My anime ratings are based mostly on my personal enjoyment, but in various cases I just don't do that at all, for example:
no rating for yaoi cause simply I'm not gay
same for boku no pico cause I'm not pedo
no rating for psychological shows when I don't understand them
no rating for few minutes OVAs/specials cause in my opinion few minutes is too short to give a rating
no rating for uncompleted shows because they are uncompleted

When I finished something and I still don't have an opinion
If you're a fanboy, please don't waste my time.

Watch more movies, please.

Perhaps, this is hell.

OVA Extras, even if they are full episode length. I usually forget what even happened in them as they are usually just random stuff seperate from the story. Unless they are more then like 3 episodes Ill just give a rating to the actually series only.
Also hentai, I don't watch much but feel like they don't belong on the same rating order as anime.

Because rating some special is rather hard when it last for 30 sec.

Maybe you should try to watch a few more shows and you would learn that, buy hey this is MaL so I doubt that will ever happen.

I don't rate an anime if I've only seen the first episode of it. I only start rating an anime after I've watched the second episode.

I forgot everything about Sword Art Online and Little Witch Academia, so it feels unfair to score them, even though I remember liking LWA

You could always give yaoi a low score if you don't enjoy the yaoi, since you really don't have to be gay to like a yaoi, but you do you

Again for boku no pico, if the show disturbs you, then probably a low score I'd think, it's the show's responsibility to get enjoyment out of you and if they fail with disturbing content it isn't your fault

If you don't understand a psychological I understand holding off a score, but you may want to ask other fans about their interpretations and you could learn more

The OVA/specials rating thing makes perfect sense, unless one is really bad I suppose maybe? not too sure

Uncompleted shows makes perfect sense too

I think it's already become unbalanced once I've added hentai to my list, as such I rarely give them ratings nowadays

When I simply don't know how much I enjoyed a show, or if I even enjoyed it. It can also have to do with if I watched the show a long time ago and simply don't remember what it was about.

I used to not give ratings when I started on MAL since I didn't have an established scoring system. But lately, I've been rating every show I watch.

And after all this time
They don't want to believe us

when it's a single short or just simply not related to a series, so basically if it's total runtime is under an hour or so

I don't rate uncompleted or dropped anime because for uncompleted anime i want to finished it and give it an accurate rating. For the dropped one, well it's too shitty for me that it doesn't deserve a rating.

When it's not on my list - *lol* obvious reason.

When it's dropped - I can't use my full 1-10 scale with these shows. Also, it would be boring to see nothing but '4s' or less on an entire list.

When I haven't seen at least half the episodes - Not confident enough scoring very early on. I just try to enjoy the show firstly, before thinking too much about scores. Generally, by the halfway point, or even sooner, I already know my feelings on an anime. My scores from the halfway point until the end hardly change much anyways.

When it's just a one off special episode, or a short runtime anime - I consider one-off special episodes or OVAs to be more of an extension of the anime, rather than their own story or continuation. They're mostly filler beach/pool episodes anyways, so I just leave them.

The one off episodes that are their own story, like Mars of Destruction for example, I feel don't have the same weight as a typical 12 episode show or movie. I want my scores to be more representative of standard length anime only, like movies and multi-episode TV series. Additionally, I think it makes my list look a little cleaner and less confusing when only the more relevant titles are rated.

Short runtime anime that are less than 10 minutes I don't score either for similar reasons above. These always tend to be filler/time-waster type shows anyways, so the scoring would always be about the same.

Any entry < 10 minutes per episode is not rated as long as the main core entry isn't a short. Exception, if the main core entry tied to the franchise is a short, then all entries of similar length will be rated as long as franchise is 60 minutes or more overall (prequel and sequel individual components can be < 10 minutes per eps and less < 60 minutes total duration individually, but they must sum together > 60 minutes overall to have each individual entry be rated)

If the main core entry is a standard length TV duration, then the specials/ONAs/whatever specific entries that are < 10 minutes per episode, but 60 or more minutes in total duration will not be rated, while the main core gets rated.

Any recaps/summaries of entries with total product duration < 60 minutes are not rated. Usually recap movies would be rated because they exceed this.

(Temporarily, any anime with a progress of 99 episodes watched or less won't get rated while I still haven't completed it. Once 100+ episodes in or I finished upon completion, they are rated)

It's usually because of one or more of these reasons:

1. it's a very short OVA/special.
2. it's a recap movie/special with no discernible new content or changes.
3. i watched it many years ago and can't remember what i thought of it.
4. i'm too conflicted on it and can't settle on an appropriate score.
5. it's a Hentai, and i just don't see the point of rating porn, in general.
6. i knowingly and purposefully watched a notoriously terrible title out of morbid curiosity (eg. Hametsu no Mars).

When I forgot most of the story, so it's usually for anime I watch as a kid. I put it in my list so I remember the titles if I ever wanna go back to it.
