I don’t know for certain since I rarely use reddit but I just don’t really like the use of voting, pretty much any unpopular opinion gets downvoted to hell even if the opinion is well written

The downvote/upvte option makes it a millions times worse a place for anime discussion, if it didn't have that then it would be a great place to interact simply for a being a thread focused website.

Yeah, it's decent as long as you don't care about some mere Upvotes and downvotes

It's good if you want to see the exact same thing said in multiple comments in multiple different ways. Everything else gets downvoted till they are never found.

Better than here it surely is. But then that's not saying much.

The upvote/downvote system makes it so that all the obvious shitpost gets filtered more easily, but that also means articulated but unpopular opinions can get downvoted as well. Also, the main anime sub is a mess, since it groups every kind of discussion into just one sub.

Most of them are causal morons i got downvoted for saying stuff like - regardless of pain and surrfering subarus return by death is a powerful ability in his own right and whinny cucks got mad because somehow my comment threaten their bs thinking of WOW REZERO GOOD BECAUSE NO OP MC etc etc (Dont know why)
Another instance was when i show bunch of dudes (who are bitching that muh every isekai mc is kirito copy) that multiple isekai exists where mc has 180 different looks and that looks are the least matter story matter most

Not recommended for discussion of your personal tastes, unless you are a masochist.
But it is useful for those people who can't live without approval. Also a good place to check news and useful information, find help to solve technical problems? comment something nice about it, or not. I mean, Just follow what the most upvotes say and you'll be fine (totally not biased) :v
It's a place to show off your stuff or acomplishments. Just post a picture of your collection or say "GUYS I JUST FINISHED MY 100TH ANIME" and people will upvote you. I personally avoid any interaction in there.
IMO if you are not an approval seeker or have something that's actually interesting to post, it is not even worth making an account there because Karma is everything. Maybe if you see a guy commenting something that's totally false and he is getting upvotes, then make an account and comment on it... You may get downvoted to oblivion and never come back lol. Its not worth it man, don't mind.

People overstate how bad downvotes are over there. Comments being sorted into their own threads is better for discussion.

I've seen some good discussion there so it's not awful. I'm sure like everywhere else, there's some downsides and some unlikeable people though

I think Reddit is decent for memes and whatnot, but not for discussion. The fact that there's a numerical value given to posts and accounts through upvotes, downvotes, and karma leads people to not speak their mind.

It's not like I'm averse to people being a bit more polite with their unpopular opinions, but to be forced to have to word every single unpopular opinion in a way that tries to make others not feel hurt is ridiculous and causes nothing but problems when attempting to discuss shit. It gets tiring not being able to speak your mind without people getting offended and pelting you with downvotes, and also that causes a psychological reaction and people are far less willing to actually share their honest opinions, even if the same people say "I don't care about the downvotes", it gets to people on a pretty deep level.

No matter how shitty many of the regular users are here on MAL, at least we can still have a proper discussion sometimes.

No. Reddit decides whether they like an anime or not, and if you don’t conform to that opinion you’re not allowed to partake in discussion.

I personally think it's decent. If you go to some subreddits dedicated for specific animanga for example (eg. r/Chainsawman, r/ShitPostCrusaders) then you'll most likely be fine. There's a lot of chill people there, great memes, and very cool fan arts/animations.

Though ofcourse, there are still toxic trash communities here and there that I'd suggest you avoid like: r/Titanfolk, r/Yeagerbomb, r/Re;Zero etc.

The karma system itself isn't all that bad as it tend to keep trolls and toxic people away from discussions but it isn't perfect either due to reasons already mentioned by rhe comments above.

My overall suggestion is to only follow subreddits of your favorite shows that you mostly got no criticisms about, and only use r/anime if you're looking for recommendations/suggestions as a lot of seasonals that are likely to get under the radar tend to get popular there (eg: Spring's Oddtaxi, last year's Akudama Drive).

Didn’t have a very good experience with r/anime, but I’m fully aware that’s not all of Reddit. What I do know is that the Karma system makes me feel like I’m walking on eggshells constantly.
