I have some spare time in my hands after exams. So I thought I could binge watch an old popular series. Normally I get to see only 2 episode per day so I follow the season schedule and watch airing animes.
I was watching One Piece but after Drum Island I took a brake bcoz next arc is so f*cking big.
I wanted to watch Tokyo Ghoul long ego but didn't get the time and ratings are not that good (I am talking about all 4 seasons or 48 eps).
I have watched nearly all the highly rated Shounen shows (except AOT) and only people I see liking it are Beginners. I dont know why but veterans tend to hate it for some reason.
Again Seraph of the End is also hated by many but I liked it (Animations were superb🔥🔥). After liking that anime Netflix recommended me Tokyo Ghoul.
What is your review of Tokyo Ghoul, is it worth my time..? Or all the hate is just misleading.

Note: I saw many online posts where everyone saying Read Manga.
Well I prefer Anime over Manga coz it has Animation Sound music VA. The only manga I read was 'Iruma kun, Kaguya sama and Oyasumi Punpun' and I loved them but those are special. For the first two I was super curious after the anime and for Punpun I thought it was a comedy at first but it was kinda super depressing but loved it ♥️ anyway.

i recommend you to read the manga instead or just watch s1 and then read the manga because the other 3 seasons are a mess and they don't do any justice to the manga :/ they changed or immediately skipped lots of thing which are actually really important to the storyline so...
that's just my advice so if you want to watch the anime go ahead!! just know that manga and anime are two completely different things when it comes to tokyo ghoul :)

It’s not worth it, at least for me. The only good thing that came out of the anime was that it made me read the manga after hearing others say it’s on another level. I dropped it after the second season because I genuinely couldn’t force myself to watch it anymore. Everything was just a big, rushed mess, from the plot to the animation, with little to no depth whatsoever despite it supposedly being ‘dark and deep’. The manga has its flaws, but it’s still good overall and is a masterpiece when compared to the anime.

I’d say maybe just watch the first season, after the first season it just gets really bad. You could probably use your time a lot better if you dont watch the other 3 seasons

I think u should watch it. Maybe u could say I’m biased cus it’s one of my favorites but it’s not worth not watching just because people say it doesn’t follow the manga. I admit it does have plot holes and goes downhill at times and the manga is without a doubt better( I’ve read a lot more than what’s on my manga list) but TG is a show where if u like the overall story /themes and characters, you won’t wanna stop watching jus bc of the mistakes it makes. U said u watched a lot of the high rated shounen shows but just a heads up Tokyo ghoul is probably darker than what you’re used to but idk what else you’ve watched and it’s not too dark just don’t be surprised lol. Anyway hope u try it out n enjoy it but it’s not for everyone so it’s understandable if you don’t find it fun to watch.

The first season was really good. But it's quality declined from the second season. The second season took a different route from the manga and they skipped the ending in the manga. The third and fourth season(:re) is very confusing as they skipped the ending of the manga in season 2. They also cut many important scenes from the manga which makes you even more confused. The first season is definitely worth the watch but i don't recommend the other seasons.

I thought the first season of Tokyo Ghoul was great. The second season was pretty good as well. The last two seasons was not that good at all, in my opinion. But I do recommend you to at least watch the first season! I haven’t read the manga so I can’t really be mad over the fact that the show doesn’t follow the manga. I just think the third season went so bad and the story was just so weird in my eyes. But as I said, I do recommend you to watch the first season at least and if you enjoyed it, watch the other seasons!

The anime wasnt much impactful but the manga was pretty impactful and made the anime experience feel a little better after reading it. S1 was fine, S2 went offtrack but still was good enough but S3 was bit confusing initially. So decide for yourself, if you have time, then read as well as watch it.
PS : I watched it before reading...(The manga is one of my favourites)

It’s not that bad, just watch S1 and if you like it watch the rest it’s as simple as that^^
You will maybe find the beginning of VA (S2) confusing but it gets better and RE (S3 & S4) isn’t bad as well.
As for the manga, of course it’s very good but if you aren’t into manga that much you can probably find better (especially all the ending in the manga is messy and a bit rushed)

You can watch the first season and maybe the second but anything beyond that will leave you disappointed. I have very low standards for anime but the way they just gutted the story and episodes feeling completely unconnected really went even under my acceptance. The manga is supposedly good but i didn't read it so i cant comment on that

the first season can even be seen without problems but from the second season they starts to stop following the manga and the last two are almost incomprehensible because they rushed the manga story so much

Read the manga, the anime adaptations cut out a lot of content. If you still want to watch it animated then S1 is the only one that's an okay adaptation, but even that isn't good.

