Is there any anime you want to watch but hold back on for personal reasons. Like not "I work a lot" reasons, but more out of personal struggles. Today I thought of starting Haiku!. It looks fun and is exactly what I am looking for. However, my sister plays Volleyball. And my sister is not someone who I hold dear. I don't have the fantasy "Sisterhood" bond with her. For that reason alone, I just do not want to watch Haiku because I know it'll remind me of her, and it will sting.

Have seen neither ReZero nor SAO yet. I kinda have a hard time starting anything that is surrounded by a lot of hype or hate. Because you can't really escape people making a lot of fuss about it and even if you don't want to it still influences your expectations to a certain degree.

The problem is the longer you hold off on starting such titles the more it accumulates.

And once I actually come around to watching such a title I more often than not find myself disappointed. Because with hyped titles - they can't match their supposed reputation as "the next best thing" and I'm sitting there thinking to myself: "That's it?". And with hated titles I'm disappointed in myself in buying into the hate because more often than not the negative points brought up against it are either just nitpicks or not as important to me as it seems to be to others.

Well and so it's often easier to just watch something different that doesn't come with all this baggage. Further accentuated by the fact that there are so many anime - there is always something different that catches your attention and that you can watch. So you hold off such titles even longer. It's a vicious cycle. ^^

Yes, "Mo Dao Zu Shi"
As a native Chinese speaker and a Chinese (race, not nationality), I'm going to feel very weird when they speak Chinese and using Chinese names.
And "Quan Zhi Gao Shou" too

I don't get it.
It's a Chinese production. They speak chinese (Cantonese maybe? I wouldn't understand the difference if it was mandarin or other regional variety.).
It's on YouTube. You can choose HD quality from the settings.
It even has english subs (I guess they are horrible but I don't understand chinese anyway.) which you can also choose from the settings.

PS
"Race" is a word with negative connotation nowadays, better use "ethnicity".

For a long time i refused to watch "monster"
I did relate with one of the characters in which at a certain point of my life I realized I was the Johan to many people, and when i started the show, the many things i became aware of were incredible to me, i felt as a stranger to myself.
Dont get me wrong, reason isnt edgy or anything related as it may sound lol

Other than that, I don't usually avoid anything. I'm the type of person who starts a show and forces to watch till the end, even if I suffer with each chapter. I just feel that it isn't right to drop a show (ofc there are exceptions, where it's way to boring for me to force myself, or I just don't feel like watching anime that I think is not worth the time)

Not anime but manga. Oyasumi punpun. I've read his/her other works and they are extremely depressing.

(I kinda wrote a book, but tl;dr-- FLCL because it reminds me of a long-lost friend that I don't have the chance to reconnect with)

I only started watching anime about 2 years ago, but since I'm friends with a lot of anime fans I'd hear names floating around even before then. One of whom was a girl I'll call "H". She has always been into nerdy things and had multiple strong interests/hobbies before she got into anime.

For a year or so we were really good friends and hung out almost every day, mostly during summer vacation. We played games together, went on walks around town, etc. and I eventually developed a strong crush on her. One day, I tried calling H but she wouldn't answer. Then I tried to text her-- still no luck. Found out later that day that my parents had declared her a "bad influence" and cut off all contact we had. I was barely a teenager at that time, I'm college-age now. I still haven't found a way to contact her.

The catch is, like 3-4 days before she vanished, H had recommended me an anime called FLCL. I looked it up recently and literally everything about that show reminds me of her. The aesthetics are right up her alley, the intense soundtrack sounds like something she'd listen to... even the character Haruko resembles her a bit. It's uncanny. And even though the show looks really really cool, I just can't bring myself to watch it because of that.

That sucks! So controlling. I don't tell my parents too much about my friends(which are few), or my interests because I am afraid of them judging my friends. I bet you already tried this, but try looking up her name on social media like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.

I’ve held back on watching Gintama, Vinland Saga, Dororo, Violet Evergarden, etc.. because I find it necessary to have a backlog of shows I know I will like whenever I’m in a slump.

I hear a lot of people who feel that way. My solution in my life for when anything is hype is to imagine the worse. Been doing that since age 12. It not the healthiest way of thinking, and I've been dropping the act recently when I think about my excitement for early grad from high school and then going off to my dream college.(Totally gonna nip me in less than a year) I remember when My Hero Academia was hyped up. I don't remember what I was thinking exactly, but I fear a disappointment like Naruto which I despise. But I went into the show with a mindset of "Idk what the hell this is, but something about superpowers", and despite being surrounded by hype I was able to form my own opinion on the show ignoring the hype. It is one of my favorite anime now. I think the best way to avoid too much hype is to stay ignorant about a show, and always set the bar low. But it's definitely not always going to be possible to do that.

