This may be low-key one of the most important episodes of the whole series, as it really drives home the message I think this show is trying to get across. How generations of people can be stuck in an endless cycle because of long held grudges and habits, and how people can influence those beneath them in varying ways to potentially challenge that cycle. At different points in this episode we see this idea portrayed, with Hange realizing the meaning behind that torturer's words back in S3 and that she essentially has taken the baton from him by continuing what the old Paradise government got away with. Or how Mikasa and Sasha both influenced the newer generation into becoming who they are today, with one seeking to fight for what matters and the other wishing to become a better and more reliable person. And of course the scene between and Gabi and Kaya, with the world's propensity for holding innocents to their ancestor's sins being on full display. It's a vicious cycle that won't break easily, and the sad part is that it's hard to know if it's really the right thing to do at this point. I want to say yes obviously, as a cycle of unending hatred is of course a terrible thing, but things have gotten so far and become so ugly that I can understand why Eren and others see violence as the only way out. It really encapsulates humanity as there is a slight glimmer of hope with people who can change, but unfortunately on a grander scale that hope will likely get buried under the despair that all these years of hate and blame have built up to. A light at the end of the tunnel isn't out of the question, but things will likely get a lot worse before they can get better.

Yup, this episode in the manga is what made me appreciate aot more by the way it’s tackling its theme and successfully shows how ugly a cycle of hatred can be

i stlll hate gabitch but still it was a good ep and my only problem with it is that it ended too fast and now i have to wait for a whole bloody week
things are movie towards what possibly could be the last arc for this season considering there is only 5 ep left so i guess aot final season would end with a bang
didn't get to see ereh this season but well the next best thing was floch and i was pretty surprised with his character bcz it looked so cool and what was that sudden flashback with mikasa i think something's gonna happen with her too i hope its good
ok than see ya guys next ep after a bloody week

This episode was so heart tearing.
Hange, I really feel for you, remembering good old days of titan experiments.
I understand Gabi's mind. But she's earning my hate slowly. She sounds like SJWs who say if you are prevailaged, you must feel guilty.
Signs of mutiny and rebellion in military. So they've been planning this with eren from a long time.
Falco needs to be protected. This boy is embodiment of hope and optimism.
The girl shasha rescued was the one living with Mr. Brouse. Shasha's death was sad, but isayama doesn't want me to move on.
Amazing episode.

Anime was it's best 20000 years ago, when cavemen drew art with real depth.
Modern anime is all garbage. I miss great old days of anime.

damn this episode was so good, some interesting shit going down inside the survey-corps with those new recruits and floch; mikasa's flashback too. kinda sad seeing that random garrison shoulder die but it was nice following gabi and falco around and it was really a surprise to find out that girl was the one who sasha saved back then, rip sasha once again. those conversations they were having and all that other stuff was really captivating too. also, that post credit scene though...

Very interesting indeed, and so far I have to side with Floch and co because they're the only ones actually taking action for Paradis. Hange and co have just gone through the motion, not providing any solution whatsoever. They have not engaged in any diplomatic negotiations or anything. It's like they just accepted their fate. Regardless, Willy Tybur definitely ruled out diplomatie before the whole world, and Eren heard that loud and freaking clear.

There's a chance I'm repeating myself lol but this was definitely one of my fav episodes in this season so far. MAPPA absolutely killed it.

I know a lot of people hate Gabi but from my in this case more objective view I liked that we finally got to see her and Falcos PoV. She's the perfect example what can happen to a young naive and stubborn girl who thinks everything what Marley does and did is right whereas Falco is the complete opposite. He understands the whole situation so much better. Best example was the scene where Gabi didn't want to take off her armbarnd. She doesn't even realize how crazy she acts.

Damn Paradis now even has a flying boat? Crazy how much can change in 2 years.

I feel sorry for Hange. She's in the by far worst position atm. With all what's going on atm I can't blame her for feeling tired. But I'm impressed by Floch. In seasin 3 he was such a wimp + not to forget he didn't like Eren at all and now all of that changed completely.

Oh boy Mikasas PTSD kicked in. I wonder if realized something from that scene of the past where Eren killed those 2 men.

Nice to see that Pixis want to found out what caused Eren to do his own thing. From what we could her in the little scene with him and Yelena there's a possibility she's responsible for it, but at the same time I'm don't really believe it. What could she possibly have said to Eren that he suddenly shits on all the things that were important to him before? There's definitely need for clarification.

The scene with Gabi and the horse was pretty funny. DESERVED Gabi, the horse knew :D

I loved the scene where Kaya showed Falco and Gabi the place where her mother died and what happened there 4 years ago. And fucking finally someone confrontated Gabi with the truth. I believe so far there was nothing more satisfiying than seeing Gabi running out of her stupid arguments. I felt a little sad when Kaya was speaking about Sasha rescueing her before the titan and how she wants to become a person like Sasha. Was a nice touch how they transitioned from there into the ED.

Maybe this conversation was first step to open Gabis eyes. To understand that the people on Paradis aren't devils like she got told in Marley all her life.