If u plan to watch the anime then absolutely not because season 2 is anime only and even as an anime only its trash and both re Seasons are rushed and fit 170 or so chapters in 24 ep. If u plan to read it(just reconsider it) its an amazing story with one of the best protagonists.

I believe it is a pretty good introduction to 'Gore' as a genre. The story and characters are nothing out of the ordinary, and overall a pretty okay show. But Just a heads up, if you're not reading the manga side by side, you'll be lost. Like a LOT. If you're not into that, better to stay clear.

There are indeed reasons why the anime adaptations get so much hate:
- The story is a combination of many different arcs and scenes into one big mess which makes no sense at all.
- Not did it all just get fused into one pile of sh*t but almost all important decisions and elements for reasonable character developments has been changed into something which is not even recognisable as Tokyo Ghoul anymore.
- Annnd a lot of scenes were completely ignored and skipped.
People say you can watch at least season 1 but I remember watching it with disappointment because there were already quite some changes (not as extreme as season 2 tho).

So, is the anime worth it? No.
Manga? Yes.

season 1 is worth it.

Season 2 ruins the story and characters.

Haven't seen RE.

Recommend just reading the manga tbh.

Short answer? No. Long answer? Noooooooo. Now seriously, don't bother, the first season is alright, personally I didn't enjoy the pacing and it's a little too edgy for me, and then looks like the anime go crazy and doesn't really adapt the source material in a good way and turns it into a shitty mess so I didn't really care for seeing an end to it. There's a lot better out there, both new and old, popular and obscure, I felt like I wasted my time on it instead of watching better shows at the time, when I decided to watch Tokyo ghoul right after season one was complete I gave it a go BEFORE Hunter x Hunter (2011), Stein's Gate and Neon Genesis Evangelion (which were the ones I watched right after), wish I didn't waste my time on TG

Season 1 was good, 2 was Ok. But season 3 and 4 just seemed to completely and weirdly side track and 180 the entire story, this also goes for the manga imo story wise it just takes a really weird turn and it feels like it was just done to extend it.

I’d say just read the manga, after reading the manga I rewatched it and it was way worse than I remembered, I wouldn’t even say season 1 is worth it because so much content is cut that it’s just a disservice.

To give you a real answer, not “read the manga”, try it. Attack on Titan as well. Both are worth your time. If you don’t like it, drop it. I liked both series a lot. Tokyo ghoul less so, but it was still good.

The story made little sense, especially on season 2, but I loved it regardless. The anime has a lot of things unexplained, but I still greatly enjoyed watching it. There are more characters that are memorable than most other anime I have seen. If you don’t like to watch an anime that does a terrible job at explaining what you should know, I wouldn’t watch it. The story has a dark feel to it, but also a feeling of hope. And nothing seems too outrageous in comparison to some other anime. I haven’t seen past season 2, because I heard the story gets even worse than season 2, so I stopped where it left off pretty alright for the Tokyo Ghoul anime standard.

Not worth it! I only watched the first season and it was really underwhelming (with the exception of the first and last episodes). From what I've read, the sequels were even worse because they deviated from the manga and then followed the manga again. Overall, a really messy adaption.
This said, I would definitely recommend you to watch Parasyte! It has a smiliar concept (mc becomes a monster) and it's soooo well done!

I've only watched 1st anime season and I enjoyed it. I will read the manga next, since I know that further adaptations are problematic. After that, we'll see, maybe I'll watch the rest of anime as well.

So, I think you should also either watch only the 1st season or just read the manga and skip anime entirely, those seem to be the best options.
