Great episode, first half with the light-hearted comedy and bath scene was hilarious. I really love the interactions among the squad, they all seem like fun people to be around. But from the title and intro I knew something was going to happen towards the end and wow...that last minute was insane. I wasn't particularly saddened by her death since the anime barely showcased her character, but the result alone is definitely going to leave a massive impact.

Love the ED and huge props to Theo's VA for bringing such emotion to the character. My heart sunk when he said, "You've never even asked us for our real names," that's a real blow and really highlights Lena's hypocrisy. Damn. Not like it's truly anyone's fault, but from the different perspectives you could definitely empathize with both parties. This is already shaping to be my favorite anime of the season (alongside Vivy), definitely looking forward to next week's episode.

We have another very interesting episode... This time we have some idea of what those 86 are thinking while they are on the battlefield, and that last part is so intereating, lets see what she will do about it

The girls having some fun in the river while being spied on by the guys, hardly anything new, but still fun nonetheless.

What I loved of this episode is the talk between Lena and the 86, but given from two perspectives. Kirschblute with the very bold question "You're a virgin, aren't you?" to Lena was a bit surprising, but I got what she was trying to say.

Then the battle happened and rip Kirschblute. Just after that little bonding she had with Lena, it had to be her who had to die..

The scene after the ED was sending shivers down my spine, Lena totally broke down after getting absolutely destroyed by Theo. Props to the VA there. That was a solid performance.

They absolutely nailed it with this episode, and it was a real bold choice to show the battle from Lena's perspective. It really makes her hopelessness/isolation come across

So I agree with you're point 1, but its a bit of a flaw in the novel as well I guess. Point 2 will probably be shown in the next episode. It's sort of part of a bigger reveal. Point 3, it's just not that kind of book or show. Anju being even more clothed than the rest of them is a small plot point that pops up later though.

The episode may or may not have been funny, but it's definitely funny to me that you think you were supposed to feel teary eyed sad from her death. I mean, why would they even show her death from Lena's perspective in this episode if they wanted the death to have an emotional impact? Maybe... just maybe the scene was more about Lena and the 86 than about Kirschblute and her death.

great episode once again. we go to see a part of the unit's daily lives, and most of them are warming up to lena already. though some of them hasn't, causing one of them to lash out to her after the ed. understandably so, with valid points made. with "real names" as the next episodes title we're definitely gonna get closer to the unit so i cant wait for that !

Once again, they showed a scene at the end of the credits that could've been shown before. I don't get this decision.

Anyway, really great episode especially towards the end. I love how this show tackles themes of racism and kinda reminds me of the racism here in America in some ways. I can't wait to see all the snowflake alt-right weebs get pissed off at this

She really messed up with those maps...I KNEW that there was gonna be some problem with her not being able to get accurate info off the maps. So far this show is pretty predictable but still interesting given the racism/prejudice/discrimination is so alive and well IRL. Also her dynamic with the unit is so complicated and reached a tipping point when she got called out for being a hypocrite. She really needs to figure out what to do to create change although she's probably gonna be shipped out to 86 if she keeps pushing her anit-racist Ideals.

Lena is every activist before they actually become an activist. Meaning that she is an idealist, she is naïve, and she may inadvertently be perpetuating the same cycles of abuse she thinks she's fighting.

From what we've seen so far we know that her views are not really radical: all humans deserve to be treated equally and the 86 are human.

However she's a woman in a rather prominent position of power, disconnected from the true atrocities of war and the hardships of life outside the walls, sending innocent people off to their death. Asking those very same innocent people how their day is every night doesn't really change the fact that she's part of the reason they're condemned to die.

Theo is hurt, he's angry, he's grieving and lashing out. And he's absolutely correct in what he's saying. Lena is an idealist but her actions are that of a hypocrite.

She needed a wakeup call and while Theo's was hardly the best option, now that it's happened it's up to Lena to decide what to do with this shift in perspective.

I'm excited for the next episode. The non-linear narrative guarantees we'll see the Battle from the 86's perspective and I can't wait to see the battle. But more importantly, the way the relationship between the 86 and Lena will change is what has me truly at the edge of my seat.

Its interesting we got to see Lena's perspective first of the battle. Really puts it into perspective she and the other Alba's really don't know what's going on the battlefield, don't even use cameras to see the units perspective, seem to rely on radio comms and satellite positioning to monitor both allies/enemies.

Hopefully get to see the 86 perspective next week.

