Go to hell, Makoto!

Great episode, it was awesome seeing Shion win against Satoru. He looks like he's pissed and found some things out and now wants to deliver a blow against his brother too. That's how I interpreted his last line towards Shion. Not liike that would make him any better in my book or anything.

I'm very much looking forward to more.

That was great ^ . :D

That was intense. The match was great. And the Saito/Shion moment was very cute. Loved how Shion blushed like that.

It looked like that was Hani-Meijin at the end throwing away the tape of Shion at Christmas eight years ago. Perhaps he was taking one last look at the past that his brother is stuck in? Unless they introduce a new character as the murderer, I'm pretty sure it was the Meijin now. Also, when he told Satoru "You have no idea how I've lived since I've left you" it had an ominous feeling to it.

Overall good episode as usual. Now, that it's certain that only 4 episodes remain, I'm sure the rest of the way will even more intense. Definitely looking forward to it.

Well, there's a super high possibility that the Meijin is the killer now, unless they decide to throw in another curveball. Shion realized that she played shougi with the killer and that her shougi binds her with him and now we find out that Shion's and the Meijin's shougi are similar? Yeah.

Shion is just too cute.

On a different note. I don't like Saitos new look. :-(

well now that it seems super obvious that the Meijin is the killer I kinda doubt he is. I doubted Satoru was ever the killer because of how obvious it would have been. Also I think Saito was animated way way way better this ep than he was for 17 so that was good. Anyways great ep~ expecting another twist tho

Quite the interesting episode, I was quite surprised that Shion actually won the match. In either case I didn't mind who won, because I was looking forward to both seeing a match between the Hani brothers or Shion with the Meijin – especially now since the last scene of this episode was quite ominous.

The last scene was quite interesting, just what is the relationship between the Hani brothers and Shion's family – especially why would the Meijin have a video cassette of Sion's birthday/Christmas. I'm not quite sure that he's the murderer, but I have a feeling that he's connected somewhat to it.

Although, my favourite scene would have to be the Saitou and Shion moment – I especially liked how Shion reacted when Saitou dropped the suffix/honorific when calling her name. I also liked when in mid-crisis during the match Shion thought of Saitou and her adoptive father as her anchor to give her strength during the match.

All in all, it's a rather interesting episode and I look forward to the next – there isn't any more left! =)

That has been the pattern so far. Build suspicion, then direct it elsewhere.

I think we need Katsuragi Yako to come tell us who the murderer is.

Hanin wa.... omae da!

I still wanna know why the meijin did it.

just finished watching episode 18. it's pretty clear that makoto is the murderer. but i don't understand the motive. could it be that makoto was also in love with kazumi? and then, who would leave one's necklace after having murdered someone? i thought it was a very good episode. the tension between shion and satoru was quite something. i used to despise satoru but i am revising that view. makoto was a likeable character, helping saori, offering ayumi to be his disciple (i found that suspicious) but now it seems weird to think that he is the culprit. i also did not like the attitude of asking ayumi to breathe the same air as him for 1 year. poor saori! she'll be in a shock when she knows the truth!

Chibi Shion at the end on the video was cute. Those big jolly eyes lol.

This episode was awesome. Shion taking the victory over Satoru was a great comeback. It pretty much wiped the arrogance off Satoru's face. Now, is Meijin the murderer? I've had my suspicion on him for a while. He has the physique of the killer and the cold eyes.

So Satoru was just one big red herring after all. And all signs point to Hani-Meijin now.

In the end, Satoru was just caught in the past, not getting any stronger from the deaths of his parents or lover. You'd have to feel sorry for him at least a little bit. His actions throughout this tournament were just cries for attention. Whether it was to get Shion to recover her memories or not, I'm still unsure.

Unless something drastic happens, I'm 100% sure that Hani-Majin is the murderer. Motives, his past, and his previous master (Kamizono didn't accept him, so who taught him? I doubt he did it himself) are all things that need to be answered though.

So yeah, another awesome episode, with a cute scene with Shion and Saito. It's been a while since we've seen one of those.

I was shocked when I heard Satoru say that Shion's shougi is like Hani-Meijin's, especially with the clip that looked like he was watching Shion's Christmas tape. However, as most people said above, I'm being cautious suspecting him this time around just in case they're throwing another curveball at us.

All Points directly to the Meijin (something that i had expected) we just need the motive and the reason behind the Pendant since Satoru didn't knew that Shion had one pendant too.

