RIP another anime studio!

thanks for Eyeshield 21 and Katekyo Hitman Reborn anime too

i will update this first post if there is a english translation of the news already

EDIT:

news from ANN http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2017-07-07/anime-studio-artland-closes-down/.118521

The corporate credit research and market research company Teikoku Databank reported on Friday that animation studio Artland ceased operations as of June 30, and the company has hired a lawyer to handle its post-operation affairs. The company lists Artland's debt at 298 million yen (about US$2.62 million) as of the end of December 2016.

Well it makes the most sense because from what I got here they haven't made much stuff for years.

Not really THAT sour to be completely honest but it's pretty sad if you ask me.

Oh yeah, noticed the last show they made was Sin: Nanatsu no Taizai which was more so a collab between them and TNK (inb4 someone will blame them for making Sin Nanatsu no Taizai which would be retarded as shit tbh).

Edit: Just checked the update and my god that sounds like very bad tbh. Like really bad.

@Symphyon

ye im not sour nor sad about this but it makes me wonder why there is increasing numbers of anime studio closing down, i hope some anime industry insider can make a explanation of this trend

but i guess not having enough anime staff is one culprit especially with animator shortages going on that can affect this studios not being hired by any production committee

When you talked about animator shortage I remember the one regarding on WIT studio... which is pretty depressing to read (I don't have the source, but it shows one of the main examples of the anime industry's issue).

This is kind of scary in a sense. Which hurts a lot.

Can't really say I am affected by this, because I have yet to watch any of tbeir content. It sucks that there will be one less anime studio now. Does anyone know what will happen to the IPs that the studio possess? Can they be bought?

It would probably be that since I think that's the best option.

A studio who worked on Macross... the studio funded by Ishiguro... That's quite sad.
(it's dumb but I would rather see younger ones disappear)

I probably regret this post by now.

Hmm, well they made Umishou and that's more or less what I'll remember them for since as much as I liked that one I don't have very much experience with their catalog.

Oh well.

it's expected since they haven't really active since reborn ending... when eldlive anounced, i tough it would be them, but they given it to pierrot which already red alert how badly artland doing and even worse when LOGH remade given to IG and even short like shounen ashibe go goma-chan is handed towards no name studio... i've already feel this since mushishi zokushou since it was pretty much their last strw to survive but still doing badly (well, not that bad since it was 6K, but still)...

oh, for people screaming industry is dying, no, old model of industries does dying, and anime producer that still rely on them is just waiting their time to dies... the market it self only keep growing... (as showing anime revenue report only keep increasing, but BD sales just keep decliningP

Yeah they made some of the best shows but I'm sure the royalties ran out long ago. You're only as good as your last project... which in this case wasn't good at all.

IPs of anime are owned by production committees and its rare for anime studios to be part of a production committee, the only anime studio that have their own IP i can think of at the moment is Toei animation and those original anime funded partially by anime studios

I guess elitist pandering really don't sell well in Japan.

But it's important to remember that a movie review is subjective;it only gives you one person's opinion.

It doesn't matter if you like LoGH,Monster etc.If you are a jobless or college/school dropout living in your mom basement, you are still an unintelligent loser. Taste in anime does not make you a better person. If elitist don't exist, casual pleb and shit taste also don't exist.

You're both right and wrong. It's not common for studios to lead production committees, no, but it definitely does happen from time to time, more often than you might think. Toei, Kyoani, Sunrise, Pierrot, Production IG, and TMS Entertainment can apparently do so fairly often, and others on rare occasions (source).

Also, the Answerman claim that the committee order is random is a myth. They are listed in order of investment, so the company at the top is leading the committee and holds the most power. Kvin addressed that in the comments below the source article I linked.

Gonzo is not next. They ran into financial problems before but was saved by Netflix. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gonzo_(company)

Gainax keeps getting sued by Hideaki Anno because Anno wants to milk the Evangelion franchise with those terrible rebuild films over at Khara.

That's right, whenever you see them listed in the credits, they are listed in order of amount invested, top to bottom.

I agree that such a resource would be immensely useful. Kvin compiled a spreadsheet of production committee makeups for every anime that airs this year in the same article, and it's still being updated afaik. Check it out.