I don't know if i'm 100% sold on this mulit perspective jump cutting around , even in the off chance that us seeing it from Lena's viewpoint is to showcase how really distanced they are i guess it worked because it wasn't remotely impactful i didn't even know most their names till this episode and was waiting to see who it was at the start.

nothing to say about the post credit rant it was needed and he ant wrong and she got rolled hard now the question is what's gonna happen to her naivety going forward to actually change.

Very idling in the first half for SoL stuff. The second half tells how Lena interacts with the Squadron but alot dialogues aren't interesting generally or perhaps is too soon for this kind bonding of episode. But the criticism at the end of the battle I wonder why is Lena and the Squadron act like the first time this had happened. Story is definitely not getting anywhere being told in this episode. Hope for the best next time.

Best episode so far, I'm glad to see Spearhead having fun, and Kurena kinda cute.

I like their communication between Lena and Spearhead, they talk about random things and we're also shown two POV.

And, this episode is very emotional because of Kirschblüte's death. It's sad to hear that when Kirschblüte spoke, she didn't want to die.

This episode was absolutely amazing, I had shivers down my spine towards the end.

I really liked the different perspectives we got in this episode switching between Lena, and the squad. It was nice to see everybody just talk, without having the focus be on war and battle. This is definitely looking like one of my favorites for Spring 2021

Damn what a ride this was... the fanservice from the girls playing in the river was a hell of a calm before the storm scene. I dont really feel that bad for the spearhead girl dying, but the way the scene played out and the ed song got me good, also that last scene.. that fcking rant was beautiful, I kinda felt bad for Lena, albeit not the best but she is trying the best she can for them, yet she got that kind of treatment at the end... while sure their friend just died so I dont really blame him for snapping at her.. damn feels bad for both sides... Also, some of you LN readers need to fcking chill, just because the anime is edgy doesnt mean u get a free edgy pass yourselves, drop this shit if you’re gonna complain like a spoiled brat just because u want a 1:1 adaptation.

Angry boy snaps and makes naive 16 yo girl cry. She didn't ask for their real names? Holy shit, she's indeed the worst hypocrite among hypocrites!
So... Lena entering the battlefield as an 86 foreshadowing?

Honestly, I should pay more attention to who the hell is who here but learning code names is such a pain when you don't care about the characters...

Okay episode again. Comedy continues to be quite awkward but I'm liking the idea of switching between perspectives so far.

The first episode made it clear what kind of show I was getting into but I really don't want to see them die :(

I had so much fun with the first part watching the girls have fun. Anju is top tier waifu (I can't against Hayamin's voice xD) and Kurena is cute af! I love them already...

And then Kaie died. I have to admit that given how little time we've known them and that her death wasn't seen from the battlefield POV, it didn't hit that hard. But Kaie was the girl who screwed up in the previous episode, teased Kurena in this one and was nice to Lena, I already liked her, so it definitely sucks and it's sad that she's gone.

The post-credits scene was brutal in a different way, damn.

Honestly can't blame both parties. Lena might seen from squadron perspective as someone who just like the other alba's with the different not calling them 86. However, Lena herself doesn't appear physically on the frontline so she couldn't know what the rest of the squadron really think and feel. I think this scene is trying to depict just how complicated the relationship is at this kind of situation.

However, it is the only notable scene so far with the first part just show another lighthearted sequence.

I was thinking this, too. Lena is getting a lot of flak for being naive and idealistic (which she is), but not getting any credit for doing what she can to fight against a system that - true, she benefits from, but she didn't put in place. She's trying to change that the only way she knows how.

I think it's interesting that they chose to show Kaie's thoughts and feelings on the Alba. "I know not all Alba are bad people, just like not all 86ers are good people." It's clear that while Kaie understood the reality of the situation, she also realized that the whole thing is more complex than it looks at first glance.

I have mixed feelings about Theo's rant at the end - he wasn't wrong, and I know it was coming from a place of honesty and emotion, but I still have mixed feelings about it.

Exactly, why should I care about some random ho when I barely see her for like what, not even 3 eps? As for the graphic death, nowadays most anime are kids friendly, Dai no Daibouken suffers heavily from that rainbow and sunshine policy.