With the Meijin as the murderer being so frigging obvious that you begin to doubt it, and looking for other people who could have done it, the only direction I can point is the still unknown master of the Meijin. With the only clue for that being Shion and Makoto's shougi being similar -_-

edit: nevermind, would only make sense if Makoto's shougi from -after- abandoning Satoru would be like Shion's. I doubt he sneakily had a master during that time and ditched the guy to try and become that other guy's (who's name I forgot) apprentice.

I've been feeling bad for Satoru for a couple of episodes, now I just wish I could give him a hug =(

Poor Satoru, but I kinda impressed with his remark that he will find shion parents' murderer. Well at first I driven into thinking that Meijin the killer, but I think that's not enough to make Meijin as the suspect.

And really a parade of Kawaii Shion-chan in this episode yay

That was just an epic episode. It is so clear now that the Meijin is the killer. Ans satoru has got to be the best thought out character in this whole show, (except from the meijin, if he turns out to be the murderer) mean and arrogant at first making everybody (or many at least) think that he's the murderer. Then this shocking news about who's the actual killer. I bet satoru think's /suspects that his brother is the murderer or at least has something to do with it. Ooohh.. I can't wait for ep 19. I really hope they sub it soon!!

That scene at the end with the meijin made me pretty positive that he was the murderer but I don't know if that was too obviouse... so now im confused. He has no reason that we know of x___x
His last name sounds like the word "murderer" though!
Hani - Hanin???? xD

According to a post dated on the 22nd of March on the Live-eviL website, the main translator for the anime is currently in the process of moving internationally and is quite understandably extremely busy. We are reassured that releases would resume once things settles down a tad. You can read the post here.

Hopefully, we should see a release soon! =)

Shion is just too damn cute.

Loved this episode. I regard Satoru just a tiny bit higher now. He's still an asshole overall though.

I think Satoru's backstory is teary enough that we can forgive his bitterness, especially if his "cruelty" to Shion was trying to provoke her memories.

Shion is just one of those characters that is so pure and forgiving that it makes it hard for you to hate Satoru even after all of the cruel things he's done to her. At least, that's the way it is for me.

Ayumi and Shion are cute together.
We were all looking to the wrong brother, Satoru was cold because of what happened to him, and Makoto was being calm coz he is a killer...

There's no way Meijin isn't the killer, even before this episode it seemed glaringly obvious, there are soo many giveaways.

1 - He has access to the association to steal the mobile phone
2 - He has a messed up life devoid of love "you dont know how ive lived" blabla
3 - He's a shogo pro, which narrows it down a lot, the killer beat that internet kid right?
4 - The cutscenes with the killer always have that same hair color
5 - The killer is probably somewhere close to shion. That's how he was able to call her as soon as she remembered something and he knew which phone to steal etc
6 - The room with Xmas vid is the same room we've already seen Meijin in, also we already saw meijin using computer which he would need to play internet shogi
7 - Having lost his own parents in a similar way he devoted his life to shogi, he probably trying to mold shion to be another prodigy
8 - The connection to the murder of his brothers wife is obvious!
9 - "He had beautiful fingers" like Satoru, they are brothers after all
10 - He was interested in Shions matches since the very first moment she started going to the association
11 - The final battle is obviously vs the murderer, its just a natural climax

That's off the top of my head, it's almost TOO obvious tbh, especially after this episode

Satoru as culprit was my first thought, even if it would've been too obvious. Then again, many characters acted suspicious in the beginning. He could've made up for the lack of surprise factor by being a fascinating antagonist.

Now it's pretty much confirmed that it's the Meijin. As for the motive. It's as straight forward as it is insane. Shion was being groomed to be the ultimate challenger. It's the same motive I originally had in mind for Satoru, with the difference that I suspected him to be more of a sadist who took pleasure in tormenting Shion on top. All for the sake of coping with his own past, or so I thought.

I'm surprised Shion won, though even with her current strength I don't know that she can beat Makoto.

Seems like a lot of people believe Makoto to be the murderer. At this point, if it isn't him, I guess it'll be someone extremely random, which would suck. But, at the same time, I feel like his motive is shaky at best.

Hopefully this will reach a satisfying conclusion..

Excellent match. The suspense of who would win was palpable throughout.

Signs are pointing towards Meijin as the culprit, and his earlier interest in Shion and tendency to have people drop dead around him already made him a key suspect.

Shion was blushing a lot around Ayumi. Maybe she finds his new look especially charming.
