Wait, is this the same series I've been watching since these last few weeks? It somehow feels different.
Just changed my score from 7 to 8 for this season; this episode really nailed it. I love it!

They managed to pack several materials in one episode without any notable skipped parts. Not to mention lot of the emotions shown on Urie & Mutsuki, Suzuya & Big Madam, Shirazu & Nutcracker, Hina & Kaneki, and Takizawa & Haise. Whoa, that's a lot but I can't get enough of.

Sen Takatsuki is coming next episode?! *scream*
I can't remember that scene from the manga, but if it means I could see her soon, I'll embrace it gratefully! :)
I just realized that all of my favorite characters, beside being stunningly beautiful, also happen to be exceptionally skilled murder machines. \('-')/

I've gotten accostomed saying this is a freaking disgrace every time I watch one of these episodes. Luckily unravel slightly salvaged it but it still can't compare to the Yamori fight. Any news on if Pierrot is gonna stop being a bunch of morons and work on the second season themselves instead of handing it to their backups studio? This crap would've looked bad 10 years ago

Yeah so I couldn't wait for this episode, a mixture of hype and fear of disappointment made me read and finish the re:manga.

A GOOD adaptation corrects issues with the source material, which in this case I would argue is the confusing number of relevant characters, whose appearance may be similar to other characters or indeed they have a new hair colour/look/gender and confusing fight scenes.

Honestly this anime REALLY needed to take its TIME to establish backgrounds and characters and QUALITY ANIMATION to do this manga justice.

Sadly it looks like these are the two things Pierrot has no interest in :/

I honestly believe Tokyo Ghoul was a great anime adaptation, route A despite being an abomination of a story had great animation, this is failing all over the place.

Having read the manga its really disheartening - my last ditch hope is that they pick up the pieces for the future.

Knowing the arc this is covering in the maga IDK how this anime can really redeem itself in 6 more episodes - really may drop this sadly and I was so so hype for the series too :(
A comment earlier said that it had nothing to do with effort or the team working on TG:re. They're having production issues and the staff is overworking, so you cant blame them for the bad animation
Yes you can, they're prioritizing other anime over this and producing a mediocre anime instead of pushing it back or letting it get taken by another studio. They're hoping brand loyalty will sell it. Same thing they did with √A

Hinami surely has turned into a beautiful and strong woman now. <3

Now that we got their backstories, I finally understand the characters. It must be hard for Shirazu to kill Nutcracker after hearing her last words, and Suzuya too regarding his adoptive parent.

So glad to see Eto and the manager in the preview. Seems like they are bringing the old characters into the show one by one.
I watch anime for the fan service plot since I don't really like ecchi but it just so happens that it is included in mostly the good shows I like. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

Am I the only one wondering what Saiko actually did to defeat the Nutcracker? Or Is it some kind of future reveal?

I am also curious about how true the adaptation is so far? Without spoilers if you can please.

The adaptation honestly isn't too terrible so far beyond some skipped scenes and some little moments (Haise touching his chin when talking to Arima, Juuzou calling Big Mama "Father" to name a couple) but it is rushed. They aren't introducing anime-original nonsense like Root A, so its a faithful adaptation in that sense but it is still very rushed. I don't know how they expect to fit the next arc into this season.

Neither. Takizawa as you may remember was a fully human ghoul investigator and is Dr Kanou's latest experiment. Kaneki was made from Rize (Binge Eater) but he made his own identity so he was never called anything in relation to her. I won't spoil who Takizawa's ghoul half came from, but the name is a reference to that. Not a species or sub species. It's like how both Touka and Ayato are rabbits.

So its an experimental creation?

I hate to be one of those guys... but this episode was kind of wack and bad. Damn, I hate to say it.

Look, I never read one page out of the re: manga, but I can tell this just aint working. Everything might be adapted as well as possible, but it just doesn't translate to me. It feels like I'm reading the most boring sparknotes page ever. I don't know how to describe it. It has like no emotion to me. Only very few parts. Like Hina's dialogue in this episode or Juuzou's very brief flash back. I could slightly feel those things in this episode. But everything else? Nope. I didn't feel it.

