Nothing in 1-1000 or 1001-2000 "deserves to be watched" anyway; it's better to pick stuff based on traits one likes rather than to rely on fandom ratings, in my opinion.
Anyhow...
2001 to 3000:
Allison & Lillia #2150 - set in a fictional analogue of early 20th-century Europe, these teens find themselves adventure, political intrigue, and even sparks of romance.
Black Bullet #2319 - dark urban sci-fi action. intensely emotional at times.
Chaika the Coffin Princess #2164 (Avenging Battle #2576) - dark fantasy adventure, starring two out-of-work saboteurs in a postwar peace who are hired by a person with a mysterious background.
Kiddy Grade #2617 - furutistic space sci-fi with a variety of elements, some philosophical/emotional. a pretty unique story path.
Kowarekake no Orgel #2078 - a touching story about a musician who has lost faith in himself, but encounters something special in his life.
The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya #626/#2670 - the two seasons of Haruhi seem to diverge wildly in their rating, though I'd mix the two together given that the episode order can be taken in multiple ways.
ViVid Strike! #2804 - a spinoff of the Nanoha series, but features the same focus on characterization, humanizing elements, and friendship. Fuuka puts her own spin on it though.
Tales of Zestiria the X - The Age of Chaos #2398 - dramatic, striking, beautifully done prologue episode to ToZX.
The Tower of Druaga - first half #2646, alt ep 1 #2901, second half #2451 - excellent fantasy adventure series that puts its own unique twists on the quest to vanquish the evil Druaga atop his tower. inspired by Sumerian/Babylonian myth, vaguely based on an arcade game, and the story front-loads several comedy episodes but if you can make it past those you're in for a real treat with characters who interact based on their variety of different motives.
3001 and beyond:
Absolute Duo #4984 - magical battle school action show, with harem elements. The characters are entertaining and the music is top-notch.
Atelier Escha & Logy #5996 - a feelgood story compressing the plot of an Atelier game. Could use more episodes, but the presentation is still beautiful.
Beatless #7056 (Final Stage #4198) - a philosophical exploration of the possible roles of artificial intelligence in the future of humanity. (note: do not expect this to be an action show with robot waifus.)
Final Fantasy: the Spirits Within #6267 - I haven't figured out why I like this movie, but I just do. It just feels right.
Aokana: Four Rhythm Across the Blue #4350 - excellent sports series with a focus on character growth. (based on a romance VN, but romance isn't a focus in this adaptation.)
Rinne no Lagrange #3852 - a story about a sleepy beachside town, and a girl who lives there, which become involved in a case of interplanetary politics.
Rocket Girls #3853 - (I'm amazed two things I watched happen to be ranked right next to each other!) a notably "hard sci-fi" story about high school girls going to space. the show was written with technical advising from JAXA, and even a cameo from a real astronaut.
Soukou no Strain #3318 - heavy drama series involving space travel, war, and mystery. possible elements of PTSD, even.
Stratos 4 #4973, Advance #4041, Advance Kanketsu-hen #3627 - this series, with a story that spans multiple parts, has a pleasant balance of slice-of-life, comedy, drama, mystery, and even some action. all of this is accompanied by theme songs by Melocure and a score by Masamichi Amano.
Umi Monogatari #4981 - a character-focused story with magical girl elements, set in the Amami Islands, and set to a gently jazzy score by Ken Muramatsu.
Yosuga no Sora #5896 - this adaptation of a multi-route romance VN preserves the multi-route structure, and presents the romance (including sexual elements) with a very strong focus on atmosphere and the characters' emotions. |