Dude, my old friend in like 9th grade when I was just slowly getting into anime legit spoil a major part of the show because I was taking forever to watch it, and was only like 4 episodes in during a span of a month. She made fun of me for not being able to binge show. But joke on her, I didn't know the process of events, so I kept watching. And then that summer I binged like 20+ anime in only a couple months because at the time, I did not have a life. So yes, I could binge anime. SO YES, I CAN BINGE WATCH, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

I've been too long into Anime to have a show like that anymore.

The closest I can say is that I've held off rewatching Legend of the Galactic Heroes for about 4 years because I wanted to follow the translated novel releases to their completion. Probably going to finish the last book this week, though.

I've had a few review requests (Hoshi no Kirby, Dash Kappei, Transformers Micron Legend) that I wanted to finish/ watch if only for the people who requested the reviews. But I wasn't able to find them in their entirety in Japanese with subtitles.

And I absolutely refuse to do another review over an English dub.

God, I loved the Promised Neverland. It's definitely a fucked up show. But no kids are visibly seen eaten in the show. The show is mostly about the kids trying to escape. The eating is implied.

pretty much the same for me, only it's my brother and his basketball <.<
and while talking about sports I can't enjoy anymore, let's add soccer - I would never watch a soccer anime cause it only reminds me of that fanatic baka i dated once -.-

Naruto, cause I already caught a bunch of episodes here and there thx to friends watching it a long time ago and I basically know the story; I am not sure I wouldn't be bored now, I don't wanna try cause rn I m thinking fondly of it and once I am bored that might change hah

Mo Dao Zu Shi - I watched the 50 episodes live action series and it was SO DAMN SAD man, I don't know if I can live thru that again ack

I had never written a review before. At least, I don't think so. I've started to use the review section's stars for story, soundtrack, etc so to help me better rate some shows by rating each section and then averaging it out to get an overall score. I think writing intellectual critiques as you do is really interesting. I had done one or two for art critique. I love seeing a person analyze a show to give reason to why something is good or why a concept is bad in a more refine manner beside "This sucks".

Servamp. I had a bad fall out with my former best friend, and that was one of the anime that she had always hyped up and recommended to me. Can't watch it now because that will remind me of her and make me angry lmao. And if it does turn out to be good, I know that my opinion of it will be tainted because I can't help but cringe at the thought that I like the same thing as her. Which sounds ridiculous written out like this, but still. Can't do it.

For me, I think I can watch Haiku! if I am in a better frame of mind. The other week I was watching the movie Babel on Netflix for my intercultural communication class. It is a very depressing but real movie about serious topics such as prejudice. Then at the end of the credit, Netflix goes and started playing a trailer for "Haiku!". At this point, I was like "WTF NETFLIX?!" since it was honestly a very inappropriate suggestion after that depressing movie. I talk to a friend about it and joked about how Netflix knew I was a weeb and needed cheering up. I bet if I watched it with that friend, I would love it. But recently the relationship between me and my sister been getting harsher, so at the moment it's really hard for me to watch it. But I know that in less than 8 months I will be away from home at University for the first time, far away from her. Then I might be ready to watch it.

Yeah, the reasoning is definitely petty, but tbh, we're all pretty damn petty. On the Fourth of July this year, I was getting so pissed off with the fireworks. I was overstimulated and due to some other bullshit, I was crying ugly tears. I then decided to try to watch Hamilton on Disney Plus since that was my original plan. I was already crying due to the fireworks. When I started the movie, the Disney logo appeared with fireworks going out of it and I got PISSED! I think I made it like three songs in before I stopped watching.
For a more relatable one, when I fell out with my friend when I listen to Set it off, a band she loved, I was annoyed by it a lot and hated it. Now it been later on and I've forgiven her. Now I just don't care too much about Set it Off due to taste differences.

Thank you.
Honestly the "it sucks" response is a very visceral, easy answer. It's almost certain that anyone who says that has specific elements they really disliked. They just haven't reached the point where they can articulate it very well. Which is understandable because it does take practice and effort to make more heavy critiques. Or they're so used to the very simplified "this is either amazing or hot garbage" type of discourse that you commonly get around media.
