isekai or most self insert anime/manga/LN

Yes it's definitely the fault of waifus, and totally not the insane work culture that Japan has.

yes, i think it has had its impact. Not THE main influence, but definitely affects it.

I feel that because I got into anime at a pretty young age, I've never been romantically attracted to any female. Never had a crush, no nothing. I feel anime is to blame.
I'm not complaining tho

Now i am more or less convinced in order to isekai boom to slow down japans work culture and such stuff needs to get better over time they seems too close to relate to each other than i previously thought.

No, the Japanese birth rate is already low without any waifu from their working culture and stressful environment.
Waifu is unrelated to their birth rate.

Well, I don't really think so... but at the same time I think so. Maybe the low birth rate started to be noticed around 2004 and the waifu culture was not as huge as it is now.

I would say it definitely has an effect but it isn't the root of the problem. Waifu culture is a side-effect of Japan's capitalistic system.

It's not the main cause, but it kinda gives it a push. Honestly, japanese are really too far up their asses, because they have garbage immigration policies.

Anime was it's best 20000 years ago, when cavemen drew art with real depth.
Modern anime is all garbage. I miss great old days of anime.

Personally I don't think that........ I don't know if others think in a similar way to or not but loving a 3d character is a phenomenon which is generally associated with someone who is new in this community, though there are exception. I mean just think about it, people tend to care less about fictional characters once they start looking for plot and quality of a show.

Secondly I think Japan is much more than just Anime & Manga, so I don't see it will affect them on such a large scale

I believe (as many have said already) it's to do with Japan's insane work culture. And while they do have some time to socialize (it's usually expected as part of their work) they probably don't have a lot of time to mix with the opposite sex. However I do think some of the Waifu culture stuff and merchandise, games/VNs with them in probably has some effect.

Also don't forget that some schools(i don't know how often this rule is enforced or how many schools have it) legit prohibit students from dating, so that definitely doesn't help.

Some of y'all really think all the Japanese do is watch anime and be influenced by it. The birth rate is declining because of the cost of living in Japan, especially in urban cities where rent prices alone are skyrocketing.

No, i think the work culture is more to blame. Japanese employees work insane hours, with all the time they spend having to work, they probably have very little time to actually have a relationship or have kids.
My waifu is the most wonderful waifu. Mai Valentine.

We're freaking out that we're running out of time, but to do what? Should i stop and think of that? Is there something i could do to slow it down? Live in a day for once, instead of watch it sprinting by

Well for one, the work culture has them working long strenuous hours; they're allowed to leave on time or even take vacation or sick days because of all the hours they've accumulate, but they don't out of fear of seeming disrespectful and often work over with no time to even think of dating.

Then there are the people who reject these society standards who then become neet, never to see another living person again.

Of course the next subject would be of school, right? Well the majority of schools in Japan actually ban dating. On top of that they have to worry about their grades and entrance exams and because of that, some students even choose to spend their free time in cram schools.

And then there are the 60% of men who identify themselves as herbivore men or men who desire no relationship, that being marital or sexual, with women whatsoever.

I wonder if the Japanese are even aware of this. Do the studies in Japan indicate it?

They are aware of the overall fact that they have a very low birth rate and why that is but I don't know if they're aware that a lot of the aspects of their culture in general has unseen effects towards being able to date.

For example, being quiet, polite, respectful, and keeping to themselves, all have effects on not wanting to be in a relationship or even what is happening in said relationship (not much) which could be discouraging for future ones and a lot of them see this as perfectly normal because of their typically reclusive nature.

Based off of what I've heard from other people with ties to anime in someway who are in Japan, the Japanese culture is a procrastination. Things that should be done quicker are taking ages. I'm assuming idea of progression is none existent when it comes to things like dating, filling documents and what not.
