Why do anime characters state the obvious all the time? For whom does this appeal?

I mean look at this:

And then we get stuff like JoJo, or HxH, where every single thing is explained despite it being obvious from just looking at the screen. What is the appeal? What purpose does it serve other than the show looking down on their audience? Quite frankly, its insulting and very annoying. Seinen do not have that.

HxH needs explanation because Nen is quite complicated.
JoJo probably needs that because the characters do some random shit to outsmart the enemy and so narration makes it easy for viewers to follow. But it's a hit or miss when it comes to JoJo.

However, MHA doing that is quite annoying.

The "people die when they are killed" line makes sense in context.

This line is from Shirou, about surviving wounds that would otherwise be fatal if Avalon had not been inside of him. So when Avalon is removed, Shirou remarks that things are the way they should be now (people dying, when you kill them.).

Also in Japanese, there are two ways to describe death, one for body and one for soul. So you may kill one's body, but their spirit may still persist. This is where the phrases like "he won't die, even if he is killed" probably originated from.

Seriously? People still use that old-ass F/SN mistranslation meme as an unironic example of "bad writing" (even though it makes perfect sense in context of the scene and what he says immediately after)?

Another line that gets frequently taken out of context for the sake of meming, when in reality it was just Rin making a sarcastic quip at Archer for sticking to his dual blades despite his class. She was basically saying "oh, so you can use a bow."

When you have a birthday, you celebrate being born. – Shirou
He’s not going to die because of a little thing like being killed. – Erica

"When you have a birthday, you celebrate being born." also makes sense in context. It was a reply to the seemingly obvious question of what a birthday was, not sure what other answer people were hoping for. Any other answer would probably make less sense and only confuse the person who was asking. Don't know about the rest because I don't watch other Fate stuff.

Now I'm not sure if this is just lost in translation sort of issue, so I'm just gonna take what I've seen in anime as face value. Bad dialogue is one of the biggest issue anime faces as a medium. My guess is that the creators think the viewer is maybe not giving 100% attention to what they are watching, so they include stuff that states the obvious. They probably think the average viewer is multitasking work while watching anime or is a teenager that can't properly process what is happening on screen (people tend to think children are dumber than they actually are).

Cuz some things are complicated or the viewer is distracted.

I always thought that the main reason for this was to save the animation by giving planes to the faces of the characters thinking what they do, it is something like:

* incredibly animated scene in which MC hits the villain several times in a battle *
and then it goes into slow motion showing the villain's face saying things like "what? could he hit me? then I'll have to dodge him"

Some anime are targeted at kids therefore requiring some elaborating to keep them on track.

many anime have a bad habit of either overexplaining things or provide an insufficient explanation, there needs to be a more balanced approach.

watch more Original Anime because it has more Show and Dont Tell philosophy

Anime Adaptations source material usually have too much exposition like manga, light novel, visual novels

A lot of anime that is more mainstream or targeted for a broader/younger audience will do this more. Easier for kids. It's also helpful to disabled folks who may have a hard time following along, or are Neurodivergent.

In some cases it's a holdover from the manga. Some manga explain the action that is happening because it might be hard to depict. Then the anime just ports that over instead of using the medium to the fullest and just showing the action rather than telling. In other cases it's just a bad writing trend where it assumes the viewer won't understand anything without it clearly being told out loud to them.

Shoot first, think never.

It's not meant to appeal to the watchers, it's meant to be an explanation or exposition because trusting the watchers to be able to comprehend what they're seeing is overrated according to most mangaka.

Jojo is the exception from my snide and sarcastic remarks. It feels so old hat that even in the later parts it doesn't feel out of place and adds to the charm. Otherwise, I could do without it. I don't need another anime explaining to me how a character feels just because it's incapable of conveying how the character feels naturally.

I think they do it because a lot of people watching shounen anime in Japan are kids so they might need a more obvious explanation.