Not surprising Marley found out about Zekes betrayal. What I didn't expect was Reiners request to launch an surprise attack. I don't think Paradis would be prepared for this. Just from the preview I can tell the next episode will be an intense one.

Like I wrote at the top, MAPPA again did an incredible job. But the VA's are just out of this world. They put so much love and effort into their roles and I just love the atmosphere they create and the feelings I get from important scenes, like the one between Kaya and Gabi as one example from this episode. So a big KUDOS to them.

This was a really good episode for something that could look like filler on first glance. It really drove home the core messages, dilemmas and positions of multiple groups.
I got to say I feel really bad for Hange, she's like the person being forced into a promotion at work where they are capable but do not have passion for the position. All her spunk has gone but she is still trying find as peaceful a solution as possible despite everything.
I think since Moblit died she needs Levi by her side more than ever

I'm really loving them showing previous characters I'd honestly overlooked. Bringing them into the story really makes me sappy. I feel as though at the end of every episode I'm in tears. Attack On Titan really knows how to move me in the simplest and saddest ways yet.

The episode itself was a good grasp for Gabbi to begin realizing the truth. I hope that she gets better. The actual development of the episode is... meh in my opinion. I'm enjoying the hell out of it, talent and work done is incredible.

Though, there are only 5 episodes left and as a non manga reader, it makes me wonder what could possibly happen with such little time. After all, it feels like not much has truly gone down. Not psychically anyways. It kind of feels like we're stuck in a rut of politics again? As if these past two episodes have been buffers for progression. Could just be me though ??

Damn, sh**s going down again soon, last 3 episodes was world building, very good world building explaining some of the past events and giving depth to more characters albeit not important it really just gives depth to the whole anime.

Now that I think about it, looking back at 3 seasons ago, this is a considerable amount of difference now, damn.

It's very good.. But it's not the best anime ever. Some parts in previous season's were to inconsistent to make it perfect..
But it rightfully joins all the anime that changed the way people at the medium such as Akira, Ghost in the shell, Cowboy bebop and a small group of other ones.

Still not sure about how I feel about Gabi. Hopefully, I hope she will have a less biased view on Elidians eventually since her arguments for hating all paridis Eldians don't really work. Gabi killing that prison guard wasn't pleasant to watch (it was quite brutal). Really liking Falco's more open perspective of viewing the Eldians. I hope he doesn't get killed off.

Good episode, but the action is definitely going to pick up again next episode. I can't wait! These episodes all seem way too short.

Don’t have any nitpicks tbh. They adapted what they had to accurately, and next week should be a banger. They also included a post credit scene from Marley’s side. The voice actors went above and beyond in this episode.

We also got a glimpse of the King of all kings

And they adapted the Gabi horse scene, based MAPPA.

Edit:
Sourire said:
My only complaint after rewatching was Omine’s directional decision to cut important dialogue in Hange’s and Floch’s conversation after Floch refers once again to the New Eldian Empire.

Hange “You mean the nation of Eldia. And this victory of ours has given every army in the world the most pressing reason possible to combine their forces to attack our tiny little island. Does that not endanger our right to live?”

Flochad “It does if we can’t shake the earth. We never could have survived without power in the first place. Not on this tiny island.”

Flochad deserves all his lines to be adapted

yeah that, azumabito's, and the MP's lines which are crucial in order to add more weight to the nuance of the story unfortunately getting cut out. whoever directing the episode looks like an amateur

The way Gabi escaped was probably the most retarded scene I've seen in this show. "The girl that murdered on of our elite scouts in cold blood is held here, let's just allow her room to have items that can be used as weapons, I'm sure it'll be fine. What? She's acting weird in her cell and I'm a trained soldier, so i shouldn't be acting like a complete moron? I'm sure she's not plotting anything.

Yeah, fuck that soldier guarding literal 12 year old KIDS. A brainwashed kid is being held captive for killing ONE soldier due to brainwashing in a cell. Suddenly she exhibits visual signs of discomfort and something seriously wrong with her. How dare he show compassion and act like a decent human to what he sees as a kid in distress. He should have infact abused those kids and shown them the true Eldian Demon he was. /s

The only thing I can blame that guy for doing is not having a reserve or someone overseeing what he was doing when he went to check up on those kids. But I, for the life of me, cannot blame that poor dead bastard for acting compassionate to what he saw as children in distress.

I guess you have a point. I just dislike her too much to even think about it in this way. It's the natural response to help a distressed kid, which makes the scene more believable.

But they don't know it was Gabi who killed Sasha though.

At this point in the story they only know that a girl, a warrior candidate, got onto the airship and then shot and killed Sasha. Nothing shown till now suggests that Gabi's identity has been leaked. Even Niccolo is told that just a girl got in and shot and killed Sasha.

Gabi is mostly wrong and partly right. The Eldians did commit an unspeakable sin against the Marleyans and other civilizations and they should be weary of the horrors that they could inflict on others. But the Eldians should not suffer from that sin with their own bloodshed. Two wrongs never make a right. There are good innocent Eldians in the world just like there are good Marleyans and none of them deserve to live in horror bc of the past actions of their people.