And yes crappy fanservice and that perv routine of watching girls bathing is getting overly stale at this point, the girls are even in their pants ffs most likely another result of E-for-everyone policy

I'm not even sure what this show is trying to do at this point.... a mech show? No way cuz the mech looks like dog poop... action show? Not quite there yet as 70% so far was about social interaction... a dorama show? Most likely the correct answer but they should've tried to insert the dorama later on and get the viewers more attached and engaged to the characters first before killing them off within 3 eps

I wouldn't even call this a "rushed Gundam" show cuz the lore is laughably simplistic and the mech is absolutely horrendous... but who knows maybe we'll see better mech models soon I hope

This shows that discrimination goes both ways. Even victims of discrimination can and may discriminate against people who discriminate them.

I've seen claims that black people will never ever discriminate against anyone because they are common victims of it. Obviously, this isn't true. When you hate and mistreat someone, you cannot expect that person to not feel the same kind of hatred towards you.

Man, that ending was satisfactory as fuck. Theo went all in and said exactly what I've been thinking the whole time. Really hate whenever anyone acts like Lena here. Acting all supportive and nice, thinking she's helping and being a better person because of it and all. People like that leave even more of a shitty taste in your mouth than the people who are just acting like jerks outright. Glad she finally got a dose of realisation.

Wonder how she'll try to repair their relationship now. If I was her I wouldn't have the balls to call again after something like that but she probably will cause people rarely change lol.

1. Kaie death isn't really meant to only serve as sad or crying scene, her death have 2 additional purpose. To slap Lena with Theo angry rant, and

2. From what I and probably you also see so far, I assume they will show her battle and death on next episode instead of this episode because of the 24 minutes TV limit.
3. That part is small point needed for the future to

4. No comment.

On a related note, I do wonder what exactly Shin does to Handlers that's so powerful that Kurena refers to it as "breaking".

There's clearly something off about him which is probably connected with what Raiden said to him at end of episode 1 in relation to Kojo but I still can't figure what exactly.

Also I guess the glasses dude in the OP is the one who saved Lena, judging by her scribbles in her notebook this episode.

I don't understand how this whole "chain of command" works in this world !!? How is it possible the "Processor" talk back with their superior. And when one of their comrades is dead (in this case Kirschblute, RIP)I'm really surprised one of them act all bitchy like that with the "Handler" ?? Does he realize this is war ?? People die all the time, so don't blame the "Handler". And also the whole PTSD thing is bullshit, not just to Lena but her predecessor

Seriously whoever wrote this story I suspect he/she never serve in the military and also have limited understanding about racism

I was thinking about some personal matters, so I didn’t have time to notice that at some point the girl would pull out a typical "when the war is over, I..." card. I don’t know what my impressions would have been if I had noticed this earlier.

But I am interested in several other questions. Didn't Lena already have the experience of losing the 86s? As far as we have been given to understand in past episodes, all albino know that they are in command of living people. This scene was so melodramatic, as if it was the first death in Lena's life in general.

And yet, did I understand correctly that the chef-kun has a thing for the local oneesan? In front of the stage there was some kind of teasing about this, but in the scene itself it was not visible any of his special relation to her. Maybe she's just a local beauty?

You forget that they are literally forced to fight and that before Lena no one literally even considered their lives to be the lives of real, living people. This is not even a call during the war, they are literally forced to be cannon fodder with "please die for us."

Look even if they are not forced to fight, those Legion are coming to kill them so in a lot of way they don't have a choice but okay they are forced I get that. But it's very weird they can talk back or even say all those things to their "Handler", I thought she is their superior ??? So like I said "I don't understand their of command". She gives an ORDER and they FOLLOW, isn't that how it works ??

And also it makes no sense that Lena predecessor suffered from PTSD, the Alba don't care about the 86 people right ?? So how did they suffered from it ?

1. You may already know or notice that this anime adaptation use a long continuous PoV format instead of the usual short mixed PoV format. So I'm sure they will show it on next episode. If not, fuck the production team.

2. "the girls are even in their pants ffs most likely another result of E-for-everyone policy". In the LN they also wear their pants, why? You ask? Did you see them ready to fire their pistol, and the dead wild boar earlier? Yeah, better safe than sorry if some wild animals suddenly attack them.

3. These 'dog poop' are made by the racist white republic people, you expect them to make something good for sub-human they hate?

4. Kaie death is needed for 2 additional reasons aside from sad factor, the 1st reason is to mentally slap Lena now instead of letting her personality (which may piss some people off) stay like that for another 2 or 3 episodes. And the 2nd reason is to introduce

5. You will see better mech model, but in the 2nd cour.