I feel like Saiko should have had a very intense moment seeing and hearing Haise getting bodied like that. I can tell that she's very close to Haise. It's clear as day after this episode, yet I didn't feel sad for her at all. Urie having that break down. Mutsuki sharing the same feeling, and showing the audience that hey. These two characters are hurting. Yes, you're telling me that they're hurting, but I dont feel any empathy. Not because I'm a dick or anything, but because it's coming off so stale. Dude, they even tried to get something out of nutcracker for us. "I want to be pretty." Okay? This is supposed to be an emotional episode. I'm not here for the fighting. I'm watching the anime for the damn feels. I aint feel nothin!

Kaneki and Haise. That should be intense right? They even put on unravel. I rolled my eyes! Unravel is just pure nostalgia. I can't be tricked by a cheap tactic like that. That's what grown-ups do to their children to trick them to being happy. You put any other music on, and the scene doesn't get anything from the most of us. It isn't as powerful. But you put on unravel, and you expect me to feel anything? Nah. You can't be that lazy. The music didn't even feel like it matched.

This is just not it and I'm honestly a bit disappointed because I know for a fact that the story is actually good even if I haven't read the manga. And I just feel like they're not giving us the story the way it was meant to be told. And it's not like they're incapable of doing it either. I remember the Touka/Haise scene was very touching and moving. Sigh. Whatevs.

but Imma still watch episode 7 tho lol. and 8-12, too.

edit: edited to make post more condensed and coherent. Also some typo corrections. Removed one part that was semi-spoilerish after giving it some thought.

Best ep so far. Unravel was gr8. Nice to see Hinami back. About time Haise accepted Kaneki. Takizawa vs Haise and Kaneki was action packed! Idk how well the anime adapted the manga as im not a manga reader.
I dont mind the art style, atleast it aint as shitty as 1990's anime art. Besides, i dont see much difference between S1 and S3 art style

Probably the worst adapted episode so far excluding episode 1. I feel like the staff knew that and were like "hey, maybe if we toss unravel in there in the last fight scene people will get hyped and overlook everything else"...turns out they were wrong on both counts. People still picked out the flaws, and people actually didn't want to her unravel placed in there randomly like they haven't noticed that the OST has been dogshit so far.

There was no reason for Urie not to openly say that Mutsuki was a woman. As readers and viewers, we knew this way back when she was first attacked by Torso, and then again when she had to dress up in the nightclub. The moment was just meant to show that someone on the squad finally knew the truth.

There was also no need to make Saiko look useful either. It's not her time yet. Dont rewrite her character for no reason.

The Nutcracker stuff was actually done well. Shirazu sensing the Kagune in the wall was actually better explained and elaborated on here than it was in the manga, and they did a good job with the "I wanted to be beautiful" part. Hope they dont fuck up what follows.

And then there was the cringey unravel fight. At least it tried to look cool. Was way overdone and unnecessary, but hey, they tried.

oh, Unravel is more of a cult thing now that played everytime epic things happen :P

well, that was underwhelming, I thought the fight should be more epic and badass than that, feels like the build up is for nothing. you know, the moment you're hyping so much that the nravel plays but the fight ends up with just one thrust. they handle Amon and Jason fight better than this imo...

and is it just me or does Takizawa mask placing is inconsistence? one moment it cover his right face, another it cover his left face.. or is it just camera angle?

still epic episode tho, just fall a bit low on the execution side for me

Yea kind of hard for the fight to be epic when it was pretty much anime original. In the manga Haise really doesn't do much better, and then Arima and some other doves end up stepping in and Aogiri retreats. That looks to still happen in the beginning of next week's episode, it just happened without the filler in the manga.

