Shouldn't really complain about stakes in Dragon Ball, but there are none whatsoever.

Don't really have high hopes for the next arc if it focuses on one of the most boring new Super characters (which is saying something) especially since now a whole army of him has just jobbed to Granola, the arc's new character. It just makes Gohan, Piccolo and the others who fought him before look really bad if simple finger beams can kill him.

Oh man, these names in Dragon Ball, but I'm interested in these new characters and how the new arc is going to shape up, that has always been one of the most fun parts.

One Piece episode 914 & 915 & 1027 were a mistake and 957 brought the salvation - FMmatron

It shouldn’t surprise me that there’s no stakes in dragon ball, but I’d thought they’d at least killed off Merus... that panel of Beerus getting his eyes pulled by Xeno’s hilarious lmaoo. Can’t say I’m really looking forward to the next arc. Never really cared for this guy.

I think that Granola will just serve as a punching bag for the ones that are weaker than Goku and Vegeta, if that happens to change then I’m wrong. Really wholesome chapter after the tense Moro arc and immediately after that, we get a new villain with some aftermath. Can’t wait to see how Toyotaru finna do this arc.

I hope Merus isn't sidelined. He would be a nice addition to the main cast.

Poor Beerus and Shin. What a cruel punishment!
Man, listen to them tear into me. Good thing I'm used to it.

Hate to just provide an echo chamber but yeah, I'm pretty disappointed by Merus surviving the whole ordeal. One of my favourite things about the Moro arc was his arc and sacrifice, finally we had a character whose death actually had narrative weight to it. 90% of the time everyone in Dragon Ball ends up fine, and I like that about the series, but 16's death actually sticking is one of the things that makes the the Cell arc feel so special and it was nice to get something similar happening again. And the whole story arc spent a long time setting up his sacrifice, much more than 16's was, so the expectation that it'd actually follow through was higher, as well as the importance that it did but nope, just throw on a BS happy ending for Merus at the end there. I'm guessing he'll have to be important in the upcoming arcs, because otherwise they might've well just kept him dead because at least that his role would have meaning.

There's basically zero consequence here, the punishment is just slapstick comedy with Beerus and Shin and look, I know Dragon Ball has always had a comedic focus, and parodical nature to it, and them galloping for Zeno's is amusing but when you build up dramatic stakes, seemingly follow up on them, and then at the end decide those stakes didn't matter, the joke is on the audience, the punchline is that we took them seriously when they wanted us too, and that should never be the case. Most of the other issues people have had with the Moro arc I've defended, but this seriously sours my whole opinion on the arc. It's still probably my favourite, but that 7/10 score I have for the series may have just slipped to a 6/10. I have to think it over but this really sucks.

As for the new arc, I like that it seems inherently more sci-fi focused, even though I never seen it, I get an Outlaw Star vibe from Granolah, his design is cool. And despite my rant, at the very least I'm hopeful that the bodyguard thing means Beerus/Whis will be MIA for this arc. They are actually two of my favourite characters, but without them there's a higher chance of dramatic tension at least.

Oh, we're going straight into the next arc?

I liked the Moro arc well enough, but I was really really hoping for a time skip. I would really like it if we could stop doing tweener arcs, and have some actual post-Dragon Ball content that isn't GT.

These chapter discussions are kinda depressing. So many "This manga kinda sucks but..." or "Maybe it's just my nostalgia but..." and other stuff like that. It's amazing the kind of hold that Dragon Ball continues to have from how good it was (and when a lot of people were exposed to it for the first time). But man, Super is shit. It's straight up just shit. It's not the worst ever manga ever made but the gap between how enjoyable and innovative it was and what it is now is a chasm that puts the Grand Canyon to shame. It'll make decent enough fodder for a video game but I've finally come to my senses about reading this garbage.

Zamasu's arc was, is and -I predict- is going to be the best Dragon Ball Super's arc.

Not bad for Dragon Ball Super standards, but guess I expected more about Moro's story. Like... Something more deep with the meaning of the "M" and Kaoshin's stuff. It reminded me like a cheap and really short version of Buu's arc from Z.

It's amazing how Toriyama was willing to erase future Trunk's whole timeline and shit on his long struggle to bring peace back to his world but he's reluctant to kill off a new character like Merus who had the first meaningful death of Super and would rather bring him back right away as a neutered fighter.

Some characters are better off dead after they've served their purpose to the story. Merus was an example of such a character. Bringing him back like this just ruins the impact of his "death" and makes the arc seem less important overall. Not to mention it makes Moro less impactful of a villain because Goku and co. didn't have to lose anyone they cared about before defeating him.

I know Dragon Balls always cheapened the idea of death to an extent but now we have GOD's blinking people back to life and Grand Priests who go back on their word of erasing Angels who break their rules. Super is basically just a much worse written version of One Piece in terms of having low stakes and constant fake out deaths.

The arc is a bit of a mixed bag. I liked the idea of an old planet-eating goat wizard. Not a fan of the Big Strong Guy he became later.

Too much training for both Goku and Vegeta. Especially in Vegeta's case where it doesn't really pay off in the long run.

Getting a bit bored of the arcs feeling samey. Villain appears, Goku and Vegeta power-up, villain defeated.
