We're holding a 2020 list design contest, and all are invited to participate! Anyone can enter and has a chance to win because of the diverse categories, tutorial videos, and premade layout help. MAL Members will be voting on Member's Favorite as before and I will be judging for other categories; I am looking for two more list designers to help with judging :D New to CSS list design? Don't worry! You can start with our CSS tutorials to style your list layout. Not good at coding? We also provide premade layouts for you to use as a base and focus primarily on the image/color designs, rather than code. How to Enter  Post in this topic before December 18 2020, specifying which list design(s) you would like to enter: a) anime list; b) manga list; c) both list designs. You don't need to have your list design ready when you post! Until December 18 2020, you are free to modify your list design(s), or edit your post changing your registration. I know it can take a long time to make an original design- so you have months to work on list designs for both lists! :D Make sure you read the rules and guidelines below, to ensure your list design qualifies for this contest. Rules and Guidelines 1. Each user can enter 1-2 list designs, using either their anime list, manga list, or both. Classic and modern styles are both allowed. If you enter with both lists, each list must have different designs. 2. You can either code a list layout on your own, or you can use a pre-made list layout (a layout previously made by yourself or someone else) as the base of your design. However, if you're using a premade layout, you must change all images and the color palette used on the layout; otherwise, your design may be disqualified. 3. You cannot use a private layout that someone else has made as your entry or as the base of you entry; i.e. no stealing. 4. You cannot use a layout you created before the contest registration was opened. This contest is for new list designs! You can, however, use an old layout as the base for the new one (see rule 2). Just change the images and colors :D 5. Your list designs must be available for public view by December 18 2020. If your list entry is still set to private on that date, it will be disqualified. To ensure contest integrity, I may disqualify you for bad behavior in the forum towards other users and designers. Categories to Win By entering, you are eligible to win any (or even all) of these categories.  Member's Favorite List · A category where a popular vote will determine all user's favorite list design of the 2020 season. A voting thread will be opened later which all users are encouraged to vote in. Winner to be selected by MAL member's votes :DBest Imagery · The list design with the best choice of images will win this category. Maybe you're not good at coding, but know how to pick good anime images for a layout and display them well? Or you make beautiful graphic designs for your list? Then this is a category you definitely have a shot at! Winner to be selected by judges. Best Table and Category Menu Design · Are you really good at making lovely tables and menus? Then this is a category for you to try and win! Show us your best table and category links design. Winner to be selected by judges. Best Top Bar/Side Bar Design · Top/side bar design is a whole skill in itself! If there are any customized top bars (classic) or side bars (modern), they will be eligible for this category. Winner to be selected by judges. Most Creative Design · What layout is the most creative or brings cool new ideas to the art form? Here is a category for you coding experts to show off your most creative ideas. Winner to be selected by judges. Most User-friendly Design · Many users find advanced designs too laggy or difficult to use, and prefer simpler or minimalist designs. We recognize designs made to be convenient with this essential category! Winner to be selected by judges. New categories! Best Original Design · A special category for the best original design coded from scratch, or based on a design you coded from scratch that hasn't been entered before. If your list is based on one of the premade layouts I've linked in this thread, it won't be eligible. Winner to be selected by judges. Best Theme · If your list follows the theme of a particular anime or manga it's eligible. A theme for a video game is also acceptable. | hai! hai! I enter both lists too (^０^)ノ Anime List Manga List. I learn basic css on net two years ago only for beautifying the list with moe sweet things (⁄ ⁄>⁄ ▽ ⁄<⁄ ⁄). i forget many about coding now and it's like i'll be too lazy for relearning. so maybe will be my fixed design. |

The contest is intended for CSS edits and graphic design on the lists. But if you can edit the HTML somehow and we can see it on your list that would be allowed. With CSS you can do a lot and it was possible to use PHP on lists but its been a few years since I did. Hopefully I will be able to put out something half decent for the contest :) Yeah some people think that it's unoriginal to recreate the look of another webpage on your list, and they also think it shouldn't be allowed in contests, but I disagree with them and think it is actually harder than normal designs to do this since you're writing original CSS to emulate another site perfectly. It is quite difficult and a feat in itself. I think its commendable to capture the look of another webpage on your list D: |

Add this code to the bottom. Change the numbers in the bottom code to set the table to a new color you like for the layout and that will be fine. It controls the colors of the table. The first number is how much red is in it, the second is how much green, and the third how much blue. The last decimal is how see thru the table is (0 is transparent, 1 is opaque, .5 is translucent). This lets you preview different combinations of colors. https://cssgenerator.org/rgba-and-hex-color-generator.html You could also change the font colors to meet rule 2, but that's a bit more difficult and messy. |
Cool! No, you don't need to change the font, you're fine now :D We just need to see a color change and image change on a premade layout. I was saying you could also change the font colors instead of the table colors, and that would count as a color change. But it's way easier and looks a lot better to change the table colors. |
