Wow, no one commented on the famous Shou Tucker chapter? Hell, Scar was introduced as well. I'll admit that I teared up when I saw Chimera Nina with tears in her eyes, it gets me no matter how many times I see it.

Wow. I had a feeling that Tucker did that to his daughter, but I didn't see the chimera/wife part coming. :3

In the anime it seems a bit sadder to me, since you see all the fun Ed & Al have with Nina then you start to bond with it ;~;

Poor Nina.

I'm surprised Ed and Al didn't take the line "We know what we did was a mistake, and we're not looking to repeat it."
Your mean should be an even bell curve only if you watch every show that comes out. Having a high-slung mean doesn't mean you're rating improperly. It can also mean you're selecting shows well to watch mostly things you enjoy.

Remember seeing this episode in FMA when I was a bit younger ... Not as sad now but it actually was a rather sad chapter.

Oh man, I forgot how sudden this happens, I think the anime paced it better but it still filled me with dread.

...That's it? Color me a little disappointed. The 2003 anime certainly took some liberties to add details and change up the chronology from the source material, but I never realized it was this severe. Ed's already a state alchemist? It made much more sense for him to study for the exam at Tucker's house, not just hang out and use his books.

Not to mention, that slight change in chronology allowed for both Ed and Al and us, the audience, to get to know Nina and Alexander more. Here, it's presented like they played once and are mostly hung up on the situation based on the moral quandaries rather than personal attachment.

Still leaves a bitter taste in my mouth stomaching the symbolic artwork in this chapter. Loved the half-lit panel of Tucker and Ed standing in the rain!

It's exactly that. Different works, different approaches on an identical event. ^^
(I liked the anime variation and yet I thought it was too much focused on the relationship/personal aspect)

Even Alphonse can be threatening (kind of wish they kept his line to Shou Tucker in Brotherhood).

Nina and Alexander is of the most depressing moments in the series, that's for damn sure! :-(

it's not only that shou tucker did this to his own daughter and monologued to ed how he thought it was the right thing, it's how even despite all this his daughter still loves him in chimera form and is crying when scar kills him. absolutely brilliant chapter

Kinda like the 2003 adaptation better, but still a great chapter though

Very powerful chapter! I agree that a bit more screentime for Nina would've been nice but I also think that the FMA anime overdid it with Nina accompanying them everywhere and even splitting this chapter into two different episodes. As often I'd prefer a middle ground here. Brotherhood probably did the best job with this arc.

Good intro for Scar who - although considered one of the bad guys - still earns some sympathy from me.

I never expected to care for a one off character so much in one chapter than this one, I guess you can get an emotional reaction from a single chapter. Astounding!

Wow. I am speechless, I can't believe what happend in this chapter! I didn't expect Tucker will actually do that to Nina and Alexander and that he did that on his wife too...

I don't know if this new guy is good or bad but he is cool!
Sorry for my english xD!

Fuck, just like the anime, this makes me cry.
I didn't expect to cry again after already have experienced it from (three in total with the original FMA included) rewatching the anime of that scene a few days ago.

Knowing what happens since first watching it in 2009.
It hurts even more seeing the moment we first see Nina/Alexander as a Chimera.
Everytime Nina speaks, it breaks my heart. Worse before her death in the manga. In the anime, I sobbed in the beginning as well, but moreso at the moment she speaks to Edward and then Al.

The anime expanded this scene greatly, but the simplicity of the single words from Nina in the manga hits different in a more depressing way over the lines of the English Dub.
Nonetheless, the scene remains great in whatever form.
Rewatching the first anime's version, it's the lesser one, arguably mediocre in comparison, but still a sad scene.

That damn Shou Tucker is a sick piece of shit bastard for turning his wife and daughter into Chimera's.
Easily one of the best saddest scenes in anime. Next to the likes of Clannad After Story which makes me sob the most.
