As much as I love the animation and the soundtrack, I find it hard to ignore how little is explained and how much asspulling exists.

It's hard to be excited for Tanjiro and Nezuko when their moves came out of nowhere, there was no foreshadowing as the breathing techniques have been barely explained. There is no proper understanding of how it works. Tanjiro or even Inosuke yell their techniques and that's it. Imagine that when Naruto did his first Razegan, we never saw him training and failing to it. We never saw how hard it was for him to achieve it. That would completely butcher the moment where he finally manages to do it. That's how I feel regarding the moment of this episode. It looks and sounds greats, but it feels hollow.

Although I actually appreciated how fast the pace has been, the reality is that it came at a cost of building consistent rules of the world.

i agree that the explanation of the various breathing techniques and forms are shallow, but i disagree about their fire abilities being asspulls. asspulls (at least the way i see it) is when a writer writes themselves into a corner and they have to come up with some random bullshit to get themselves out of it, but tanjirou/nezuko's relation to fire, as well as their family's lineage, has been hinted at before. it's very very subtle, much to the point where it's completely understandable for people to not notice until its completely explained. the foreshadowing regarding his father and their unique breath technique could've been executed much better and more clearly, but it was definitely the author's intention for it to end up the way it did here. as the story continues, their heritage (tanjirou's forehead mark, his special sun earrings, the family working with coal, and the dance of the sun god) become major plot points.

in regards to the blood demon art, i can see why it's farfetched considering the lack of explanation about how arts are developed in the first place, but seeing as how she's always been special and that strong demons all seem to naturally develop their own techniques, it doesn't feel like an asspull to me.

i would agree that the timing of tanjirou's revelation about his father's dancing/breathing techniques being a disguised martial art form is convenient, but it doesn't enter the realm of an asspull for me.

There were hints of it, but it did seem kinda convenient. I doubt the author will abuse it. Tanjirou did explain its weakness. If not used properly when activated your fucked.

Holy shit, that was one of the best anime episodes i have ever seen; visually, the story, the character development, the music... EVERYTHING!

Season 1 isn't even over yet and i'd genuinely say this is one of my favourite anime ever. Tanjiro is such a badass and Nezuko is so loving and protective of her onii-chan!

I don't wanna discuss semantics, whether it's an asspull or not, my point is that it does not feel like it was earned.

I'm gonna compare it with another popular shounen: DragonBall Z. Imagine if the moment where Gohan goes SSJ2 happened without all the previous moments where his rage showed up: breaking raditz pod, destroying a moutain during piccolo's training, losing his mind after krillin is impaled by frieza, etc...

It would have been shitty. And we are talking about an anime where power levels exist and are ignored on a whim, but it still followed the crumbs of bread that were left behind.

It doesn't feel like it was built upon throughout the episodes. As you said, it is a bit too subtle. You cannot expect someone to remember something that a minor character said 10 episodes ago.

I also wonder if the subtitles are doing a good job at dismissing the disconnect that might exist, given how the show relies on japanese folclore. All the breathing techniques names are a mouthful, for example. Simplying things would have been better in a show that likes to do things in a subtle way.

I still like Tanjiro and Inosuke. Zenitsu not so much, but I just wish the show was more consistent.

I can't talk about Dororo and Vinland, but i absolutely disagree about the other 3, since i've read all 3 mangas.
Kaguya sama adapted just the comic part and the first serious part (hanabi arc), the real shit won't even be seen in an eventual season 2. But the adaptation itself was great.
Promised neverland wasn't that good as adaptation honestly.
Dr.Stone is good but jesus, it has 6 episodes and since the good shit is later on, Kimetsu for now is far better.

So yea, you're wrong.

I don't care what comes afterwards i am saying that kaguya sama and dr stone already delivered more than kimetsu
This and ep 1 were the only really good episodes for kimetsu while for example kaguya sama had atleast 6 amazing episodes...yes different genres but i still find more depth in all kaguya sama characters than i find in any KnY character (the only good character being the badass from episode 1 (forgot his name) and inosuke

I really loved this chapter very much, for my first impression I only expected a common chapter that would give a closer approach to the conclusion of the arc, but wow and more wow, the hype started discreetly, the quality of the animation, the color palette changing artistically since the beginning of the launch of Tanjiro, and mainly the incredible use of the soundtrack and without forgetting the message of value for everyone about the family and its appreciation, this chapter took all my appreciation and for the auction that beautiful ed, I give it a deserved 10/10

It pointless to discuss something with someone already deadset on hating something. They already decided that they don't like it so there no point in talking.

can definitely agree with that. the MC's strength increases in spikes rather than at a consistent pace, and while the plot allows for the spikes to occur in a way that makes sense, it's hard for it to feel natural.

the only thing i can say about the events of this episode at the very least is that the scale of power between the demons and demon slayers, as well as where tanjirou falls on that scale, has not been fully established yet. hopefully, further perspective on exactly how big of a power up tanjirou and nezuko just gained will ease some discomfort.

THIS HAS GOT TO BE THE FIGHT SCENE OF THE SEASON. I CAN ALREADY SEE WHY PEOPLE ARE IN AWE. FORGIVE ME FROM SEEING IT THIS LATE BUT HOLY FUCK.

How they used the different colored fire to indicate which person it's coming from and blending them together into a pretty combination that described their bond as siblings is so awe-inspiring. I never would've thought this fight scene would even give me goose bumps. I'm still in shock while writing this.

even if I say this a million times, I still gotta say this. MAD PROPS TO UFOTABLE FOR MAKING THIS BEAUTIFUL ADAPTATION

Imagine letting people think whatever they want to and not being annoyed by it.
Imagine ignoring this thread instead of coming back here just to say “this is overrated, fight me”.

One of the best episodes ever I have seen in anime, I was totally blown apart by it!!! This is an experience I'll always, always cherish and never forget. Thank you Tanjiro and Nezuko for this amazing experience.
"There's no such thing as a painless lesson, they just don't exist. Sacrifices are necessary. You can't gain anything without losing something first. Although if you can endure that pain and walk away from it, you'll find that you now have a heart strong enough to overcome any obstacle. Yeah... a heart made full-metal."

The entire budget was spent on this scene haha.

This was amazing no other way to put it. I like that we're getting some history to the Kamado family. I make sense now that a few episodes back someone recognized Tamajiro's appearance and earrings. Nezuko finally tapping into her true potential is bananas. Their fire powers combined was simply beautiful.

My only complaint: I'm kinda pissed that Tanjiro has had breathing training before but seemed to completely forget about it during all of his recent training...

Just look at that animation speed, man! Just nailed it.
I haven’t watched this anime but I must say this episode is a perfect example of good animation. Also people are saying the adaptation is top notch, like AoT or Kaguya Sama. That's something u can't say so easily,,so that says the greatness of this episode.

It feels really convenient and plot device - but it's a awesome technique and he only needs learns two more elements, wind and earth, and he can become Avatar Tajiro lol. I jest :D I do look forward to learning more about the new technique and how Tanjiro and Nesuko both use it.

I'm gonna be honest. That last move was clearly an asspull. And it wasn't a very good one overall. Even Fairy Tail does asspulls better and they have one each arc. But I give credit to what the writer wanted to do and to the production behind this episodes. 7/10
