I came in knowing full well how tragic this was going to be yet it still suckered me into having hope for a different ending... I think if they had chosen a happier route, though, the effect would be as strong as it is. god, this whole thing was so beautifully done. they captured every moment perfectly, I empathized so much with everyone, and the artwork was stunning. brb gonna finish sobbing over fictional characters

Religion. Death penalty. excessive drama. Anyway, there are many factors, all taken to the ninth power. Overstretched. Still, it has an interest. 6/10.

This manga.

First it rides on the religion-hate bandwagon in order to excuse a discriminating mindset, where everyone that shows kindness or acts based on a moral compass is made out to be a hypocrite by default. All of that to garner attention of those who have the same prejudices about religious people.

And then it creates an environment where the cold-hearted scumbag protagonist that went around making other people's lives miserable for money without ever feeling the need to reflect gets his dick ridden by everyone.

Still, it was not a completely horrible story. The cast all had some reasons to their actions, even if those reasons were stupid and just spoken from a one-sided perspective of a story writer whose main goal it was for the readers to feel for the protagonists. Rendering him unable to flesh out characters that would be at least to some extend not always entirely on Yuu's and Jiru's wavelength.

You could even go as far as to call this story very forced and a literary clichee, however, I don't remember having read a manga that follows this clichee(probably only cause I don't read many romances).
It's kind of saddening really, much more so than this manga's story is. The rating on this manga reflects the poverty of the soul of the readers. You lack a moving background story yourself and are a complete cunt irl, so you get drawn into a story where your sorry self is excused for being a cunt and a forced background story is delivered for you to relate to.

This manga was okay. Nowhere near a masterpiece. If this was an anime, this would be an entirely different story. The narrow scope of the anime world does not require much of a work to stand out from the rest as distinguishable. But in terms of manga? Just another of those manga that make you feel better about your miserable existence, when in reality you know that you act like an asshole.

Sorry, but it IS a masterpiece.

Reading this just made me stronger, honestly, I've been dealing with depression for so long now and I've tried to die before, I always wanted to die, but I don't know, finishing this gave me an ounce of hope that maybe I can make the right decisions in the future and live.. I am trying. This was really a masterpiece.

I definitely knew that he wouldn't be released, but I was still hoping. The ending was beautiful though. I loved it & I was sobbing hard. Has a beautiful meaning for someone who thinks of ending their life... there's still a lot to anticipate for in life- and that's what matters really!

Wow this was beyond beautiful for being only 8 chapters long. The emotion and ideas behind this short story was simply amazing!

Was hoping for Yuu's release, but in the end, it created a much more dramatic and interesting ending with this sentence. What a good story.

All complain of death penalty until someone dears to them is killed. He was careless, I am no sad neither I care if he dies, he ended (even if was not intentional) with the lives of 3 people, he deserves death.
I like to post in manga forum when I feel it is worth it, so people will think. "Shit, is her again" or something.

People asked me where I read certain thing but the rules say no telling where did you read so maybe I am too boring for not saying? Or salty because you didn't check my profile that says don't ask because I hate people to ghost me after that. I love learning languages so maybe I did not read the manga in English.

I found this to be so superficial. An average story about forgiveness that gives the reader drive-by ugly events in a desperate attempt to earn sympathy for characters I don't care for. I can't understand how this has such a high rating here.

I had to reread this twice cause I was super unsure. Honestly the first 4 chapters were pretty weak and made Juri / Yuu both randos with unfortunate circumstances that we end up feeling for in the end. It's not perfect but the messages conveyed especially on the front of absolute forgiveness is real and not shown enough in fiction.

this manga exceeded my expectations. i wasn't really expecting much tbh. i loved the storytelling--obvious it is adapted from a korean novel and had a author as the source material writer so it makes sense that it was solid. i like how it was able to tell the story in 8 chapters, which is pretty compacted. no panel felt like it was blank space. beautiful storytelling and content. artwork was mediocre imo, but i feel like the seinen and josei all kind of fall in this bracket; or, alternatively, ive been spoiled with very beautiful shojou art :)

all in all, would recommend because of the great storytelling and interesting philosophical messages. i was pretty skeptical of the whole "she had x, he had y, together they filled each other's missing parts" ya novel template for romantic success concoction, but the interplay between the characters really brought fruition to the story.

wished we had more time with the characters, character development was lacking imo, but the storytelling covered for this, so im okay.

If I am to hear that you pine for me
I shall come back to you again

I was crying but i wasn't sad. It is a tragic ending by all means but the ending felt very optimistic to me. Yuu's death was always set in stone, we knew that from the beginning; but Juri's fate was not. The ending made me shed rivers but it also made me happy at the same time to think that Juri finally found a reason to live. I like to think she'd never feel like killing herself ever again. She'll love again, get married, have kids and live a wonderful life.

This quickly became one my favourite pieces of art, a 10/10 for sure

I loved this last chapter.. the honesty in some of the things Yuu says in his letter, wow.

..I wish the events in this manga weren't dramatic and there was a gradual build-up to everything.. it felt really rushed.

I was kinda hoping that Yuu would have another trial since at least according to his letter he shouldn't even been in death row in first place. He wasn't actually serial killer who killed out of whim, but rather caused two deaths by accident (he didn't notice he pushed the woman and child to railways before it was too late) and one manslaughter due to emotional response of the guy mocking Yuu's brothers death. So actually knowing what happened and circumstances around it, the whole Yuu being in death row started to feel unfair as reader. I was hoping he would get his sentence reduced to jail sentence.

In other hand I knew he was going to die, the dialogue and how things progressed was going to that way so I wasn't really surprised when it happened. It was to be expected, but it just started to feel unfair and seeing him actually wanting to live- I'm not sure if it was better for him to have regained that will only to die.

Death rows and capital punishment are foreign concept to me. Literally. I feel like my country's justice system is almost opposite of Japan's, we have serial killers out of prison around 10 years here and looking for their new victim. We have one serial killer here who has been released twice now and soon after released murderer another girl. If he was in death row corpses he leaves wouldn't keep piling up. In another hand there is people like Yuu who are wrongfully convicted to death row or who regret and wouldn't do it again. Justice just isn't fair.

I don't really think this is romance manga. I know the cover looks like that and there is tag, but I don't think it developed that far. It would have if it went further, but it stopped before there really was chance. I think it's fine cause I think the romance aspects would take away from the story (I agree that the I met you before was cheesy af) of two people who have hard circumstances learning to want to live again, to see worth in life and themselves.

Amazing work, it made me cry a lot. It relates to me and a close friend a lot. Well "friend" is a weird word but she matters a lot to me. I hope I will always be there for her so she never feels down enough to try to kill herself. She was there for me and because of her I can say I know what happiness is.

On a more objective note, yes, the manga is very good but I think it needed a bit more details about the world around them. Still, a masterpiece imo.

Scary how some readers felt he should have been put to death specifically because of the mother and child. He was falsely convicted of murder on their accounts, when what actually transpired was manslaughter. (Do you also think someone who accidentally kills another while driving deserves the death penalty?)

The tragedy of the story doesn’t lie solely with the friendship/romance that couldn’t be fulfilled. It’s also sad because a young man was convicted and executed because his past didn’t afford him the benefit of a doubt with the legal system — and also, possibly, because his self loathing and depression stopped him from fully defending himself/speaking his case during the trial.