A lot of points you mentioned are the truth.
As a manga reader, I can tell you that they are trying very hard to get through the content for the sole reason of progressing the storyline, without properly building up the story for the viewers. The lack of emotion, empathy is because they are spending literally a small portion of the episode focused on it(ie. Hina's relationship with Ken, Urie's need for achievement, Haise's internal struggle, Takizawa's envy of Mado..etc)

This is unfortunate, because the source material is actually top notch.

Basically, a victory in favour of the CCG, aside from the white suits and the rabbit the rest of the ghouls are unable to continue.
Hina having to save Kaneki from the Owl so he doesn't 'disappear"
Props to whoever suggested to added unravel, it made that scene that much better.
Looks like Haise accepted Kaneki, which results in them being that much stronger then they already are.

I really want to like the Anime but honestly it's infuriating to watch. The only interesting part is when Juuzou comes on screen, because the entire Quinx crew is a bunch of weak-ass crybabies. So much for a productive discussion if you just jump on the guy who doesn't agree with you. And yes it is. There's nothing to stop them from pushing it back, if they didn't have the resources they shouldn't have tried it in the first place, and they are prioritizing other anime over this one considering that this one went to their backup studio, Pierrot Plus, while the others did not. Please fact check before you start talking about hate speech.

For some reasons, the episode that seems to be liked by most people is the episode I disliked the most.

The Kaneki / Owl fight was super confusing, the unravel song didn't match anything, some important parts of the fight were cut, Hinami's entrance is forgettable.

In my opinion, this was a terrible episode. I did like the first five episode, but this one was just a big mess.

There was a feeling in the first season, that you even find in root A. A kind of frightening and anxious vibe. Right now, I don't feel any of this. This is just insipid.

This, except it applies to the first 5 episode for me as well.

Those complaining about animation need to avoid Black Clover. This is like way better.

Yoooo! finally a good episode.

The fight between Nutcracker and Shirazu had some decent animation i liked it

Sadly though... the fight between kaneki and the owl was underwhelming in terms of directing and animation. Where is the budget going if not in a moment like this? Just compare this to kaneki vs jason when unravel started playing LOL. When i heard unravel playing i was expecting something like that

Gotta say though, hearing unravel got me hyped as fuck.

Much much better episode than the previous weeks in terms of plot and animation. Still a lot of room for improvement though.

oh yesss nostalgia, Unravel played

Animation looks like improved though choopy and reduced frames is still there, and fight scenes oh well *sighed*, But anyway they did a decent job on intrapersonal conflict scenes of Urie and Haise. Urie scene remind me of kaneki's rampage when he's fighting nishio on season 1. And to Haise's persona confrontation with white-haired kaneki and white-haired? kid kaneki, can't wait to see the next arc animated to emphasized that, the arc where the start of real sh*ts about to go down.

Damn those kaneki screams I've missed it xD thanks Hanae

Nostalgia is powerful. Yet unravel is the official theme song of both tg anime and manga. Yes, it is that perfect that they use it in manga commercials, plus Ishida himself asked the band to do the song. I bet that Ling Tosite Sigure read the entire manga and conveyed what they felt.

No Takizawa murderous rape face from chapter 31. I'm very disappointed.

The issue with this season is that no one gives AF about this Haise Sasaki guy. All the time we invested in Season 1 and 2 to get involved with the main character is basically thrown out the window and dangled like a carrot on a stick. If this season was a standalone anime I GUARANTEE you that the score and the view on this anime would be an overwhelming 4/10. The only reason we watch is the hope of a character and plot that we thought was a 7/10 or 8/10 which is why we stay and trudge along through this awful plot. I dont care if it was in the manga, this is a show, what works in a book doesnt work in a show which is why shows aren't ever the same (obviously).

That is the true sum of this show right now whether you agree or not, if you looked at this season as a standalone piece, unrelated/never having seen tokyo ghoul, a majority of you would call it a piece of **** anime.

I haven't read the manga so I have no idea if that's what really happened or not.

Neither did I. Yet whatever happened there without a doubt provides way more consistency than what happened in the animation.

Ah well I think I should start reading the manga to make certain things clear for me. Although I really liked the episode.
